A Time to Laugh

Since we're more than halfway through the year 2011, I thought I'd share some of our Laugh Jar entries. Here are some of the things that my kids have done so far this year that have made me smile. It's funny how many of our laughable moments take place in the car!:

1. Caroline: "Do nuns love God?" Me: "yes." Caroline: "Maybe I'll be a nun one day." Me: "Nuns don't get married." Caroline: "EW! I'm not getting married!!".

2. We kept finding Roy Austin sneaking into our bathroom to steal some of Roy's Old Spice deodorant. Roy finally told him he could have one of his own and he put it in Roy Austin's bathroom. It made his day to have his own deodorant and be like Daddy!

3. Roy Austin said something mean to Caroline in the car one morning. I made him apologize and Caroline said, "It's okay, Buddy, but you broke my heart!". On that same ride, he looked out the window at a lady in another car and said, "she's bad!". Caroline replied, "Buddy, only God knows if she's bad or not." (I had recently told her that only God knows a person's heart!).

4. In the car one morning on the way to school, Caroline said, "Charlotte? Can I tell you something? I sure am glad we have you!".

5. Caroline loves Michael W. Smith's song, Awesome God. One day we were listening to it in the car and she said it reminded her of all the people we knew who had gone to Heaven:)

6. Caroline's job once we get into the car each day is to make sure Roy Austin gets buckled up. One day while she was buckling him up, he started pitching a fit. She said, "Ugh!! Buddy!! I've been helping you for years!! It's so hard!!" (she is 6, he is 3.5. I think there are MANY more years of helping him out ahead!!!)

7. I was getting ready to go see my OB-GYN for my annual check up. I had a babysitter coming over to watch the older kids and I told them I was taking Charlotte with me so Dr. Stein could see her. Roy Austin looked at me puzzled and said, "Yours going to put Charlotte back in your belly?". (Why else would I go to the doctor who took Charlotte out of my belly??!)

****************************************************

All week long, Roy Austin has been really into his GeoTrax train set. He has dumped his big blue box of trains and tracks in the upstairs hallway and has just taken over the entire hallway as his train play area. It really annoyed me earlier this week, because you have to literally walk around and on top of tracks to get back and forth. Then the other day, I was putting away laundry and looked over at him, watching his train go around the track he made while he sucked his thumb and held his hair (his trademark pose). I then realized that seeing that was a treasure I needed to have in my heart forever:) It's a sweet sight I hope I never forget. Here is a picture I captured of the same situation later that day:

And another sweet treasure....last night we went to Carowinds after dinner. We told RoyBoy to run upstairs and change his clothes so we could hurry up and get over there. This is what he considered appropriate amusement park attire:

Any time he dresses himself, you can bet the boots will be involved. His shirt and shorts are always on backwards, too:Are you getting tired of reading about my kids yet?! Well, here is one more sweet thing. Caroline's new thing she loves to do is dance. The other day, I found her laying on the playroom floor next to the CD player studying the songs of Mary Poppins so she would know the right moves to put with each song. Every day, she dresses up, closes the playroom door and dances her heart out. If she catches you spying, she gets so embarrassed and mad!! It is so cute to see her singing and dancing and it reminds me SO much of myself at her age! Here is a picture I got the other day before she saw me and literally almost started crying:

Love, love, LOVE this post!!! Caroline is really an old soul, I think. She has such wise things to say....and funny things, as well. You've taught her well for her to be able to have the insight like she has. And that Roy Boy....I laughed out loud when I saw how he dressed himself for Carowinds. I'm so glad you write those funny/cute things down and put them in your laugh jar.....don't ever stop!!!

Oh, and do you think having her older cousin/dancer stay with you for a few days have anything to do with Caroline's dancing? I think there may have been some lessons going on.

I thought the same thing about Caroline. Having her cool big cousin Maddie at the house who loves dancing may have had something to do with it but then again, her momma was the same way.

I love your thoughts on Roy Austin and playing with his train in the middle of the hallway. Your thoughts almost made me tear up. These days will be gone before we know it.

Roy Austin wears his clothes like his daddy did.....Roy always wore his boots on the wrong feet even.....zipper was always unzipped and he was always pretty dirty!!!
