Birthdays are big in this house. From the time a person wakes up until their head hits the pillow at night, they are celebrated big time! This year, Caroline's 8th birthday fell on the day we were going to be driving home from our Florida vacation. I felt so bad. We made great time heading home, so we decided to go ahead and celebrate!
This year, she wanted an American Girl birthday. When we unpacked the car, she quickly went to put on her new birthday dress Grammy gave her. She asked me to do her hair like Belle. I told her she looked more like Cordelia Drexel Biddle from The Happiest Millionaire.
Okay, this is funny. Because Caroline dressed up, she wanted everyone to dress up in church/party clothes. She told Roy Austin she wanted him to go put a church outfit on and he told her that he didn't want to and he wasn't going to. About 20 minutes later, I was doing her hair and he walked in my bathroom with a huge smile and this get-up on. He started doing his own hair, too! I asked him why he decided to get dressed up and he said, "Liney wanted me to, so I did it because it's her birthday".
They really do love each other.
The "American Girl" cake. Don't look too closely. I haven't mastered fondant placement, yet:)
Make a wish!

She wanted matching pajamas for her and her Caroline doll so badly!
The Birthday Fairy had to deliver balloons the next morning instead of the Birthday morning. I told her that she probably wouldn't want to have balloons in the car all day on the trip home and she agreed:)
So we celebrated our 8 year old as best we could. I felt like it was a rushed day and I really felt badly about it. She seemed happy and loved, though, and that's all that matters! We are so thankful for this girl. She is our the sibling leader, my helper, our ruler follower and she makes sure everyone does what they're supposed to do:) She is a joy....who is growing up so beautifully, but oh so fast:(
