Thanksgiving 2010

Getting a family of 5 out the door on Thanksgiving morning to drive to lunch 2 hours away was harder than I thought. Roy and I are usually never late, but this year? We were 30 minutes late, or in other words---the last ones to arrive for Thanksgiving lunch. So, needless to say, I did not take any pictures during lunch of family, didn't get one picture of Charlotte Girl on her first Thanksgiving Day, and none of RoyBoy in his cute sports coat. I did get this one of him when we got in the car to leave. He managed to sneak a big cup of M&M's from the table and devour them:

This year, I skipped out of the Black Friday shopping at the outlets because my usual partner, my SIL, Kristy, wasn't there. We were in Boone for the rest of the weekend, so we went to get our tree on Friday and it was COLD! We were so rushed to get out the door on Thanksgiving, that I forgot to pack coats for our family! Boone + November= COLD! What was I thinking????? Here is Caroline and RoyBoy in the back of the truck waiting for our tree to get cut down and trying to hide from the wind:

Charlotte didn't know it was cold because she was nice and warm in her little seat. Dolly, she looked so cute in Michael's outfit---just like a little elf!!

We made cookies when we got back to Nana's, and Caroline and RoyBoy helped Jane decorate her tree that night:

On Saturday, I took Caroline and Charlotte to see Tangled. It's a really cute movie (I cried at the end!!!) and it was our first official "Girls Only" time with Charlotte. Here is Caroline with her $4 box of Skittles. (CRAZY!!!) After I took this, she got a scared look on her face and told me that the sign by the door said 'no camera allowed'.

Then on Sunday, we finished decorating our home. We took this tree....

....and turned it to this!

We had fun decorating it and looking at the ornaments from the past. We (or I) have a Christmas tree rule---we can't decorate it until the entire family is together. I remember doing this as a child and I hope to continue it until our kids are out of the house:)

I will say that most of the ornaments are on the very bottom from little hands, and the tree looks a little droopy.

Oh, and check out my bargain I bought last year at Target at the Christmas clearance. This $160 train was mine for $29.99! RoyBoy L-O-V-E-S trains this year and when I showed him this today, his eyes were huge! He is in Heaven--and Roy and I are going crazy breaking up fights over it and putting the train back on the track, over and over and over again.

So the kids are just about to go to bed and Roy and I are exhausted!! The idea of doing things like we just did sounds so sweet and fun, but it is tiring!!! "I have to keep telling myself "your making memories, Donna....you're making memories..."

This is a nice post, and I'm glad you had such a good time in the High Country for Thanksgiving. Love the pictures, but for some reason, I didn't get several of them....did they all go through? How about you other readers....did you get them all? That little Charlotte is really a sweetheart. Got the one of her all snuggled up and sleeping, and I saw little Caroline and Roy in the back of the truck freezing. Good memories...good memories!!

I am glad that you reposted this. The first time some of the pictures didn't show up.

Everything looked so nice in your post--totally a Donna recap of a holiday weekend.

Tiring--yep, that's what lots of kiddos do to you! But you are correct--you are making memories.

Charlotte looks ADORABLE!!!

Oh yes....that's much better. We missed about five the first time. Love the little pics of Charlotte and her antlers, and the one at the end. Thanks for fixing that, and thanks for the pictures of your beautiful family.

Nice recap! I remember when you got that train last year at Target. I bet RA LOVES it this year! Your tree looks great. My hands are all scraped and chapped from putting on our lights but it's so worth it when it's all done. Charlotte looks adorable in her little candy cane stripes. She's such a good baby and always sleeping!
Looks like ya'll had a nice Thanksgiving weekend. See you soon!

Well I want to thank Donna and Roy for getting my tree up.....Donna can do more in 30 minutes than I get done all day!!!! Thanks Roy and Donna for coming for Thanksgiving and thanks for helping me get the tree done! I loved having you all here and it would have been kinda' sad without you since no one else could be home for Thanksgiving...Thanks for your help and for just being here.....

Great recap as always, Donna! Wow! You have been a busy little bee considering you have a newborn. I loved hearing about it all and loved all your pictures. The one where Charlotte has on her antlers is so funny! Good for you to make such a whimsical tree with your kids. That is one of my life's regrets because I always made our tree my showpiece and there was nothing whimsical about it. It was definitely not a "kid tree". Anyway, you are a good mommy, Donna. BTW - You sure dressed cute to go tromp in the woods to hunt a Christmas tree. :)

You ARE a great Mom! I loved this post too! Cute pics of the kids. Little Charlotte is so precious and tiny!
I am working on our decorations today...If Grinch will let me! He had a whole list of things we "had to get done" before he will allow Christmas festivities...I think we have completed it though!
