I gave him a little lesson on the Kennedy Family:
Just a few steps from JFK/Jackie's graves is Bobby Kennedy's grave and then a few steps from that we noticed a new grave. We walked on over and realized it was Teddy's grave. We didn't realize he was buried there. Can someone tell me why the Kennedys are buried in Arlington National Cemetery? JFK and Jackie I can understand, but Bobby and Teddy?
Roy was very happy to get to see Robert E. Lee's house, which sits at the top of the hill at Arlington. Here we are at the top with a beautiful view of Washington, DC:
Virginia was supposed to get hammered with snow that night so we headed on back to Lynchburg after a nice walk and lunch in Old Town Alexandria. Roy surprised me and made a stop for the night in Charlottesville at one of our favorite places--The Boars Head Inn. This is where we spent our first two nights of marriage. He even got the same room for us! The next morning we enjoyed breakfast while watching the snow fall down. It was gorgeous!
Caroline and Roy Austin also had so much fun playing in the snow:

My family and Roy's parents have had snow up to their ears lately. What I would give for just one good snow to hit Charlotte! Just one!

Very interesting about Arlington - I had no idea of the connection to Robert E. Lee. I looked up about Bobby & Ted Kennedy. It turns out if you've had military service (which they both did) & held an elected government office, you're eligible to be buried at Arlington.
Great post Donna! You look like Jackie with your darling coat and shades. A few things:
props to Roy for getting you the same room - how romantic!
RA looks so much like Caroline in the 2nd to last picture. All you can see is his little face, and I thought it was her!
I love snow on trees, especially pine trees. The one behind you in the picture brings a whole new meaning to the lyric..."a sturdy pine that doesn't mind the snow". Good GRACIOUS, that thing is weighed down!
Tiger Dave! Way to google! I never knew that so now it makes perfect sense:)
Angela, you are so funny. A sturdy pine who doesn't mind the snow? I'm LOL.
Ok, I seriously LOVE Washington DC! I'm not lying, I cannot wait until these kids get old enough so we can take them there. Such a great town and so much history...love it!
That Roy, what a sweet man to remember the exact room you stayed in. I tell you what, maybe you should keep him around for a few more years???
And WOW, Angela is right...Roy does look like Caroline in that picture. I never realized that until now...strange. Everything is so beautiful up there with all the snow. Gorgeous.
I know, just one good snow...pleeeeaaase...just one good one for NC and SC!!!
I loooove Washington DC! and how sweet to go to your honeymoon paradise. Greg took me to a holiday Inn next to the Airport. We had a 4 am flight the next morn. so I hope he never takes me back there again. LOL!
Love your White coat..so fashionable, I might say.
Fun! You looked adorable (as usual) on your trip!
Roy!!!! How very romantic...the same room! <3
What fun for the cousins to get a chance to hang out together!
I am with you on the snow thing, I know all the "Burgers" are plum sick of it...but pleeeeease can we have some for a bit??
I loved seeing the pics of your trip to DC although I was hoping to see pics of our Pres and Hillary! I guess I don't blame you for not wanting to get their pictures. I probably wouldn't have either.
TIger Dave, thanks for setting us straight about the history of Arlington cemetery. I'm actually shocked that Donna didn't know that. Good to know though. It was fun having you here for a few days! Wish you lived here. Wahhhhh
Oh, and I'm laughing so hard at Angela! I would never have thought of that song when I saw that tree but she's right. All makes sense. hahha
Oh dear....there you go about Jackie again!!!! After all the news about the Kennedy's private lives none of them should have been buried there! Glad you two had a fun time but glad I missed out on the Prayer Breakfast~~~Cute pictures of the kids! Where did you get all the snow clothes? It makes playing in the snow lots more fun! Come on up here tomorrow. We are suppose to get some more!
Looks like y'all had so much fun! Thanks Tiger Dave for the explanation - who would have thought?
Very sweet about Roy reserving the same room. Can I just say that I have no recollection of our wedding night room number? How sad is that? On the flip side, David could take me there and tell me any room was "our room" and I'd believe him!
Glad you are back safe and sound!!
And, not to change the subject, but David was telling be about a Senator who died after complications from having his gallbladder removed. The news had a medical correspondant explaining how the third day post-op is very important. We were reminded of Roy and how God had His hand on Roy. Google that story!!
Jane--my niece gave the snowsuit to Caroline. It's a nice one and she LOVES it. She didn't want to take it off and you can tell she feels really cool in it:)
Nancy, that room number is a special number:) We have actually been back to room 219 three times since our first 2 nights. When we were in DC we saw a restaurant called Two Nineteen and we laughed so hard and checked out the menu but it didn't look good.
I'll have to go google that story about the man and the gallbladder. Roy got the all clear from the doctor a week ago that he can resume a normal life so that is all behind us...cancer scare and all!!!
Okay, just gonna ask...who is Tiger Dave? When I first saw the name I thought "Tiger Woods". :)
