Last Wednesday, the children and I headed up to Boone to visit Nana. Roy was out of town and so was Franklin, so Jane invited us up to visit with her for the night. We had a good time as always, although it rained the majority of the time we were there. I had a fun time doing nothing:) On Thursday, we drove up to Grandfather Mountain for lunch and to see some animals. We were able to see some bears but a big storm came again so we had to leave. We will go back soon for a picnic and to cross the big bridge there and see more animals.

Caroline, Nana and Roy Austin in front of the statue of Mildred, the famous Grandfather Mountain bear.

Roy Austin watching the otters. These guys were fun to watch.
On Friday, we went with Jessica and her children to Charlotte's new Ikea. All of the excitement of it opening has died down, so we thought it would be a good time to go. It's a great store but it's a little overwhelming because it's so big! They have a little cafe and free childcare, which we took advantage of:)
Kathryn and RoyBoy getting ready to eat lunch.

Caleb and Caroline wearing their new bibs. Now, I realize these 4 year olds may look too old to be wearing these bibs but Jessica had a great idea. These bibs are the hard plastic kind that form a little tray at the bottom. She uses them in the car for when the kids have to eat lunch (ie: chicken nuggets) in the car. She puts the food in the tray part of the bib and it acts as the plate so food doesn't get all in the carseats and on the floor. GENIUS idea!

And this little guy. He's eaten a Cascade gel pack, a cigarette butt, fertilizer, sidewalk chalk. He plays in toilets, climbs anything and everything and at the tender young age of 19 months, I can now add climbing out of his crib to his bag of tricks. AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Today Roy, Caroline and I spent the early afternoon playing outside, pulling an occasional weed and enjoying the sunshine while our sweet boy took his nap. Around 4:00 Roy told me to go wake RoyBoy up so we could all go on a walk. I came inside, turned the corner on the stairway and there was Roy Austin coming down the stairs and holding a CD, looking at me as if to say "
Hey! What's up?". I just stood there staring at him in disbelief. Do you know how dangerous that could have been?He had been up for a while because things were pulled out of my closet and other places throughout the upstairs. What in the world?! Caroline was in the crib for a little less than 2.5 years and she NEVER ONCE climbed out. Not once! Why God, WHY?! Does anyone need a strong dose of birth control?

Please Lord, tell me all boys aren't like this . . . but we'll take one as cute! :)
That's my cute boy!!!! He is sooooo smart!! Just like his sister---just smart in different ways. Fun having you up here, just come again! Love you
Aren't boys so fun? Have you thought about a crib tent? It would SAFELY contain the sweet blessing!
He is a DOLL though. I bet that was shocking to see him when you thought he couldn't get out of his crib.
Great to see you and Roy today - it's just all for HIS glory, isn't it, Donna?
Nancy! I am sitting her shaking laughing and had to tell Roy what I was laughing about!! Everyone, Nancy is a trip and we have a funny joke about serving the Lord. It's innocent....no harm meant.
Okay, I'm sitting here with my mouth open and laughing at the same time. WOW! I can't believe RA got out of his crib. He probably felt SO HAPPY and free roaming through the house by himself while ya'll were outside. I'm laughing picturing him. Oh Donna! Now what?! So funny! He's hilarious! I guess you'll have to have another baby so you can put RA in a big boy bed soon. :)
PS. I got a good laugh out of your Twitter too. Leland and I were JUST talking about that.
Cute pic of Jane & kids with Mildred. :O) And I agree Ikea is a little overwhelming at first but so worth it for the deals! What a fun summer you have to look forward to with RA & his shenanigans. Did you just start laughing or crying when you saw him?!?
I hate it when people say thing like this, but i am oing to say it anyways.... just be glad he isn't twins! My first 2 boys were pretty easy but my twins sound just like RA - BOTH of them!!! :)
Donna, I am rolling about sweet RA. Honey, we will pray for you because you've got your hands full. Maybe you need to resort to a shock collar? LOL! God does have a sense of humor.
Donna, that is hilarious about Roy Austin. I can picture him now with that little grin on his face when he saw you. He is such a cutie and very athletic!
We had fun at Ikea the other day. One day we will be able to go and leave all the kids in the Magic Forest so we can shop alone!
Definately get the zip up tent for the crib. I had to get it for Adam and while it was not attractive and I felt like I was putting him a cage sometimes...it was a lifesaver! He is all boy.
Love the idea for he Ikea bibs. I bought so many of those things. We are going to Baltimore in a few weeks and I am so excited because they have an Ikea. Whoo Hoo!
Yes, get the tent. We had it for Colin when he was 1 and 1/2. I was so scared once he started climbing out because we had harwood floors. We called it his cage, but he didn't mind :)
I'm playing catch up...and totally agree the crib tent is the way to go. Winnie has one on her crib and we don't have to worry ;-) We need to make a trip down to the IKEA, and the outlets for that matter!
All i can say is crib tent....
had to get one for Jack at this age. believe it or not Brody has not tried this yet....so Roy austin has one up on him.....ha ha :)
