To: Denise and Baby Logan From: Auntie Donna

It's shower time! For those of you who don't understand let me fill you in. A few weeks ago Nikki announced her idea of throwing Denise a blog shower. It is such a cute idea. Today is the "shower" and everyone who's playing has to post their present on their blog. Denise is going to "open" the gifts today when she reads all of the posts of those participating. So, here it goes....

Hmmmm. What to get for the baby of five children. Baby Logan, you and I will no doubt have a special bond. I will always be able to understand the hardships and joys you'll experience due to our similar birth order.

Maybe I should go ahead and get a baby book started for you, so you don't discover in your pre-teens that you don't have the nice Creative Memories baby book that your other siblings do. This way you can look back and remember all the important details of your first year the way Maddie and Danny can.

If you want, I can go ahead and buy you a rabbit fur coat so you don't get jipped when the other siblings get one and you have to suffer with just a plain 'ol Sunday church coat. Who cares if you are a boy. You'll still feel jipped.

Hmmmm...what about a "blame free" card. The youngest of the family tends to get blamed for just about everything in their childhood years. I don't know if it's just natural for older siblings to point fingers or if it's just that the innocent, youngest one seems like an easy, helpless target. Whatever the reason, get used to it. Oh, yeah, and you'll also be called a tattle-tail more times than you can count. Get used to that, too.

And trust me...from one youngest to another... you'll probably hear this command from your older siblings a lot (even when you are all adults) : "Go ask Daddy if______________". I still hear this from one particular auntie of yours. For some reason, youngest children are always the middleman or sibling spokeperson. A lot of people say that we'd make great salespersons.

And get used to being called the "baby of the family". Even when you're 28, you can bet that at least one of your siblings will still call you that. Actually, in my family, it's your mother that calls me her "baby sister, Donna". Me no baby. Me big girl. Just tell them politely that the PC term is "youngest".

Now you may feel like you're the forgotten one for a couple of years. You'll get all of the hand-me-downs (even from your cousins), you will take all of your naps in the 'burban, you'll have all of your Halloween candy stolen and left with only the nasty Mary Janes or Bit 'O Honeys. But you just wait until all of those other Logans are off to college and it is just you, Mommy and Daddy at home. This is when the good times start to roll. This is when being the youngest has it's perks and boy does it ever have it's perks!!! Jackpot! Being the youngest is awesome!!! (Oh, by the way, Mommy HATES that word.)

Well, I didn't mean to turn this post into an advice column! I do have many more tidbits of info to give you, but I will also give you something that your cousins, Caroline and Roy Austin, have absolutely loved. Once you make your sex known to your parents, I will send it to you. I want you to have the perfect color and I want to personalize it. This blankie is so soft and it washes up like new each time. I hope you will love it as much as your cousins love theirs:

(Don't worry, everyone. This is a picture off of Pottery Barn Kids' website! Not the real deal!!)

Baby Logan, I can't wait to meet you and hold you this Christmas! You are already loved so much by so many people. I hope you can sense it!

What a cute idea! I hadn't read the post about this before seeing your update today. Dolly mentioned it, but I didn't know the shower was today!! I'm so behind. Anyway, Denise, if you are reading this, your gift is going out this week!
And, Donna, I loved this sweet post and how you and #5 can relate. I had to laugh at the fur coat pic - hilarious!

Donna! I feel like Grandma Reber (Rest In Peace Grandma), as her belly would shake up and down when she would laugh. I am shaking up and down from reading your blog! My shoulders are going up and down too.

I don't think I have every laughed so hard at one of your posts! So funny and more than likely true! I cannot wait until Danny reads it. I need to figure out how to print this and frame it for #5's bedroom--well, when it has a bedroom.

So many things to comment on in your post. Where do I begin???? I will no longer call you my Baby Sister. So sorry! I just call you #5.

The fur coat even if the baby is a boy---still laughing at that one.

The baby book--thanks to Shutterfly by children will all have SEVERAL books.

"Go as Daddy if_______" VERY true, VERY funny!

Ahhhh. Thank you for the gift. I really like it. You truly shouldn't have because you have already done so much.

Just for you I will say, "this is an AWESOME post!"

Donna, GREAT POST! I can't believe you've got it up already since you're at the Greenbrier. You amaze me!
This made me laugh this morning and I needed a good laugh. So creative! But I'll have to agree that baby Logan #5 has it made already. The youngest always does!

Love the gift too! I think it's Michael's favorite blanket too thanks to Suzanne! Can't wait to see what else Denise gets.

Oh and PS Denise...I've got the Grandma Reber genes too as my shoulders were going up and down while laughing.

H-I-larious! I couldn't stop laughing! I am the dreaded ONLY child (can you say, boring!?)
But I marries the oldest of 5 and I can relate to your words...except from the other direction "My little brother got away with everything because my parents had used up all the discipline on us and they were tired!"
hahahahahahahahaha!!

Good post Donna! good one! I am laughing so hard at the picture of you in the fur coat? I thought you didnt have one, so where did you get one for the picture?

All your advice from the youngest child is so true and funny. But I dont want to hear your complaints. Try being the middle child :) Come on Dawn, back me up here. It is no cake walk being in the middle! :)

Nice gift too. The blankie looks so warm and cozie.

Good post Donna. Nice to see my coat again. You wear it well. You're right the youngest has it hard but the perks are great too. Actually we Reber girls have nothing to complain about. Our parents treated each one of us fairly and equally and loved each one in our own special way. I know Denise and Danny will do the same with each one of theirs. Congratulations guys!

That post is so good Donna...so good. You are right that the youngest make great sales people...that is what I have done for years and am the "baby" too.

Love your gift idea. How blessed and loved this baby already is!

Hope your trip has been great and hope to see photographs of it upon your return.

Donna, HILARIOUS POST!! Just hilarious! Those are great words of wisdom to Baby Logan #5 and I love the blankie!

Now, Dan the Man does need to read this post and analyze this situation, Denise. Underneath all the laughter, I really feel there is a lot of pain and unresolved issues. I sense the deep hurt and feelings of rejection over being the afterthought, the overlooked child, the one that didn't really matter. (Oh, am I making it worse?) LOL!

How bout someone hosts a fur coat and baby book shower for Donna???

Donna, I must agree with Kristi - I sense some resentment and bitterness about the way you were treated as a child. Krist does have her masters in counseling - maybe you could fly her up to Charlotte and have a few sessions? Just a thought.

Let me just say, that since I'm also the youngest of 5 children, I personally don't mind being called the baby. In fact, at the ripe age of 38 it makes me very happy...you'll get there one day too, Donna. :)

I love that blanket! It just looks so soft and plush. By the way, are you trying to throw us off by showing us the blue blanket so we'll think Denise's baby is a girl because you wouldn't be THAT obvious, right?!?!

Good job baby sister Donna!

Donna, you should have a talk radio show. You can talk about the simplest of things and we're all captivated. You're so FUNNY! I used to believe that sarcasm was a poor substitute for wit, but with you Donna, I believe the two have come together to create the perfect storm. Sarcasm, wit. Perfection. :)

I can't believe Denise's baby is almost here! Yaaay! Can't wait to hear all about him/her and see pic's.
