Clap, Clap, Clap....Francine Did it Again!

I love Francine Rivers. I don't think I've ever read anything of her that I didn't like. Some are better than others, but they're all good reads. So, I was very excited when my sister told me that she was reading Francine's latest book, Her Mother's Hope. I asked to be next in line to read it and I picked it up on my way to DC. Normally, Francine's books take a few chapters to get into, but this one had my attention by the first page. There is a suprising "twist" halfway through the book, and I didn't like it. But, I won't give it away....here is what I learned (most of it common sense!!)
-It's so important to communicate in marriage--share your thoughts, what you want, don't want, etc. Don't hide anything!
-It's important to be on the same team in marriage...there are no sides!!!
-It's SOOO important that children feel loved by their parents (mother in this case). I honestly do not understand mothers who have "favorite" or "favored" children. It makes me sad to think that mothers can do this to one of their children and give them a lifelong questioning of if their mother loves them like she does the other siblings. It's SO important to compliment, hug, encourage and treat our children EQUALLY!
(this is the main point that made me SO mad during the book. It actually made me angry!)
I wish I was in a book club so I could discuss the book with a group. I have to admit that my faves are still The Mark of the Lion trilogy that she she wrote, but still...Francine does not disappoint. It's a page turner for sure. And the best part is, part two comes out in the Fall! That will be good breastfeeding reading for me:)

Okay, you've just finished AND BLOGGED about this book and I'm on chapter 11 of VITW. Man! I need to get on it! Every time I read I get sleepy. Kind of like when I watch movies.
Anyhow, I can't wait to read this book. Good review and good points you mentioned.

I'm going to start reading it this weekend at the pool! Donna, you need to be a book critic. I'll bet you got all A's on your book reports in high school! :)

ps - I've got a GREAT book for you to criticize too..wink, wink!

I have tried to leave a comment twice today and blogger is not letting me!!!! Let's see if this works!

Wasn't it a great book! I know what you mean about wanting to be in a book club with this book. I was thinking the same thing. Did you see the discussion questions at the end of the book?

Great post Donna and great insight on what you learned. It was interesting how Francine brought these marriage problems to life! She made them real! And it makes you want to reach in the book and shake the characters!!!!

I am so glad you liked the book. Mom wants to read it next.
