I was finally able to sit down and upload all of our pictures from Alaska, so here is my post about the trip. Let me warn you that there are a ridiculous amount of pictures in this post...and these are only half of them!! And let me preface these pictures by saying that capturing pictures of Alaska does not even begin to show the beauty of the state. The views are absolutely amazing...you truly cannot explain it to a person unless they've been there!
We started our trip off early one Friday morning. My alarm went off at 3AM and we had gone through security by 5! We had some excited travelers:
Once we got to Alaska (after a llllloooong day of flying), Roy's parents picked us up and we then flew to Port Alsworth...
| RoyBoy LOVED doing this. He couldn't believe that he was able to sit in the co-pilot seat. Grumps even let him "steer" the plane and he made the plane move back and forth! |
| Nana and the girls looking down on Alaska! Caroline loved seeing the bear and moose trails in the tundra. |
>| Our first day in Alaska, we hiked about 5 miles to Tenalian Falls with Roy's brother, Will and his family. It was fun and SO beautiful! | >
| We left Charlotte home with Nana, so she missed out on the family shot. Here we are at the Falls. It was a nice, cool day! Funny that it was near 100 degrees back home! |
| There's a story behind this picture! Funny:) |
| Grumps had his 60th birthday later that night. It was nice to be able to share that with him! |
| I'm pretty sure the cake included spit from Roy Austin and Quinn:) |
| One day Grumps took a plane load to see the bears at Brooks Falls. There wasn't enough room for everyone so Charlotte, Jane and I stayed back. Luckily, I had already been there before:) |
| Last time we went, Caroline was 2 and RoyBoy was in my belly:) |
| The kids loved seeing the bears. When Roy Austin came back he told me he saw blood! Apparently one of the bears ripped into a salmon and he saw the red insides. |
| Watch out for the bear in the grass! As you walk the trail you never know if you'll run into one! |
| The weather was so beautiful the entire trip. The days ranged in the 50's. One day the kids decided to get their swimsuits on and go swimming in the freezing lake! RoyBoy is doing a back float here! |
| We did LOTS of fishing while we were there. The kids loved it and wanted to do it over and over again, and we caught lots of fish! |
| You can't tell, but this beach had one of the prettiest views I've ever seen in AK. There was nobody there but us and huge, monstrous, snowcapped mountains surrounded us all over. It was breathtaking! |
| I love to fish but I do not touch them or take them off the hook:) |
| Roy used to be a fishing guide in AK during his summers in college so he can filet a fish. I love watching him do it and so did the kids. Here he is fileting our trout we caught because we all wanted to try it for dinner. He pulled out these two egg sacs and they kids were sad that we killed a mommy fish:) She was pretty tasty, too! |
| We ate lots of meals with cousins.... |
| ...spent some quality time with our Aunt Kendra (who gave cookies to a certain 21 month old very liberally!!)... |
| ...and went four wheeling a few times! |
| We proudly wore our Carhaarts--a must have in Alaska! |
| I think it's safe to say that we were worn out by the time we were about to land in Charlotte, NC! All three children slept the entire time, both flights home, which made for happy parents:) And I have to say that I'm loving this jet lag. For the first time in YEARS, I've been able to sleep in all week (and I'm talking 10:00 some days and even 12:00 once... and I don't feel one bit lazy because soon enough the 5:00 alarm will be going off!). |

Ah man! I want to go to Alaska! Sounds like the best vacation during the hot summer. Loved all your pictures! Especially the one of Roy and Roy Austin walking through the woods with the big trees. Framer!
Wow! Looks like you all had an awesome time! I can't wait to hear all about it. You all are so blessed to be able to take your family there to make such neat memories!
What a great blog post. Your pictures are wonderful.....I want to see all of them. I especially loved that one of little Charlotte with her big blue eyes and blonde pony tails! She's such a sweetheart! I know you all had a real memory making time up there, and I'm so glad you have the opportunity to do things like that with the children. They'll never forget their good times with their grandparents in Alaska. All good things must come to an end, though. School stars soon. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Love the pictures! Charlotte has grown up so much...love those big blue eyes! :)
All the pictures were great and CLEAR! I loved the one in the airplane with all the children and the Carharts one with Franklin was nice too! Christmas card???? And the fresh fish must have tasted yummy! I'm so glad that you get to go up there so often! You are making great memories together Graham family!
Love your AK post - wonderful pictures!! The family shot is so good - but I know Charlotte was not in that one - otherwise would be the perfect Christmas photo! What a perfect time to be there to escape the heat here in Charlotte this summer. I know Roy was looking forward to that time with you all! He said the day before he left that he couldn't believe he was going on vacation!
