My Jar Continues to Run Over....

It's almost 2013 and so that means it's just about time to empty my laugh jar for the year.  In case you don't know, a few years ago I saw an idea on another blog to get a jar and each time one of the children says something funny or sweet, write it down and put it in the jar.  It is meant to bring laughs, but for me, it brings joy--I have now done this for about 5 years and I am SO glad I have these sweet memories recorded.  I have the cutest things written down that these crazy kids of ours have said!  So, without further ado (in case anyone cares) here are a few funny and sweet things that they said in 2012:

*Caroline and Roy Austin were eating breakfast and were looking at The Pioneer Woman cookbook.  Caroline told him that the lady on the cover was the Pioneer Woman.  He looked at her all confused and said, "The Pinecone Woman?"

*Roy Austin came up to me and whispered, "Can you tell me the story of Pencil and Nickle?"  I was so confused and kept asking him to repeat.  Then I realized what he meant....Hansel and Gretel!

* I love old Standard songs and one day in the car, I had Barbra Streisand's "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" playing.  I explained to Caroline that the song meant that when you fall in love, "smoke" gets in your eyes and you can't see clearly because you're in love.  So, a few days later we were watching an old musical where the guy kissed the girl.  She looked at me seriously and said, "Is smoke in her eyes?"

*Roy Austin was playing in a park and I heard him tell a little boy, "See that baby sister climbing over there?  She's mine."

*Roy Austin told me, "Sometimes I pretend I'm smoking."  I gently pushed for more information, not getting mad or embarrassing him.  He told me that when he plays bad guys, he smokes.

*After I told the kids a long, detailed story, Roy Austin asked me if I'd tell another.  I told him I couldn't because I needed a break.  Caroline told me that they loved when I told stories because I'm a good storyteller, and Roy Austin said, "yeah, you're like a library!"

*Caroline, Charlotte and I were watching The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular DVD and I told them that when I was little, I wanted to be a Rockette.  Charlotte said that she wanted to be a Rockette and Caroline said, "Charlotte, if you were a Rockette I'd come to all of your shows."

*Roy Austin's prayer one night: Jesus, thank you for the day.  And I hope you have a big computer or iPad so you can see me being good."

*Another prayer: "Jesus, thank you that it's your birthday.  And be with the people in Africa because they think it's their birthday and they say 'Happy Kwaanza."

So most of the laughs were from our RoyBoy this year.  He is funny and he keeps this mommy laughing, which is good because most of the time I think I'm going nuts!
