A Year of Laughs

As you know, last January I started a Laugh Jar for funny things that Caroline says or does. Since it's a new year, I am emptying my jar and starting from scratch. Last night I took out 2008's laughs, documented them and printed them out for her baby book. I thought I'd share some recent ones for you:

*One night our family was playing in the playroom together. Roy and I were watching Caroline as she played in the kitchen area. She was pretending to be the mommy and suddenly she said "Ugghh! You kids are going to make me an old lady!". I realized then how much she really listens to me!!
*In November we were at Chick-fil-a with Caleb, Kathryn and Jessica. Caroline was really hyper this day. The kids were playing in the play area with another little girl. All of a sudden, the little girl ran out to her mom (sitting next to our table) and said "Mommy, that little girl in there is very loud!".

*We were getting ready to go to Babies 'R Us one day. Caroline asked where we were going, so I told her. She smiled and got really excited and then her face turned to one of concern and she said "No, let's go to Big Girls 'R Us".

*We were listening to Christmas music on the radio in the car and the song "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" came on. We came to a stop and I turned around to look at Caroline who had a really pensive look on her face. She looked really worried and said "Why was Mommy kissing Santa Claus?". I explained that it was just Daddy pretending to be Santa because Mommy ONLY kisses Daddy!

*Linens-N-Things is going out of business, so one day I took the kids there during our errand running time. When we got out of the car, Caroline asked what store we were going to and I told her. She looked at me and said "Why do we need lemons?" So then I had a conversation trying to explain to a three-year-old the definition of "linens".

This year should be an overflowing one for my laugh jar because Roy Austin is now beginning to talk and do things that--although may not be funny at the moment--make me snicker when I think back on them. Like the time I found him in a dark bathroom 3 weeks ago emptying an entire roll of unrolled toilet paper into the potty. He squinted up at me when I opened the door and let some light in as if to say, "What?".
If you don't have a Laugh Jar, I encourage you to make one. I am so glad I have these funny memories written down from 2008.

These are great stories! I am committed to a "Laugh Journal" with Olivia. I didn't with the boys and regret it so much. You assume you will remember all the cute things they say and do and you don't. I have forgotten so much in such a short time and could kick myself. (Girls, you who have small children, learn from my mistake and get yourself a Laugh Something)

LOL. Those are a hoot. Thanks for sharing. That Carol sure is a card and I have a SNEAKIN suspicion that her lil bro is going to give her some TIGHT competition with the # of laugh jar entries!

I love that laugh jar idea! It is even fun to remember the way the "mispronounce" words too! Keep doing it, you won't regret it! (My mom had a notebook of funny things I did and said...and she has had it a loooong time!)

Donna, you good mama you! I always love your laugh jar posts-do you realize you have a comedian in the family with Miss Caroline?

Glad you guys had a good Christmas. I got worn out reading about all you guys did! My favorite pic is the one of sweet Roy sitting on his knees looking at a toy - he looks so old! :(

You Grahams have a great 2009!!!

Cute! I like the one about Mommy kissing Santa Clause. Isn't it sweet how kids take things so literally? They don't understand jokes and sarcasm yet....so innocent. So if us late bloomers (in the laugh jar department) start one, we need to come up with another name, so we won't be stealing yours, right? :) Will used to be SO literal. If I would say "It's raining cats and dogs outside", his eyes would get huge and he's say..."nu-uh, where?"

Angela..the laugh jar concept isn't mine. I copied someone who got the idea out of the Family Fun magazine. You can call yours a Laugh Jar!!

Dolly, I was going to include the "X" story but I didn't know if I should or not.
