The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

It's getting to be that time of the year again. School is starting, schedules are getting back to normal, you can feel the crisp air about to settle in for Fall time....and....it's getting to be.... CONSIGNMENT SALE TIME AGAIN IN CHARLOTTE, NC!!!!!
Every Fall and Spring my heart beats a little faster, my hands get a little sweatier and my sleep starts to get interrupted with the thought of me waiting in line with my laundry basket, just waiting to break through the doors to the sales.
This next month, I will volunteer and sell some stuff at the Matthews United Methodist Consignment Sale. This sale is legendary in this area. People literally wait in line for hours to get in. This is the place to get your ordinary, everyday wear and toys and odds and ends for the kids. If you volunteer, you get in early, which I do, and I get a free buddy pass. Anyone interested? By the way, this sale happens to fall on the same weekend Roy's dad is having a festival in Charleston. Uh-oh! I can't miss this sale! I've been going for years! I asked Roy if we could be a day late to the festival and leave after the preview sale, pronto! Fingers crossed.
The next big sale will be on the last weekend of September. It's the Divine Consign sale and this one makes my fingers type a little faster just thinking about it. This is the sale where I get my matchy-matchies for my children and where a lot of Caroline's famous smocks come from. Oh, it's great! I'm selling at this sale AND I'm working two shifts to be invited to the Early, EARLY sale (yes, that's 2 earlies). What I'll do to dress my children in pure cuteness.

So here is a picture of my upstairs guest room. I am currently going through boxes of my kids' clothes and hand-me-downs from Harrison Jack. I am selling stuff for Denise at these sales too. Oh, and I'm shopping for Harry, Margaux, Baby Logan, and Lil' Mike at these sales. Dayna, if you want me to get anything for yours, let me know what you're looking for, but I know your mother-in-law is a shameless buyer for your kids:) Am I a good auntie or what?

I have many piles all over the room: a pile for Caroline this year, a pile for Roy Austin this year, a pile to be passed down to Margaux, a pile to be labeled for sale, a pile that needs to be hung. And Nancy, your eyes are not deceiving you...that IS a Cracker Barrel bag on the bed. Don't be jealous.

I need to get this room in spit-spot shape, as Mary Poppins would say, by next Friday when we get a house full of company. Good thing preschool starts next week:)

Ooooh - is that a baby papasan chair I see in the reject pile? Is it for sale? :) (shameless, I know..)

Be still my beating heart! When I saw the CB bag I got so excited.

You are so good to get the scoop on the consignment sale. Does the Matthews Methodist sale thru size 6? If so, I'd LOVE to go with you!!

Kristin, I debated whether to sell the Papasan chair or not. I almost did, but when we have babies visit our house (which is quite frequently) it's good to have something to put them in.

Nancy, I think they sell thru size 10 and then they have a teen room.

Donna - OK, ok. Force me to pay retail :( (It makes me a little queasy to think about buying something like that from the consignment sale - I want to know who used it, you know?)

Nancy - I shop the MUMC sale for my neice who wears a 6. It's hit or miss, but I've gotten her some Talbots, Hartstrings, Gymboree, etc stuff in perfect condition. Worth a try!

Aw, man. I just emailed you about the BP (buddy pass). Speaking of Buddy, I'm gonna post your very own Buddy the Elf shortly. LOL.

You ARE a good sissy for shopping for me. I would love to go to this with you but I'm thinking maybe for the Spring sale. You just let me know how much I owe you after you do your serious shopping!

Sounds like fun! Atlanta's got some great consignment sales, too! Have you been to thebagainwatcher.com? It lists tons of sales. :o) I went to one last year that sounds like the ones you go too. This is serious business!

Oh, yes!! I just volunteered at a consignment sale here in Richmond last weekend and was privvy to the preview sale! I LOVE getting "first dibs" on a good sale! They are having another HUGE one here in Richmond on Sept. 20th, then another one in November that will feature only toys and Christmas items!

Thank you Donna for the thought regarding my children. I do have a wonderful mother in law who buys things consistently for my children. They don't lack for anything. I finally got our MOPS group to do this kind of sale! I am going to be cleaning out my closets too. We are trying to have it in the middle of October. Have fun shopping. See you in a few days!

Donna, if you see any John-Johns (sp?) for Max in a size 5 then let me know...you don't think 5 years old is too big for those, do you??? :) Don would have divorce papers delivered to me immediately...no girl clothes for his football lovin' boy!

Donna said...

Jennifer! I thought you were serious there for a second!!! I had to re-read that to make sure you weren't. I have never seen Max in person, but I would laugh if I saw him in John-johns:)

Oh! I can't believe I am going to miss this sale!! This is the best one too! We will be out of town :(...

Yes, the thought of Max and his daddy long legs in john johns is quite funny...quite disturbing too. I did know a girl who put her son in those until he was like 7. We would always talk about whether her husband just didn't care or if she just ruled the roost, if you know what I mean. But, to each their own...

JFTB--I am so glad that you are joking about Max in John Johns!!!!!! I was going to have to set you straight!

I too am so excited about the Divign Consign sale!! I always rack up at these for Sarah. Me very excited:)

Kristi Smalley said...

OK, call me stupid but what are "john-johns?"

Donna, you must love to organize as much as I do! But my guess is that you're much more efficient than I am. That's impressive. Still playing catch-up with blogging, but glad to know all is well at the Graham household!

Kristi, John Johns are like little romper/jumper/nicker/shorts for boys. Go to HPS's blog. She is sa post on Roy Boy on Thursday or Friday and Roy is wearing one in the picture.

Hi Donna,
My husband and I just found out that we are expecting our first child in April. Do you know if they have a sale in the spring time? We would love to go. It sounds fun!!!

Donna, I wish I lived closer to sales like those. I would be one of the girls in lines for hours! Florida definitely is lacking in nice children clothes. We need more smocking down here!!!

You girls are funny!
Amy, Congratulations! That's great about your news. There are sales in the spring, too, but I wouldn't be suprised if they had them where you live. I didn't hear about these sales until I got pregnant/had my kids. Before kids, you don't pay attention to these kinds of things. Just check with various churches/mom's groups around where you live.
