I don't know if you've heard or not, but gas prices are CRAZY! So we decided to have a little "staycation" in Charlotte, NC. Our family did my favorite thing--spend the entire weekend together!! We all went yard saling on Saturday morning and then went to the grocery store, we played outside, took walks, went to church, played some more, cleaned ALL of the windows in our house (inside AND out, thank you very much. They are spark-ka-leee!) painted a little, worked on the garage...the list is endless and we are tired.
On Sunday, Roy took us to Mac's Speed Shop for lunch. Our friend, Charlie, told us about this place last week and Roy has been 3 times since! It looks like a biker's bar, but it's the BEST BBQ in the Charlotte city limits. It's even written up in this month's Southern Living magazine. I was very impressed and I thoroughly enjoyed the hush puppies and mac-and-cheese! Thanks for the tip, Charlie! Good thing this place isn't near our home or else we'd be there all the time. Seriously, though, it is a delicious place to eat.
I hope you all had a memorial Memorial Day weekend! Enjoy our pictures:

Wow, that was a busy weekend! I just can't believe how big Roy Austin is getting. He looks so old!
Roys face is priceless in the biker picture!
Looks like a wonderful weekend. How nice to spend a whole weekend together with just the fam...and look how much you got done! Both of your children are so cute, and their eyes?! Stunning.
Looks and sounds like you all had a wonderful weekend. I'm so glad for you. The pictures are so nice to see. The children are getting so big and we miss them so much. Daddy and I went with Dolly and Leland yesterday to Silverbrook, Leland's parents farm. The weather was beautiful, and it was so neat to see Leland doing the things he loves to do. He took us all over the farm in his truck...up on high ridges that were scary to climb. I thought we'd tip over at some points, but when we got to the top, the views were spectacular. At one point he had to change the cows to another field so we opened a gate to the new field and Leland started calling the cows. They started a stampede over to the new field....running like a heard of wild animals. It really was scary, and fun at the same time. He knew what he was doing. I'm glad we were in the truck through all this....those cows were all around us! It was a wonderful day, and we all had fun. I can easily see Dolly on a very nice farm one day....a ranchers wife!! Hope everyone had as good a day as you....and we did.
Whoa mom, you basically summed up my post for my blog! We did have a good time...a ranchers wife? I'm not sure about that but it was a fun day at the farm and Leland loves being up there.
Donna, your weekend looked really nice. It's nice to get things done like window washing, etc and enjoying your family all home to do it together. We'll have to check out that Mac's BBQ when I come down next week.
First of all, Donna, you look FABULOUS! You'll have to share how you got so fit, so fast!
Way to go on cleaning your windows! We've lived in this house 5 years and they've never been cleaned outside.
That little Roy Austin is a PUNKIN'! His eyes are so big and blue.
The pic's of the restaurant are great. Roy has a sport coat, Roy Austin in his smocking and there's bandana biker boys in the background. BBQ draws every kind. :)
ps - I did a little project over the holiday wknd too, I'll be blogging about it so stay tuned...
Very nice Donna. I LOVE those days when it is just us and no phone calls or people over. That was what I loved about living in Danville (no one knew us) and in Atlanta (so big, no one could just "show up" at our house), it was always just US!
Anyway, I am glad your MDW as fun, as well as yours mom and Dolly. I'm gonna pull a "Debbie Downer," I spent Sunday night and Monday over the toilet...but feeling better this morning! Yippie!
Roy came in to work this morning talking about how sore he was after washing all of those windows! My arms are sore after yesterday's yardwork - using the electric trimmer - I have no arm strength - need to start lifting I guess. Did you see in the news the young mother who is going to be in the Olympics - lifts about 250 lbs or more!?
We stayed around here too - went to a friend's 40th birthday on Saturday at the Jewish Community Center on Providence Rd - that is a really nice place. Our friends joined because it is close to where they live and much much less crowded than the Y - especially their pools - it is about the same monthly rate.
Willie and I will have to try this Mac's BBQ. Roy Austin is precious - those beautiful blue eyes!
Good post! It sounds like you had a very packed weekend for someone who had no plans. Don't you feel good with all those projects done? I am impressed with the windows, especially b/c that picture showed how time consuming your windows must be because of all the individual panes. Good job!
I laughed at the BBQ place. Roy looked like a cat at a dog show. Bikers everywhere and preacher's son in the navy sportcoat and girls in silk. Funny!
Loved the pictures of your adorable kiddos, Donna! And I agree with everyone, great to get some things done around the house on "Staycations!" You get EXTRA points for window-washing, though --ugh! Dolly, how fun to picture you as a rancher's wife on the hills of VA --LOL! You'd fit in anywhere you go, girl! LOVE the new picture of Caroline and Roy Austin on the home page---they are sooooo CUTE!
What timing. I JUST heard about Mac's last week but haven't been yet. It will be on the TOP of our to do list. Maybe we should all meet there for dinner one night this week. I LOVE that ya'll went in your church clothes. LOL.
We had a STAYCATION too...lots of grilling out along with it. I think I've had more hamburgers in the past week than in my whole lifetime put together!!! I am HAMBURGERED OUT!
Just stopping by to catch up on what is going on in our future hometown. Love the new header photo, entry on snakes...oh my and also the update on your Memorial Day weekend. I wish I had something excited to post on my blog about our weekend, but it was filled with saying farewell to friends and packing, packing and packing some more!
And where is this BBQ joint - Mac's? I need an address. This side of town is seriously lacking good bbq, so we're always on the hunt. Oh, and Caroline was So CUTE in Sunday School when her class joined the big kids - she danced and danced - where'd she get those moves? :)
Fun Weekend! I have never heard of Mac's. Looks like a place Mitchell would like:) We will check this out sometime soon.
