Hair Cut Gone Bad

Both of my children inherited the lucky Graham gene when it comes to hair. They better thank Jesus for that. Their mommy has her Russian grandmother's fine, thin hair:) Roy and his family have wonderfully, thick hair, and unfortunately this requires a hair cut just about every 2-3 weeks if you are a boy.

Roy Austin has needed a haircut badly for a few weeks. I've just been waiting for a day when Caroline was in school and I didn't have many errands to run. So, yesterday was the day. I had a free boy's haircut coupon to use at a children's hair salon down the road. Now, Sweet 'n Sassy is primarily for girls, but they do offer boy styles, too. And a free haircut at a $10 value? Yes, I'll take it. BIG mistake.

I walked in and realized that I was all alone in the store. No customers, no employees. Just me, Roy Austin, tons and tons of glittery-diva-ish-little-girl-trying-to-be-big-merchandise, and some pop music playing very loudly (1st clue). I stood there dreading the day that my sweet little girl, who willingly wears smocks and mary janes, will want to come to a place like this. Anyway, I was finally greeted by an employee. Her nametag read "Miss Theresa. Stylist to the Stars" (2nd clue). She took down my info and then led me over to our stylist for the day. She couldn't have been over 20. I'm guessing 19 (third clue). She timidly approached a wiggly RoyBoy and this is when it all went down. Now, I am not a hair stylist, but I've stood by RoyBoy while he gets his hair cut enough times to know how to trim hair! You know how stylists comb a chunk of hair, hold it between their two fingers and then cut the excess? This didn't happen. She took it in her fingers but she randomly snipped the hair at an angle--not all the hair in one clean line. She did this all over his head in random spots. There was no pattern to her trimming. I was seriously cringing the whole time as I witnessed uneven lines all over his head. When she approached his forehead area, I wanted to tell her to stop and I would take over. I like to style Roy Boy's hair to the side, just like a little man. Well, let's just say that this may be hard to do for a while. Bless his heart, it's so uneven! It looks like Caroline got a hold of some scissors and played beauty shop:

And look at the sideburns! She trimmed them to a point. What in the world?:

The only positive thing about this is that he does have Graham hair. It will grow quickly. I think it's safe to say that we will not be visiting Sweet 'n Sassy again. I guess we are just Great Clips kind of people!

Donna, I'm cackling! I'm so sorry. But I can't stop. When I saw the pointed sideburns I exploded! WHAT IS THAT? I would sooooo have gone back asked the lady what she was thinking!?

the thing is, you can't make that boy ugly if you try. He's still a punkin. Praise God hair grows fast. Hey, it's fall, you could try out some hats on him.

BY THE WAY - don't cut the sideburns off, even though you may want to do away with them. I did that to Will once and it was a dumb and dumber haircut by the time I was finished. I made it worse.

I second Angela's "BTW!"

I CANNOT believe Royboy's Grandma just said he looks like an elf!!! Hahaha NO HE DOES NOT!

His gorgeous eyes distract from the haircut (which does not look that bad!)

I have taken MY GIRLS to those types of hair joints before...let's just say that I have been liberated and now we tell Daddy boy that we HAVE to spend the BIG BUCKS for haircuts!

and like Denise said, at least it wasn't YOUR hair!

p.s. maybe she was going with the Twilight theme?????

Laughing at Inger's comment and laughing at the pics of RA. He's so cute! He's clueless and that's what's so funny. I love the pointed sideburns and I can JUST PICTURE you at that place watching the teenager cutting (or butchering) his hair. Wow! He's still adorable though.

Oh, no!!! I want to reach through the computer and even out those sideburns!!! A point? That is definitely unique! Ha! Ha!
We invested in a nice hair trimming set years ago and I cut both Eddie and Aron's hair. No one cuts hair like mommy! :)

I just came back to read your comments and am still giggling when I look at those pointed side burns. hahahah!

Donna - I was certain I would be able to look at the pictures and say "You can't even notice" - but I could!!! But Angela is right, he still is ADORABLE!
I got Ally's hair cut at a kids place once and hers was so bad that even Jason noticed and commented. I took her back and the manager fixed it. We won't be back there either. :)
And what is it with not being able to say "NO!!" to a hair dresser? I can be sitting in that chair watching them do exactly what I said NOT to do but I just smile and say "Thanks - it looks great." Why do we do that??!

Those sideburns are hilarious!! I can't wait to see the cut in real life next week. Or will you have it fixed by then? It will grow quickly..somehow little boys' hair always grows faster than ours.

Donna, you crack me up! You always remember such great details about things. Love the description of how you're supposed to cut hair and then how she did it. You're a good blog writer.

I agree with everyone else...RoyBoy is still a cutie...nope, ain't nothin gonna change that!

I'm laughing so hard right now not because of RB's hair or about your blogging, but mainly because I didn't think anything of the pointed sideburns. I just went to check the boys' pictures in the hall. For all I know they could have had elf hair all these years and their poor mommy just let it happen to them....Nope, we're clear. Nice strait lines in my boys' hair. Phew. Now that I actually pay attention to it, it does look funny...a little. ;-)

OK, Donna......RA is a Graham. I bet if you put his picture on Youtube you could start a new trend and boys would be scrambling all over the world to get pointed sideburns. You might photoshop a picture of Paw-Paw with pointed sideburns as well. That would really add to the effect. HA!

This summer Liam cut his own hair so he had the same front look...he wanted it like that..can you believe it?

I got that same coupon in my Citipass. I am thinking you might be recommending I take a pass on using it!

Love to you.

I am laughing at Angleas BTW because I just got Brody's hair cut and they cut his sideburns off and he totally looks like dumb and dumber hair cut. Looks like he has a toupe sitting right on top of his head. It is awful. the bad thing is my aunt did it so I can't blog about it! ha!!
but the good thing is he has good guatemalan hair and it is already growing out!!

It takes a lot for a blog to make me laugh out loud and this is sooo funny! I just took my two boys to the same place this weekend because of the coupon. This was their first "real" haircut (I've always done it) and when we left I said I would never pay again. I actually put Owen back in the chair and asked her to fix it. You couldn't even tell Gavin got a hair cut. It was horrible! When we left Owen said, "that was fun going to the groomers". :)
