Don't Throw Out Those Cards!

Yesterday, I started the Christmas tear-down. I look forward to having our house back to normal each start of January, but I kind of miss the lights and decorations at the same time. One thing I hate doing each January is taking down the Christmas cards around our back door. I always feel bad throwing them away. Well, yesterday while I was reading my friend, Caroline's, blog she gave me a wonderful idea--keep them and use them as prayer cards! I placed all the cards in a basket and last night during our bedtime routine with the kids, each child picked a card and we prayed for that family! They loved it! It's a good way to share with your family how you know that person/family and maybe some struggles they are going through. (Last night we prayed for the Shobert and Marion families:) So, if you sent us a Christmas card, know that our family will be praying for you and yours throughout 2011! Thanks for this great idea, Caroline!!

Donna, I am so excited that you read my post and liked the idea. The boys are loving it thus far. I allowed Liam to select the card the first night and then Aaron and the child that drew the card allowed the sibling to pray for the family. I plan to do it all year through and recycle the cards when the first cycle is complete. What a joy to pray for families all over the world.

Happy New Year!

We did that growing up. It was always such a neat way to remember people we may only connect with once a year. That's so cool that you're doing it too!

Gooood idea! I will be making a mental note for next year. I just wish I would have seen this 2 days earlier. I had just thrown out all my cards after sitting and wondering for a whole day "there has to be something I can do with these".
