My Sunday Morning
This morning I woke up extra early to take my shower and wash my hair so I could get the kids up, fed and out the door for church by 8:00 for the early service. I was doing great, Roy Austin was up, dressed, and fed. I got Caroline up and dressed, got a breakfast bar to go for her to eat in the car, I got my check book out to write our tithe and then I looked over and saw it. My son had knocked over the pail of dirty water I had mopped the floor with last night. I knew I should have emptied it and I honestly don't know why I didn't. I dropped my pen and ran over hoping that he wasn't sitting in water, but found that yes, he was sitting in a huge puddle and was soaking wet. Meanwhile, water was quickly moving onto the dining room and back entryway floors. Oh, I was so mad. It always seems to happen on Sunday mornings. You have the best intentions of getting to church on time and something always seems to mess it up...an argument with your husband, a poopy blowout diaper, a whiny temperamental child, a bucket of water being spilled. I picked Roy Austin up and took him out of the mess. I asked Caroline to go grab me a new outfit and diaper for her brother as I squatted down and started to clean up the water as my son kept crawling back over into the water over and over again. I was so stressed out by the time she came back that I just stopped and screamed! I did! She looked at me like I was crazy and then I started laughing and told her that Mommy was just a little frustrated. So, I cleaned all of the water up, changed Roy Austin and out the door we went, only 5 minutes late and very hot in my pant suit (I didn't have time to change). As we were leaving the neighborhood, Caroline said in her sweet little voice "Mommy, we're going to Carmel Baptist". I agreed, and then she said the phrase I've been teaching her all on her own, "Jesus is risen, He's risen indeed". It brought a huge smile to my face and changed my whole perspective on the day.

Good for you ,Donna, for still going to church! I think the devil will do anything on Sunday morning to keep us from worshipping.
I know you'll be so happy to see Roy tomorrow!
I love your stories, Donna! I know, it's funny when it's not me...right?
Thanks for your honesty today. I think you have been amazing while your hubby has been overseas. You must be physically tired and I think it is great that you went to church after the event this a.m. and could find yourself laughing about it.
Praying for Roy's flight home and for a sweet reunion.
lol Sunday mornings are always crazy in our house. Way to go Caroline!! Jesus has risen indeed!
Wow, I have been gone for a week and you are on a blogging role!
Yes Sundays never seem to go smoothly! I can just picture RA now sitting in dirty water just with a sweet smile on him!
Donna, that's what you get for mopping on a Saturday night! Just kidding. I would have been SO mad and would probably have screamed too!
Way to go Caroline for putting it all back in perspective. Way to be true to the Graham family heritage. Ha!
I'm sorry you had a bad morning. You need to add THIS to the laugh jar because it is a great story. Your husband will enjoy this. Why do things like that happen when you are going to church. If you had done that on a Wednesday afternoon when you had to be nowhere, RA would have just crawled around the bucket. Did you use some Certain Dri on the way out the door?
Laughing at the Certin Dry comment! (Someone was paying attention to that post.)
Donna, why are we teaching Jesus has risen, risen indeed in mid summer? I mean, I totally agree, but I seriously had to think for a moment--is it Easter---is it about to be Easter??? It is so hot down here, all the months run together and sometimes I have to recheck the date.
Denise,
A few nights ago during devotions, we were on the resurection story. So I taught her that phrase. Each night following, I would ask her to say it. Hey, we gotta get that girl saved!!!
Laughing at Denise's comment. Sounds like a frustrating morning but good thing Roy is coming home TODAY!!! I know you are so excited. That Carol, she's something else.
Sweet Caroline...keeping life in perspective...she's such a wise soul.
But, I might add, who mops on a Saturday night??? Donna, Donna, Donna...are you bound and determined to make me feel guilty about being a bad wife and mom?? First the coupon thing and now mopping. What's next...are you going to talk about cooking dinner for your family??? :)
Speaking of coupons, I dove into the Sunday paper yesterday looking for the coupons. But, I felt like I didn't find any that I would really use. I'm thinking you have to collect them for awhile so you can get ones you actually will use. You've motivated me!!!!
thanks so much for the invite to your blog.
i totally agree...things like this only happen on sunday mornings!
Jennifer and others, I went to Wal-Mart and got this magazine at the check out counter called "All YOu". It was $1.97 and it is FULL of coupons. It paid for itself within the first 5-6 pages. That's a good place to get coupons. Also, when you use coupons, most of the time you can use it on any item the brand on the coupon makes. For example, all Huggies coupons work on any Huggies item, Nabisco coupons work on any Nabisco item. Just a 411.
Sorry for your morning. I so understand it though. I just finished reading your FIL's book and have to say I so admire you Donna for being a single mom so often so Roy can go all of the world. His book really made me think about you and your being home with the kids so much. I said a few prayers for you while reading his book which has taken me 2 weeks to finish. You are great at it and are really an inspiration to me as my husband's busy time is starting. You seem to always have such a good attitude about it and make it fun for your kids too. Anyway, kinda weird coming from someone who hardly knows you, but GREAT job Donna. Hope you have a sweet time with all your family together tonight.
This definitely needs to go into the laugh jar! What a morning! Glad that y'all still were able to make it to the early service and hope that the rest of your day was better.
