Weekend in the Mountains

Last weekend, we went to Boone. We had been wanting to have a nice, Fall weekend in the mountains to see the leaves and enjoy the brisk weather. Plus, we hadn't seen Roy's parents in a long time because of busy schedules. So, a trip to Boone was way past due! When Roy and I were newlyweds, we spent our first month of marriage in a little cabin off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, while he was still in training with Samaritan's Purse. It was so romantic, and at the peak of Fall when we lived there. That cabin holds nothing but good memories for us, so it was nice of his godparents to let us stay there this past weekend. Jane and Franklin watched the kids at their house during the night, so Roy and I had the cabin to ourselves:It's funny, but the second I go in that cabin, the smell brings me right back to Fall 2001! When we lived there, I felt like I was playing house every day. I had no schedule and did whatever I wanted. It was nice!
Saturday, we went apple picking at an orchard off the parkway. It was the end of the apple season, but we managed to get a big bag full of apples. Plus it was a gorgeous day and the scenery was beautiful!
RoyBoy would not pass an apple on the ground without stopping to pick it up and throw it as hard as he could.
On Sunday we drove down to Montreat to eat lunch with Roy's grandparents. The leaves were gorgeous in Montreat! I think it may have been the peak weekend.

We ate lunch with Pop and Mama Jane and then went back to their house for a little while where we visited and picked up some pretty leaves outside. The kids got to see Nana again, too!

Roy's grandparents are the sweetest people. His grandmother is a hoot! She is so sweet and the most Southern lady I've ever met--a true Steel Magnolia!
And Pop is such a sweet man. He's so loving and kind.

It must have been a great-grandparent weekend because after our visit with Pop and Mama Jane, we headed up the street to go visit with Daddy Bill. Kendra and her kids met us up there, too, so that was an added treat:Caroline loves to go to Daddy Bill's house because she loves to play in his front yard. I took some pictures of them with the beautiful mountains in the background:

Miss personality.

RoyBoy had more fun playing in Daddy Bill's pantry. It was obvious that this little boy was in heaven. He LOVES a good pantry:

Caroline had fun playing with Rachel. She loves to see her cousins. When I asked her what was the best part of her weekend, she said "Seeing my cousins"! Look at her face and you can see the joy. So, our weekend was fun and very busy. We enjoyed every minute of it, though! Thank you, Jane, for watching the kids like you did. It was so nice to sleep in!!

I love that little brown dress on Caroline. It looks really nice on her.
You've had a busy week last week! Have fun passing out candy today at BGEA. Wish we could be there with you.

What a treat! SOunds like a fantastic weekend. And how nice to have the kids to do things with during the day and grandparents to let you have quiet nights and sleeping in.
I am laughing about Roy Austin and the apples. When I had the twins a friend came and picked up my four older kids and took them to an apple orchard for the day. When she came back she said "Madison picked the prettiest apples, Carson wanted the biggest, Ally wanted the smallest apples and Cole just wanted to throw them." That is SO consistent with their personalities!
I also applaud you for being so great at visiting family. That is really wonderful, Donna, I know all those great grandparents just love seeing your sweet kids.

That cabin is so cute. I bet you loved being a newlywed there.

Caroline is looking like a Little House on the Praire girl in the one picture by the fence. She is a little poser.

Laughing so hard at RA playing in the pantry.

WOW!!!! I have really been behind on reading your blog. I loved seeing all the kiddos in their cute costumes and Mr. RA's birthday celebration.

Now on to this post......YOU WENT TO MONTREAT AND VISITED PAW-PAW AND I RECEIVED NO FOREWARNING????? THE WORLD HAS GONE MAD, I TELL YA!!!!! (Big Sigh) I feel the opportunity to ever meet him, bow at his feet, kiss the holy ring and receive a blessing is slipping between my fingers. I hope you can live with yourself Donna. (Where is my dirty napkin, fingernail clippings, tuft of hair, etc???) LOL!

Seriously, the pictures were GORGEOUS!!!! I'm glad you got to get away and enjoy the beauty. This time of year kills me living in TX b/c we don't have Falls like that.

Donna I love all your pictures. I love the one of Roy and RA walking through the orchard. That one you have of Franklin and Caroline walking in Alaska is sweet as well. The one of Caroline posing by the fence is one I can see in the future at a wedding rehearsal dinner or a senior year yearbook!! Ha! She is so you in that picture!! Glad you had a great weekend. Boone is so relaxing. We love going there too! I'm happy for you!

Beautiful pictures! What a great way to start off being married - so fun! And knowing you, Donna, you probably had a great meal on the table and something freshly baked for dessert every night when Roy got home. You're such a great wife...Roy's a lucky guy!
