The Girls Are Back in Town!

Last week when I came home from Virginia, I told Caroline we could take home my childhood Barbies. I had been holding off letting her play with them because she is still in the baby doll stage and the Barbies of today look different from when I was little. But, I figured mine were special to her and they needed to come out of storage. She was SO excited. It really is neat to see my little girl play with toys that were so special to me when I was a little girl. Embarrassing but I played with Barbies until I was eleven! And I was serious about it.

Here is one happy girl. She LOVES these things. She always wants to go into the playroom and play with them and she will do it for about an hour at a time. I have walked down the hall a few times and peeked in and have seen Ken kissing one of the Barbies a few times. I act like I don't see it because I don't want to embarrass Caroline. I totally remember doing that to them when I was little:) Believe me, that Ken has kissed many Barbies.

Isn't this one a beaut? I cut her hair when I was little. Caroline doesn't choose this one to play with very often. I think it's because of her short hair. She's always left in the box.

Dawn, this is actually your Barbie. Remember you named her "Rose"? She is wearing Peaches and Cream's dress (My favorite Barbie EVER). And her legs are all scarred up from where I took a razor to them in the bathtub once when I was little. If you want her back, I can mail her priority. Just say the word.

This is Doctor Barbie. Poor thing. She is special to me because my Daddy bought her for me during a family vacation in NYC at Macy's. I remember being so excited when he told me I could pick out a Barbie there and so I picked her. She used to be really pretty--she had a pink dress that went from daytime career to date-ready evening wear. I think her hair was cut, too. And she wears the cast for a reason....

...one of our dogs got to her arm and gnawed off her arm. I remember being SO upset when I found her all mangled up--I'm sure I cried because she was one of the main characters in my Barbie Soap Operas. Caroline doesn't want to play with her either--that's why she's naked.

I brought home my Barbie '57 Chevy, too. The year this thing came out, it was the Barbie toy of the season and every store was sold out at Christmas. This was the only thing I really wanted for Christmas. We found one left at Roses and my mom had one of her friends (who was at the store at the time) say she had come to get it for her little girl. I was devastated and so mad at this lady because WE had found it first and her little girl could have cared less about Barbies!! But, I was one excited girl when I unwrapped it on Christmas Eve and found out Mom and Mrs. Christmas were tricking me:) When I pulled it out of the box last week, Roy Austin's eyes got huge. This is the one Barbie thing he wants to play with.

I'm so glad you saved your Barbies and now Caroline can play with them. I really wish I has saved more of you girls' things. Too bad. Your description of the various dolls was hilarious. You sure have a bundle of toys that surely belong in the "injured toy room" in the Toy Story movie. Caroline is having fun, though, and that's what matters.

LOVE Dr. Barbie! And love the Barbie with the gnawed off arm--FUNNY

Great post Donna. I am so glad you have these to pass down to your children. It is fun to bring out toys from your childhood and tell your children about them.

Caroline is so sweet! Her eye is looking great!

CAN I COME TO CHARLOTTE AND PLAY....PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE????

I loved Barbies. I could love myself in my Barbie world for hours on end. I am laughing at your Barbie descriptions. I do have to chastise you for the Barbie pornography that you have posted on Graham Central Station. Is there any way to blur out her teets to make this post more age appropriate? LOL!

This is hilarious!!
My rule about Barbies is if I find naked Barbies they go in the trash. As of today my girls have lost all their Barbies!! haha. Man, I am mean!
I can't believe what a memory seeing that mangled arm Barbie is -I know something like that happened to one of mine. So funny. Jack also used to put my Barbie heads in the toilet. Precious memories. :)

I remember Rose! I can still picture how pretty she looked in her pink and white dress. She was a pretty one. Now, in all your Barbies, do you see any that could or may belong to me? You know how the pictures in the family are. haha! I'll probably never need them since we'll be having all boys! ha!

Caroline looks so grown up in that first picture. She's really getting big.

Love that Caroline is now playing with your Barbies. I must confess that the naked one and problem arm made me feel so sad for her...must be because I saw Toy Story 3 and know that Barbies can really talk and feel pain :) (I know you know I am joking).
