Soccer Mom

Back when Roy and I were newlyweds and had nothing to do on Saturday mornings than to sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast while tossing around ideas about what to do with our day, we'd pass soccer fields on the way to the mall and we'd smile and say, "one day we'll be there with our kids!". Well.....today was that day!

For weeks, we've been waiting for soccer to begin. RoyBoy, especially, has been so excited to finally do a "ballgame". The other day on the radio, "Eye of the Tiger" came on (it was a kids station, I promise) and I told him it was a cool ballgame song. He loved it! So this morning when he woke up I started singing it to him and again, he loved it! It was a cold morning here in Charlotte, so he had to wear some sweats that I pulled out from storage that were his cousin, Harry's and....again...he LOVED it! You could just tell that he felt SO cool. It took Caroline a little longer to get out of bed and feel the excitement, but once we showed up at the fields, she was ready. RoyBoy played first. He plays in a 3 year old league and it is the cutest thing to see those little boys kick balls all over the place!

Caroline plays in an older league and did very well, too....considering she's never played any sport. On the way to the game she even said, "I can throw a ball really well!". We quickly reminded her that soccer was played with feet:)

She was so sweet cheering her brother on while he played. He didn't care so much when she played. He was more into playing in the gravel and dirt. She even gave her team snack (a Dunkin' Donut hole) to him after he had his own team snack and started whining when he couldn't have any of her team's snack. I love this girl!

Both kids were thrilled to get their jerseys and soccer socks. Let's hear it for the Blue Whales and Team Brazil and for getting up and out the door early on Saturdays for the next two months!

I'll be singing Eye of the Tiger for the rest of the night! It's so great that they have a 3 year old league-boys (and girls too I suppose) that age NEED to run around and get some energy out! Enjoy your first soccer season...

Cute pictures! I'm laughing thinking about RA loving "eye of the tiger". You need to play that song every Sat morning to pump him up and get him all ready for his big game! haha! The kids both look so big! Miss you all
