What a weekend! On Friday morning, we met our friends, the Taylors, at the Charlotte Nature Museum. While we were there it started raining and never stopped...all weekend! We had a great time at the museum and will definitely go back soon:

Caroline and Roy Austin playing in the water stream. Yes, RoyBoy has his entire arm in the water.

Caroline next to a nasty snake. There were so many snakes there. I got the shivers many times!

Kathryn, Caleb and Caroline in the butterfly pavilion. Caroline looks like an awkward third wheel:)
Friday night, I tried out an activity tip I received from my friend, Caroline. I was a little nervous about this one, but let me just say that my kids LOVED it, it was cheap, so much fun, took up a half an hour and I got to cook dinner in PEACE!

I bought a tablecloth at the dollar store, had the kids get some Little People and cars, I squirted Redi-Whip (HT brand, of course!!) on the table and let them play in the snow. At first they were a little shocked that I was letting them do it, but it didn't take long for them to have a blast! Surprisingly, this is not that messy of an activity and it is very easy to clean up:
Saturday was crazy for us. Roy wanted to go to the Bass Pro Shop. First off, you should never go there on a Saturday, but especially not on a Saturday when it is pouring rain outside!! When I say pouring rain, I mean torrential downpouring. It was so crowded at the outlet mall, people were everywhere, walking SO slowly, stopping in the middle of the aisles. I lost one of Roy Austin's nice shoes in Circuit City and it ticked me off! I have to admit, I was in the worst mood until I found that shoe! Needless to say, we spent about two hours there and left without any purchases. When we came home, Roy made us a delicious meal. Caroline told him before he went on his last trip that she wanted to try a lobster one day. So, Roy promised her that when he came home, he'd take her to get a lobster tail and he'd fix it for her. Well, Saturday night was the night:

Almost four years old and already eating lobster? Let's just say that someone has Daddy wrapped around her little finger. I made sure she knew that this was a
very special treat!! She loved the lobster, by the way:)
Sunday, it was still pouring rain. We came home from church and relaxed. Caroline is really into wanting to cook and clean in the kitchen lately. She took my plate from me after lunch and told me she would go wash the dishes. A few minutes later, this is what I found:

Look how clean these dishes are! They were washed in cold water, and notice the milk still in Roy Austin's sippy cup and the beef stroganoff remnants still in the rubbermaid:
Sunday evening, the pouring rain turned into pouring snow! It was beautiful and so relaxing to stay home doing nothing. We received about 4 inches. All through the night, it continued to snow, but when we woke up, it was already beginning to melt:( I quickly got the kids dressed and we went for a wagon ride around the block before it was all gone. I'm telling you, playing out in the snow as an adult is no fun at all! I can't believe that when I was little, I could play out in it all day long!

I loved reading about your weekend and going to CMills on a Saturday does NOT sound fun to me at all! Especially when you come home with nothing.
That's so nice that Roy made lobster on Sat night. That little girl is going to have a spoiled pallet that's for sure! And I cannot believe how big Caroline is getting. Seriously, in those pictures she's really looking big! I can't believe she's almost 4! And I'm laughing at RA2 with his arm in the water. He makes me laugh.
Have fun in the snow. Glad you took your kids out in it already. I guess that will be me next year but for now, we'll enjoy it from inside nice and warm!
What a nice post. I'm so glad you all had such a good weekend together. Caroline is really growing up...and beginning to have expensive tastes in food!! That picture of her and Roy is priceless. I love it!
We woke up to about a foot of snow. It's really beautiful, and Daddy and I are just taking it easy and enjoying it. He got home from his trip just in time, or his plane wouldn't have been able to land. So good to have him home again.
Enjoy the rest of the snow while you can. Hopefully this will be the end of winter and spring will be coming soon.
Great WWU! Love the title! You guys were busy beavers!
I love to watch snakes, when they are behind the glass case. But they do give one the chills.
The outlet on a rainy Saturday??? NUTS'O!
The Cool Whip thing looks much better than the pudding thing. I guess it would be a little less messy!
Me no likie lobster. Cool that Roy made you all some!
Dolly--spoiled pallet---I am laughing! You sound like Miss Betts!
You guys are a seriously busy family. You always have something fun going on. Love the picture of Caroline being the third wheel, that is exactly what it looks like. So cute.
You are BRAVE to try the Redi Whip play time. BRAVE! But a good mommy to not let the mess stress you out.
I can not believe Caroline likes lobster. I hated it when I was a kid. I love it now, but for some reason I had to grow into it.
We were out running around in the rain on Saturday too, but ended up cuting our outings short due to the messy messy weather.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the snow too, but I know what you mean about no fun for adults. Our neighbors were making a snow man and I told Mitchell we should do that, then we just looked at each other and said no thanks:)
Love the WWU! We were at CMills on Sat., too!!!! I think I realize why it was so nutso....the MILLIONS of people going to IKEA had to park there to take the shuttle to IKEA. Even the highway was NUTS like there was a race or something.
Love Carol as 3rd wheel and smiling w/ the lobster. That WAS a special treat. Roy has really done it now b/c my parents turned JR onto lobster early and she LOVED it. Before she knew the delicacy it was, we would go to restuarants and she would order up lobster as if it was no biggie. Max gets a kick out of it. I'm w/ Denise...me no likie.
Cool whip DOES look fun!
HPS, I told Roy that it had to be IKEA. When we pulled off of 85, he was wondering if it was a race, but I told him it was probably Ikea opening up. I didn't realize they had shuttles carrying people there!!! Remind me not to go there for a long time. Funny you were there, too. We bumped into two families we know while we were there.
LOL about JR! Roy said he's raising an expensive date.
CMills....NO......Lobster....Yes.......Cool Whip.....Yes......Snow...
Yes.....So you had a pretty good weekend. Go Caroline. Good girl washing the dishes. Donna you are so good about letting her help when it really is help at all. You are doing it right. My mom wouldn't let us do much because she didn't want to clean up the bigger mess we made trying to help. I hate to say that sometimes I was a lot like my mom. If I had it to do over I would try and do better......Good mom you are. Love you....
Birthday coming up?????? Happy early Birthday!
You are one brave woman to try the cool whip activity! I too agree that playing in the snow as an adult is NO FUN!!!
We had fun at the nature museam and will have to do it again! I love the idea of the ready whip and will definitely try it soon with my kids. Tell Caroline that I'm impressed that she liked the lobster. That is a big step to try that! Good job Roy!
Fun weekend...okay, not the Bass Pro Shop part, I would have asked to be dropped off at the mall, then meet up later!
Wow, lobster..me no likie either!
LOVE the snow, but thankful for our rain!
Great weekend wrap up, ours was blissfully boring!!
What a great recap of your weekend. The museum looks like a place I should take Liam and Aaron to visit. Love the stream photograph.
How fun that Roy made Lobster for the family - looks like a great time!
Donna - what a fun mom you are. Claire took a cooking class a few years ago and really liked it. If Caroline is still into it in about a year- it is such a fun thing to do. She also likes to wash dishes and at the ripe old age of 8 does a pretty good job! Keep letting her try!
I am impressed that Roy knows how to cook Lobster. Roy please do tell the lobster tips! Looks like a jam packed weekend, but one of fun!
First off, HAPPY (early) BIRTHDAY DONNA!
Are you sure all the traffic at Concord Mills wasn't for the Zaxby's? I would always stop there on my way to Raleigh (for work) and get me some tea. I didn't realize that's where the IKEA was too.
May have to try the cool whip thing tomorrow since we'll be home again. Glad to hear it wasn't as messy as I would have thought.
Glad y'all had fun today in the snow!
I'm so proud of Caroline for trying Lobster. I don't care for it, but think it's so great to let kids try everything. Yall are great parents!
I can not believe you went to CMills on a rainy Saturday. Glad it was fun!
Do you think you'll go to IKEA? I want to make a visit.
Great recap. The whipped-cream play looks like a great sensory activity, too!
Happy Birthday to you!!!!
Love you and have a great day,
Jane
Happy Birthday, Donna.
Have a great day.
Love ya.
Happy Birthday, Don Don!!!! I hope your day is GRAND. Can't wait to celebrate you. In the meantime, let this refresh your memory why I love you: http://tinyurl.com/b8q8ev
:)
Donna, I feel your anger on the shoe issue. Taylor lost a shoe at Wal-mart right after Christmas, a day before we were going out of town. I check the lost & found every time we go & no one has turned it in. Really???? Who steals one baby shoe?? I get so mad every time I go to Walmart now. Also, Happy Birthday!
great way to recap your weekend. I have so many friends that blog and don't know any that have 22 comments on post right after it has been posted!! What a fan base!
I was going to comment on my fav part - but now my fav part is the comment left by deborah before me - love her questioning of who would steal one baby shoe and her her relentless visiting the WalMart lost and found!!!! WalMArt, by the way, is way worse than Bass Pro Shop on a rainy, IKEA-opening Saturday in my book!
Happy Birthday Donna! Hope you are having the best one yet!!
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Donna
Happy Birthday to you!
and many moooooorrre
Melissa
