Talent Show 2009 (Post 2 of 3)

On Wednesday night our annual family talent show got underway. All the practicing was finished, props and accessories were laid out and everyone took their seats:

Dolly had a little pre-show jitters. It's natural to be a little nervous:

The first game we played was a timed game to see who knew all the birthdays in the family. Denise won. (Yes, Roy has a mustache. It was for his talent).

The second game was a Moonwalk dance-off to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. Dawn, Daddy, Leland, Juette and Roy were the contestants and Leland won!

First up for the Talent Show was Harry Jack who had us all bent over laughing at his breakdance. It was SO funny and his facial expressions were the best part. This boy has no stage fright!

Second on the list was Dawn, who did a really creative mime routine. The kids LOVED it! Lynchburgers, if you need some entertainment for your children's parties, maybe she'll do it?

Denise and Dr. Dan performed Jeepers Creepers for our family:

Dolly and I performed Sisters (from the movie White Christmas). The blue fans were a nice touch and we had some great choreography! "Sisters, sisters....never were there such devoted sisters....."

The Renalds family did a hilarious skit that Grayson wrote. It was so cute and funny! (Dayna and Juette were the arms of Janna and Grayson and big Juette and Wyatt were the girls' "dates").

Roy and Caroline performed Roy's rendition of a family inside joke. Trust me, it was funny! I'm laughing as I type this:

Mom and Daddy performed Tiptoe Through the Tulips with a new instrument Daddy recently brought her from Vietnam. I forgot what the instrument is called, but Mom played the tune while Daddy sang it. Daddy even parted his hair down the middle and buttoned his shirt up all the way for special effect:

Maddie and Danny performed a belly dance. They even made their own costumes:

And Leland actually had the audacity to tell me at dinner the night of the talent show that he didn't have a talent. WHAT?! He knows the rules. I told him he better think fast because that was not an option. His talent of drinking and orange Crush in 6 seconds left everyone speechless and amazed:

And just when we thought the show was wrapping up, Denise had a special honorary talent she wanted to perform. It was her rendition of a big family inside joke from this year's vacation. Let's just say that everyone was laughing so hard that tears were being shed. Oh, and she won the trophy this year!

The kids were so hyper afterwards, they all danced to Miley Cyrus' Hoedown Throwdown (I think that's what it's called??). Caroline thought she was so cool copying the big girls:

Like I said, the kids were hyper:

Sweet Caroline:

She wanted to do the Sisters act with Auntie Dolly. I think she watched me practice a little too many times. She knows the whole routine by heart--all the words and all the moves.

I have to say that I was impressed with everyone's talent this year. Preparation was definitely taken into major consideration (except maybe for Leland) and it was one of the best years yet!

Donna, how DO you do it? Seriously, two posts after only being back from the beach a day? You make me feel really lousy. :) What a fun time you guys had and I would give my right arm to see that talent show...what a hoot!

Very important question...is your hair blonder? It looks really good! Did you use Sun-In at the beach? :)

Can't wait to see post #3!!!

I am laughing so hard at Lelands talent. Looks like such a fun time with the entire family. Those will be such great memories for all the kids.

I would give anything to see video footage of the talent show. Seems like there are alot of "inside jokes" for the talents.

Maybe Dawn could partner up with Teddy Spaghetti for all the different childrens events in town??

Wonderful recap of a really memorable night. We had such a good time. Donna, if it weren't for you making everyone turn to and get a talent going, the week wouldn't nearly be as fun as it was. We laughed and laughed and had soooo much fun! Your pre-games and prizes and your BIG INTRODUCTION to the evening was really something, as well. I hope we can get the videos consolidated so everything is on one cd....and then get a copy to all the families.

You're really a special person, Donna. I'm proud of you, and I love you for doing all the really neat things you do. Keep it up!!!

Donna, your hair looks long, it looks great! You look really young. (not that you looked old)

Great recap. I know you guys had a blast. Way to go, Reber family, for being such great sports and participating in such a memorable activity. The kids will have so many fond memories of this activity.

And Jenius.....I'm impressed with the international musical ability you possess.

WELCOME HOME! Love the post about the talent show and congrats to Denise on taking home the coveted trophy. The talents sound amazing and I think next year should be put on you tube.

It sounds like a great time away!

This would make the most entertaining tv show. I can just see it...Reber Reality TV.

You and Dolly look adorable in your get-up with your fans. And, yes, your hair is longer...growing it out??

Dawn looks like a professional!

Nikki, I'm howling at the Teddy Spaghetti comment! Thank goodness this is a private blog. I've got a story about that one, but I can't share it on Crumbs...

There are some serious beauty genes in your family. Your mom, all of you girls and all of your kids are gorgeous. Seriously! Did you manage to get a HUGE family picture of everyone?

Oh, and yes, it's Hoedown Throwdown. I taught that to some choir kids this year. Yes, I'm a 31 year old woman who knows the Hoedown Throwdown.

"Pop it, lock it, polka-dot it, country-fy, then hip hop it, put your hawk in the sky, move side to side, jump to the left, stick it...slide..."

Needless to say, I would have been right smack in the middle of all the kids having a ball!

You go, Angela! I can just see you in the middle of all those children doing that dance. We have pictures of you...and other girls dancing at Dolly's bridal shower. Remember that? You've really got the moves!!!!

This is going to sound cheesy but I don't care.....it makes my heart happy to see this! I love it when families make it a point to spend time together every year and with the Reber family being so big I know that it's not an easy task. Y'all have too much fun together! All of the pics from the talent show are great as well as the other vaca pics. Love yours and Dolly's dresses that you wore in your talent! FUN TIMES!
