Isn't that nasty? Oh, man. I hope I don't have nightmares tonight. I tell you..I HATE SNAKES! The weird and ironic thing is, today some friends and I were talking about snakes being in backyards. I didn't expect to find one today in ours!! Does anyone know what kind of snake this is? After doing some research and googling tonight, I'm thinking it's a rat snake? The internet site told me that these snakes have a way of getting into buildings. Huh? Now, I will admit that I was proud of Maggie for finding this horrendous thing today. But now I'm wondering if the snake thought our pup was a rat?

Sweet Dreams!
Indiana Jones and I have something in common---we HATE snakes! I detest them! Just seeing a picture of one gives me the willies. This afternoon we came home from running errands and I took Maggie outside to go potty. Caroline ran in the backyard to play and I sat on the porch steps to feed Roy Austin a bottle. I noticed Maggie sniffing and suddenly her ears raised up and her front paw went up in the air. I look down and in the grass right next to the patio was a SNAKE. (I'm getting the chills just writing this and I just did a body shiver). The snake had it's head raised slightly and it was starring at my dog. I told Caroline to get into the house immediately and I took the baby in. As I walked into the house, I turned around and saw it slithering through the grass (another body shiver). I went to get my camera so I could show Roy when he got home. This is what I got. Please note that it was much bigger in real life:

AMEN SISTER, I AGREE! I couldn't look at the picture you posted, I hate them so much. No wonder Satan posed as a snake because no other animal could be horrific enough to embody the devil.
Oh YUCK!!! Snakes are the ONLY things I can't stand either. I'm always looking for them when I'm outside. Remember when we just moved into our house and Daddy found one in our bedroom? I know they're all over out here, and I suppose I'll see one very soon now that you've posted about yours. I was just telling Dayna yesterday....or was it you....that I have to get a couple cats out here to keep the critters away, now that Tux is gone. Anyway, I guess maybe Maggie has redeemed herself for finding that snake, huh? Good for her!! I think I'll look for some kitties today.
Good dog, Maggie. Maybe I need a dog or some cats to keep this place clear. I could hardly look at your picture - and did a body shiver myself when I read your post. You are very brave to do the google research - whenever I need to figure out what some kind of bug is - Bruce has to look at all the pictures - I can't handle it. I know I couldn't look at sn... pictures. I usually can't even say the word - so I just say sn to Bruce. Yuck.
You are kidding me! YUCK! That's really not a big one though but still, a snake is a snake. Now you know why I have 2 cats. I'm not a cat fan at all but I love them when all these snake pictures start coming out. So far I haven't seen any here but I'm constantly on the look out.
I hate them too...the boys want to get one as a pet and I have squashed their dreams. Next time you see mom have her tell you the story of the snakes in the house. That is right snake"s", meaning multiple. Thank God for our cat who would hiss and let us know where they were so we could call someone to get these 4+ feet black snakes...It was really gross. Thank goodness I was on the 2nd floor.
We found a garder snake by our front sidewalk last week too. The were "freaked out" as it was the first real snake they had seen up close. I was able to use it as a good object lesson as to why the Bible is true. We talked about the curse that God put on satan and the enmity between the snake and man. Grayson said "Hey, that's right. I didn't even have to think about screaming. I just did!" It really hit home to all of them.
Yikes! Sorry Donna. Did you ever find out what kind it was?
When we returned home from VA there was a nice long piece of snake skin (a shed skin) by my pool pump in our back yard. Yum!
I think it was a garter snake. I typed that into google and the exact picture of the one I took showed up. I let Maggie search the back yard this morning before we went out and played. Maggie is coming to our rescue, so I forgave her for yesterday's poop fest.
When you told me about it, I pictured a black garden snake but that sucker has a stripe down his back. He looks a little more scary that your typical ole garden snake. Carol better be careful going barefooted!!!
From "bad dog" to "hero dog"....Maggie is out of the dog house today. Poor snake...I am sure it was more terrified of you and Maggie. By the way they eat mice and moles and stuff.....love you
