Now You Know!

The other night as we were laying out Caroline's clothes for school, she asked me why a Peter Pan collar is called a Peter Pan collar. I honestly didn't know, but to appease her and get her into bed, I told her I'd google it and let her know. I forgot. She didn't. She asked me today if I googled it yet--I always laugh when my kids use words in their conversations like "google", "Ebay", or "Craigslist".

So tonight I did my homework. Basically the collar takes it's name from....yep, Peter Pan! Remember how he doesn't want to grow up? He wants to stay young and innocent forever. And, even though Peter Pan is a masculine character, the collar is mainly used only on little girls' clothing --evoking a sense of innocence and youthfulness. The collar became popular in the mid-twentieth century, starting with school uniforms and then flowing into other wear.

Am I the only one that didn't know the history behind this famous collar?
