"Hey! How are you? I haven't seen you in so long! So, what's new with you?"?
This happened to me recently with someone I hadn't seen in over a year. She asked me what was new with our family. I replied with the classic answer, "Same old, same old". Later I thought back on that conversation and realized that nothing IS new! I wish I had had some great, exciting news to share about our life, but there just wasn't any....or so I thought. Then I realized that we are living our life, as mundane as it may be. And however dull it may seem to me at times, I am helping form my children's memories, ones I hope they look back on with fondness. So, there may be no exciting news to share, but here are some bits and pieces of news from around our home. I'll start with our boy.
Today was his parent teacher conference. I'll admit I was a little nervous to see what was going to be presented to me, but the reports came back better than expected! His teachers basically summed him up as a child who is just so happy! They said he is always laughing, smiling and enjoying life. They also said he was a caring and good friend. This all made me happy:) Roy and I have seen a lot of change in him this past week...just taking more responsibility and striving to obey. And he is starting to work really hard with his writing. Here he is recently practicing his "R"'s, which he has mastered pretty well!

Aren't those good?! I promise he made them all by himself. I feel bad that we call him by a double name, now. He's got such a long name to write. He's mastered the "ROY" but that "AUSTIN" is kind of hard. Now onto Sweet Caroline. She continues to be such a joy to us. She is growing up too fast and starting to mature in her thinking and speech. She'll say the funniest "Big Girl" things at times and I'll just smile to myself. I love listening to the advice she gives to Roy Austin:) In November, she went to her dental checkup and the dentist told her that she needed to stop sucking her thumb before her top teeth fell out because they'd grow in funny. She only sucked it at night, but that's all it took. She stopped instantly all by herself! So, the other day she asked me if she could get her nails painted since she didn't suck her thumb any more. She is almost 7 and has never had them painted, so for her first time last week, we painted them a fun, glittery gloss:

And speaking of teeth coming in funny. Poor Charlotte. When she smiles, all you see is teeth. We love it! The other day in the car Caroline said, "Mommy? Charlotte's front teeth look like Mater." I had to think for a second what she was talking about and then I just started laughing. THEY DO!
When she looks at you (always with a smile), these sweet little baby white bucks show. I have to admit, she gets it honestly.....

That is me circa 1988. Right at the beginning of my buck-tooth phase.
Bless Charlotte's heart....I don't think she stands a chance getting around it. Braces will be inevitable.

I'm shaking laughing at those pics of you and Charlotte looking like "Mater". NOw that's funny! I remember that buck tooth stage. haha! She'll turn out beautiful just like her momma.
Love the real life clip of the Graham home. Children ARE a blessing! haha
Yeah, I, too, laughed out loud at that comment about Mater. The things children think about...and the truthfulness they share without even knowing it's funny. Bless Caroline's heart. I love your post. Little Charlotte does look like you as a little girl, and I know she'll grow up to be beautiful just like her mommy, too. And that little video clip....the trials of a mother!! Love it!
LOVE it! Great post Donna. Great real life moments.
I was just thinking about you early this morning in bed as I was getting ready to get up. I was thinking of how HAPPY you will be one day when Caroline is old enough to stay home so you can run out and do some stuff-- like go to a parent teacher conference by yourself, or out to dinner with Roy. It is coming Donna, before you know it those sweet babies will be a bit older and you will look back on all these times you are having now, with mastery! You will think, I did it!
Your teeth pictures crack me up!!! You are so funny but I do think Charlotte gets her teeth from you.....although when I took Will to the orthodontist one time and he saw Cissie's teeth he just LOL.....she had some bucked teeth too! I love Charlotte's teeth!
Well, I can tell you that braces ARE NOT CHEAP...we have two in braces NOW and one in college. Yikes! No wonder my atm card got denied at the post office this morning.
Lindsay is well on her way of having beautiful teeth, but, I gotta tell you...I miss her bucky beavers!
Love the video..so real and so true for Mommies with more than one child! haha
I don't know what possessed me to start looking through some blogs today, I haven't "blogged" in so long, but here I am and this youtube clip of you guys waiting for Roy to get home is so refreshing to see! Sometimes I feel like the only one who has fussy kids at "that time" of the day. Little Charlotte is getting so big; what a sweetie...all three of them are actually and I can't believe how much Caroline looks like you in those circa 1988 pics! And yes, children ARE a blessing and it's good to say it out loud to yourself in those moments :)
