Caroline honestly has a love for music. I sincerely regret giving up on piano and I wish I would have kept going. Because of this regret....don't laugh....but I played classical music ALL THE TIME to Caroline when she was in my belly. Each night of my pregnancy, I would sit down with my headphones and play 2 specific pieces for her with the headphone resting on my belly, volume up to the highest level. Roy would just laugh at me. But believe it or not, the first week of her life, she was screaming and crying in the car one day and I played one of the pieces and she stopped instantly. So, throughout her toddlerhood, she's loved music, especially Grammy's Andre Rieu. Fingers crossed that she enjoys piano. I am going to try my hardest to cultivate the interest in her but I promise I am not going to be a "pageant mom" who forces her into a hobby/talent that she does not enjoy. I just think learning an instrument is a lifelong talent that a person will always be able to carry with them. Plus, what a good refresher course for me! Maybe I'll finally learn my theory this time?!
Roy was so sweet to meet us at the lesson and then he took us out for a congratulatory lunch at Qdoba to celebrate our little pianist:)

How cute!! You know kids who are involved with music are usually much better readers than those who aren't . . . and better at math too! :)
Go Carol!!!! I want to come to her first recital! That is very exciting.
Don't laugh but at first glance, I thought she had a martini glass appliqued on her shirt. I did and double take and knew I had to be wrong. That's a cute dress! Did Jessica make it?
Look at Caroline's expression in the last pic...that is such a Donna face! I love how she's starting to ham it up for the pics. Like mommy, like daughter. :)
Chrystal--any of my children will need all the help they can get in the math dept, so YIPPEE!!! I'm terrible w/ Math!
HPS--funny about the martini glass. Can you imagine putting that on a toddler outfit?! That dress is a hand-me-down from none other than Nancy Drummond herself:) I love ND hand-me-downs:)
I'm so glad everything went well with the first lesson. Sorry you had such a time getting there. I hope things get better as the weeks go by.
I think it's funny that you are giving Caroline Suzuki lessons when you were so against doing that as a young girl. I remember the struggles you had with practicing, theory, etc. But you did have a talent for that, Donna, and I really believe you could have gone very far if you would have put your mind to it back then. Who knows, maybe you WILL learn from Caroline's lessons!!! I love the pictures of her, especially that one with "the look".
I agree with HPS. Caroline is turning into a little Donna more and more. I love that she is starting Suzuki and I'm sure it brings back TONS of memories for you. Susan B. Fralin would be so proud. You should write her a little and send her a pic of Caroline and her piano recital. She would like that. I can't wait to hear her first recital too and watch her bow. You're a good mommy Donna!
Thats great! I wish my parents made me do something. They always let me quit. I love to hear the paino and wished I could play!
Good for you and sweet Caroline. Will she have all those piano recitals too?
BTW, at least your personal piano story is not as bad as mine!
Way to go, Caroline! We may be able to coordinate a recital at a blogunion one day! I hope she will continue to enjoy it.
I hate to burst your bubble, but I took piano for 9 years and I'm HORRIBLE at math! :)
Sweet Caroline, I bet she looks adorable sitting at the piano! I've never heard of Suzuki...except for the little Suzuki convertible jeep that people drove years ago. I'm laughing at the pageant mom thing...are we going to see you on Toddlers and Tiaras?
I too hated taking piano lessons, but I will honestly say I don't miss it. Is that strange because I have NO OTHER talents to speak of.
I took piano for years but have never heard of the Suzuki method. What is it and what makes it different from just regular piano lessons?
I think I started at 5 and gave it up in jr. high.
Ohhhh..,piano lessons. Bad memories. My teacher actually told my mom to let me quit. It was that bad. I know, shocker!
Caroline looks adorable and I am sure she will love it. she looks so cute holding her Suzuli book.
I want to know what Denise's personal story it??? And I also want some yummy Qudoba! No fair, you have all the good rest. in Charlotte.
Kristi- the Suzuki method teaches children (at young ages---3,4) to learn to play by ear.
Nikki, let's just say that Denise's experience with piano is the same as yours:) She played a mean "When the Saints Go Marching In" though!!!
