Laughing Comes Before Crying

When I was a little girl and my sisters and I would get too rowdy and giggly, my Dad would always tell us "Laughing comes before crying, girls!". I used to hate when he said this because he said it a lot and I honestly probably didn't understand what he meant! It's SO true, though, and I am constantly asking my kids "What does Grandaddy say?" A good time usually always ends up with someone getting hurt, upset and crying. This happened yesterday at our house. I was getting lunch ready for the kids and they were jumping on the chair in the family room, laughing and having a good time. They were having too good of a time. I gave them Grandaddy's warning and a few minutes later I heard a huge scream coming from Caroline. I ran in the room and loved on her for a second and then held her back to look at her face and saw this:

Apparently RoyBoy jumped on her face? I think when he landed, his forehead hit her right eye. Poor thing, she was so pitiful and it looked so painful. It was an instant black eye.

Her right eye is still SO puffy and black.

I had to tell her to smile because she looked so sad! But, I think she is actually kind of proud of her shiner:)

Oh my, that is one serious black eye! You know that had to hurt. That 2nd picture is hilarious...it doesn't even look like her for some reason. Poor thing.

Btw, how long has it been since I've been the first to comment?

I am reading this outloud to the girls in the truck, on the way home from Mary Poppins. When I showed them Carolines picture they all went, "Awwww!" Sorry this happened Donna. She looks so cute with her bruiser!

By the way, Dolly told me to tell you we are listening to Mrs. Aldridge's favorite song right now. :)

Yes, we all felt so sorry for Caroline when Denise read the post. I was driving, though, so I couldn't see the pictures. She really does look pitiful. I'm sure she'll get lots of questions before that thing goes away.

Man, I'm just catching up on your blog. Poor little Caroline. She still looks beautiful!

PS. We missed you this weekend but still had a great time. I'm hoping to blog about it before we leave on vacation. We'll see.

I am back in blogland...
It's funny about RoyAustin's head being so hard. Levi has a hard head too and he knew it early on. When he was around 2 he nailed Tim in the head and knew it had to hurt because he instantly started saying "sorry daddy..." And I believe uncle Dan's phrase will make its wsy into this family...it is SO true.

Lindsay was a "biter" when she was little and poor Anna spent lots of time with teeth marks on her cheek! I can't believe how sweet she is to Lindsay after all she has put her through!! Hahahaha
