Buddies

Caroline and Roy Austin are really becoming buddies lately. It's so cute to hear her talk to her "Buddy". Sometimes I stand by the door just to listen to their conversations. This past week, Caroline realized that RoyBoy could sit still long enough to eat oatmeal next to her in the mornings. The first day she sat him on a stool next to her as they watched her morning show:

I was stunned that he actually sat and watched some TV because he honestly has never watched TV more than 5 seconds. That afternoon, I found oatmeal smeared all over one of our couches, the coffee table and other places. Do you realize how hard it is to clean up dried oatmeal? Let me digress a second and say that Caroline is not a perfect child by any means, but she came very close to it as a baby/toddler. I told Roy the other day that I NEVER had even 1/4 of the situations with her that I have with Roy Austin. I find myself saying "Roy Austin! NO SIR!!" about 60 times a day. So anyway, the next day for breakfast, he ate his oatmeal in his highchair:

Caroline really is sweet to him. She's recently started calling him, "son". We went to the park to play the other day after naps, and when he was hesitant to go down a big slide, I saw her bend down to his level and say "It's okay. When sister was a little girl, she was scared, too". Moments like these make me smile:)

Here is Caroline's recent art work on my pantry door. Roy and me:

It's funny how writing letters just clicks. She asked me how to spell Dad and Mom. I told her the letters and she did it on her own! Is she a genius or what?! Now we need to work on spelling her name!

This past weekend I bought Caroline a slip-n-slide and she was in heaven! As I was opening it up, she was jumping up and down saying "I'm so happy! I'm so happy!". The picture on the box showed this huge, wide sliding mat. They need to add a sticker that says: Looks can be deceiving:
Forget the slip-n-slide. Roy Austin only wanted to play with the dirt in the flower pot:

On Sunday we went to AnnaPreston's 2nd birthday party. Hannah did a great job with that party! The party favors were these cute little bumble bee hats and Caroline will not take it off! She wore it all day Sunday, to bed, even to the doctor's office today for her check-up, and she took her nap in it, too. Here is one of her favorite things to do outside: push RoyBoy around the driveway:Here is one of Roy Austin's favorite things to do outside: Run away from Mommy. He knows he is not allowed to go past a certain part of our front yard and let's just say that he loves to push my buttons:

See ya.

That is too sweet how they are becoming buddies. :O) Love Caroline's story of telling RA how she was scared when she was little. You should put some of these in the laugh jar. And when I was little I loved the slip-n-slides! What fun!!

Ah, this was a good post. It's fun to hear stories about C and R. I love the pics of them eating their breakfast together and I'm SHOCKED TOO that RA is sitting there watching TV. He's growing up!

That really is a skinny slip-n-slide. I always wanted those as a kid and the only time I ever did one was at Treasure Island with a huge mat that all the kids slid on. That's really fun to do as kids!

That's such a nice post. After seeing those pictures and hearing your stories about the children, I miss them soooo much. Seems like it's been weeks since we've seen them. We'll have to drive down there soon for a short visit so we can see them....and you, too....but we saw both you and Roy just last week. Anyway, the post made me miss them an awful lot.

What a sweet post! Stories like this make me so excited for Georgia Anne to have a little brother. Your children are so adorable.

OK. Slip n slides. Those commercials and the box make it look so clean and smooth and sleamless. I loved them, too, when I was little but they never show the part about how grass (and sometimes that red Carolina clay) gets on them and they wrinkle all up. That was my slip n slide debbie downer as a child...but maybe it was b/c we improvised and used the sprinkler hose and unrolled a thing of black garbage bags down the hill. L.O.L!

Those are the sweetest pictures. I'm glad Caroline liked her bee hat and that Pooh even got to go out for a walk. She's a good big sissy, that Carol...and Buddy is a HOOT! Love them both!

everytime I read about Roy Austin I just laugh because he sounds just like Brody. They sound so much alike! Its scary!
He is going to speech therapy and the therapist told us to get him a weighted vest to calm him down. and she was totally serious. They actually sell them. Greg and I have been laughing about it ever since she said it and now we are like, "Now, where can we buy the wieghted vest?" Sounds like a good post huh?? ha ha

Rose, where do I buy these weighted vests? I'm serious!! Tell me and I'm there!

First of all...a weighted vest??? That is hilarious! I have never heard of that. Funny, funny.

Such a cute post. I love that she calls him son and I agree - she's a genius with her artwork because that picture looks JUST LIKE YOU! Unbelievable!

Didn't you buy some water toy last year at Big Lots or am I making this up? For some reason I was thinking it was a slip-n-slide. Anyway, I would be scared to death to jump on one of those now. LOL at Hannah's slip-n-slide when she was little...we must have bought ours at the same place! :)

Isn't the resemblance uncanny, Jennifer? I was shocked:)

Dolly and I BEGGED my mom for a slip-n-slide when we were little but we didn't get one. So we made our own out of trashbags and dish detergent. It didn't work though.

Yes, I bought a big pirate ship at BigLots last year but I made it an inside/rainy day toy only. I didn't want it to get ruined. Good memory, Jenny Girl!

Precious! I love it when my kids enjoy each other! I remember when Lindsay would cry and cry in her car seat all the way down from camp and Anna (who was maybe 2, so Lindsay was 3) would say "it's okay honey, just look for the cows outside" while reaching over to hold her hand. Melt.my.heart.

Slip and slides are such a HO-AX!! We have one too- ruins the grass, the water doesn't spray on the mat properly/and you barely even "slip".

Weighted Vests are real... http://www.weightedvest.com/
Not for your average child, though. I don't think RA qualifies :)
I love your RA/Caroline stories. Looking forward to those days at our house.
And, I'm impressed by C's letter skills. Definitely head of the class!

Really...don't buy weighted vests unless there is some low muscle tone!! I'm serious. It could really hurt a child to wear these to just keep them still!

Love the pictures...you too.

I didn't mean to start something with the weighted vest. Brody is going through some therapy. Mostly speech but he has some sensory problems and sees an OT. Especially since he was not held much when he was a baby and has a hard time with new routines and new things etc. Its complicated, but he does wear a weighted vest when he is at speech therapy and it does help him to concentrate and relax and feel safe. She suggested us to buy one to use at home to calm him when we go outside and do new things. Its really not heavy at all. It is lightly weighted and it just makes him feel snug. We probably will buy him one. We just thought it was funny. I was just kidding when I suggested a vest for RA. sorry about that. :)

oh and I hope you know I was not suggesting that anything is wrong with RA. He is just a boy!
Brody has emotional issues due to the adoption and, well... who knows what. Its mostly because he was not exposed to things that most children are at appropriate ages. he couldn;t even crawl when we got him at 11 months but crawled within a day after we got him. I don't think he ever touched the ground until we got him. anyway I am rambling....sorry! Rose

Rose! Don't you dare apologize! I didn't get offended in the least bit. I was seriously thinking about getting one for RA and I may keep the thought in mind. I had no idea that there was such a thing:) Seriously, no offense taken and no apology needed!!!
