2 Down (fingers crossed!!!), 1 to Go!!

This picture was taken when RoyBoy was around 20 months old. See me? I'm so happy, so optimistic. I have the Elmo potty book, Elmo potty seat, my trusty assistant by my side. I just knew that I'd have this boy potty trained in no time and everything would be fine in life. Sadly, I was a little mistaken.
This past summer when I was pregnant, my goal was to potty train RoyBoy by the time the baby arrived. He would be turning 3 in October, and he was ready (I thought). He could have cared less.
I tried EVERYTHING...
1. M&Ms: nope.
2. Offering to buy a new toy: not interested.
3. Buying cool undies with Buzz and Woody and Firetrucks on them: cool but again, Woody and Buzz are on Pull-ups, too.
So, I consulted my man, James Dobson, and he gave the advice that every mom who is struggling with potty training wants to hear, "your child will not go to kindergarten in diapers." Worked for me! So, we gave up. (Plus, I was getting a little tired of buying pull-ups and having false hope that it was for the last time.) RoyBoy seemed very content pooping and peeing in his pants, and let's admit it....diapers ARE easier! In December, when Roy Austin was 2 months past his 3rd birthday, I was changing a nasty diaper after he announced he had pooped. I played it up by saying, "Okay, baby RoyBoy. Let's change your diaper." to which he replied (with a little grin), "wahhh, wahhh". There he lay in front of me, this big three year old boy who was getting taller each week. That's when I knew. It was time! So, I told Roy that starting in January we were going to get hard core into potty training him. We didn't now how, and we knew it would be difficult, but we were done with this thing! (Our doctor even advised me to have him clean up his own mess when he made it...umm, no thank you.)
So, after much forcing, many threats, lots of "GOOD BOY's", "I'm so proud of you's", lots of handing outs of left over candy corn, a few Oreos, and sips of Sprite, I am hesitant to happily say that I think RoyBoy is quite possibly potty trained!!! Day trained, anyway. We've worn underwear for 3 days now and have had a few accidents, but he wears them proudly. Today he even came to get me to tell me that he had to go poop! This is MAJOR! I went and bought him jelly bellies for that one. Right now he is napping ...in underwear (yikes!)... so I'm hoping to find a dry boy and bed when he gets up soon. I do not enjoy having to change urine-soaked sheets and I do not enjoy having to wash urine soaked mattress pads even more. I whole-heartidly agree with the pros when they say boys are harder to train then girls. It took 3 years and 2.5 months, but I think we are there! YEA!

Good for you! I think he is right on target! I just looked back at my blog--Harry Jack was trained at exactly 3 years, 3 months. RA2 is going just fine! When it clicks, it clicks! Good for you.

That is SO encouraging! Aron will be 3 in April and I'm so frustrated! He just doesn't care at all. He tells me when he is pooping, while he is in the corner squatting and doing the deed! I've tried offering him cupcakes, candy, a new toy...everything. I guess I just have to wait it out!
Good for you and little Roy Boy!

Yippee! You only have to buy diapers for one again. My doctor suggested to me not to even think about potty training until Michael was 3 but everyone's different. Some earlier than other but I think he's right on target too. I bet he's really proud of himself too in his big boy underwear!

Good for you, Donna.....and good for Roy Austin, too. I think the worst is over. I'm sure he'll have some accidents, but he surely won't like messing his underwear, so things will only get better for you. Congratulations!!!

Boys always take longer to potty train, so you are right on track! I know when I was potty training Harrison, we would go to Barnes and Noble for story time and then he would play with the train table, I would be praying the whole time that he would not have an accident while we were there! Oh the joys of motherhood!

I am laughing! You gave such an awesome rendition of this whole process and it SOOOO reminded me of Miss Olivia. I didn't think we would ever get there and then you get mommy inferiority when all your friends have babies that potty trained at 18 months and Olivia is reading while wearing a diaper. I am crossing my fingers for you. Does he still call Charlotte, "Poopie"?
