Too Many "Clucks" in the Kitchen

Last week, the kids and I went to Virginia for a short visit while Roy was out of town. While we were there, my sisters (or "the Hens", as Roy calls us), got together for a Reber sister cookie bake off. When we get together, it is a guaranteed time of lots of laughing, talking, eating, being very crazy and the more laughing.

We were joined in the kitchen by our sixth "sister", Miss Mary Christmas. That is really her name. (her shirt says "Little Miss Christmas". VERY fitting!):

Someone brought her A-game and decided to make two cookie recipes...

...while someone (who does not enjoy baking) had to be coaxed to put the magazine down and get to work:

Some of us decided to try out a new recipe...

...which was a hit. While others stuck to their "old faithfuls":

Someone was allowed to skip her nap and watch the action taking place in the kitchen:

She was a good help to those who gladly welcomed it:

There was lots of mixing, stirring and rolling....

....lots of posing....

...and LOTS of cookies!!! Pecan bars, cranberry bars, nut balls, sugar cookies, molasses cookies, sugar nuts, gingerbread-butterscotch cookies, and two variety of peanut butter cookies. Yummy!

Leland was kind enough to be the judge of the bake off later that night after dinner. He didn't know which girl belonged to which cookie. But, his two favorite cookies were made by....

...this lucky girl!

---------------------------------------------------------

Late that night, Grandaddy returned from a trip. The next morning, there were three children who were very happy to see him. Charlotte was able to get in some good conversation time:

RoyBoy helped Grandaddy put out the train around the Christmas tree....

Caroline got in some snuggle time....

...and RoyBoy, some more tickle time.

It was a nice weekend.

Okay LOVED LOVED LOVED this post. It was fun remembering that whole day...rushing to get there by 10:00 only to find out the time had changed to 1:00...the sugar high...laughing...trying to get the ovens to work...rolling...feeling bloated from all the cookies...sneaking out to JCrew...and then the other JCrew...then Dindin at Dawn's... (yawn)...me tired last night! A totally FUN diddly day! Thanks for coming for a preChristmas visit Donna. It was another fun memory. See you in two weeks!!!!

Love you girls!

Leland is a lucky guy! If you ever decide to do the bake-off in Charlotte, I'll volunteer to be a judge.

Great post Donna and great quality pictures. That JF camera really works nice!
Where are all those cookies now? I bet mom has them stashed for her midnight snack. You didn't get any pictures of you of Dayna in there. Wahhhh! It's always fun having you home. Two more weeks and we'll do it again!

It was so good having you here for a few days while Roy is gone. The time went by really fast.....we were supposed to go to Cucci's if I remember. We'll have to do that when you come up for Christmas.

The cookie bake off was fun! We really have to make that another tradition each year. Thank you for all those great pictures. That camera of yours really takes good action shots. Thank you for a wonderful few days.....you're the family instigator!! See you again soon. ILY
