Home Alone

Roy just pulled out of the driveway a little while ago for his long trip to Alaska. He was excited to go but sad that we will not be with him. He has about a 15 hour drive ahead of him today and tomorrow and then he'll meet his friend in Utah to drive the rest of the way with him. I hate that he has to be gone for so long, but he needs this and loves doing stuff like this. Seriously, you have not seen the real Roy Graham until you have seen him in Alaska! The boy comes to life! So although I am sad that he will be away for so long, I am happy that he will get his fill of adventure--hopefully enough to last him a long while!!

So basically Caroline and I will be a lonely party of 2 for the next TWO WEEKS! What?!! Yeah... that's a two year old and me... 24 hours a day for two whole weeks. I try not to think about the length of time or I go crazy. Instead I'm trying to think of fun things that we can do. Charlotte friends: are you ready for some serious play dates?!

I have to admit that when Roy goes out of town, the first day or two is a lot of fun. There is no schedule, we get into our pajamas at 5:30 or 6:00, I usually make waffles or pancakes and we watch a movie. Oh yeah, and the computer that Roy is always telling me to get off of, is mine.....all mine (imagine me throwing my head back in crazy laughter while rubbing my hands together)!! I am not addicted, I just like to check e-mails, blogs and Ebay! Roy thinks I'm addicted.

Anyway, I do have some things I would like to accomplish while I experience single-parenthood. I definitely want to paint our living room, foyer and upstairs hallway. Don't worry, I'm leaving the high parts for Roy to finish when he returns. I also found a cute growth chart to make for Caroline's playroom in the Lowe's Do It Yourself magazine, and I am going to paint a canvas of Caroline's monogram for her big girl room she will soon move into. I will post before and after shots later. I am also going to get more diligent on this potty training thing. Diapers really are so easy, but she is starting to show discomfort when she potties in them. The other day we were walking through the kids section of Target and she spotted some Princess panties and you would have thought she saw Cinderella herself standing in the aisle. She was amazed that such things were even made! I tried to explain the whole big girl thing to her but I don't think she got it. Maybe now is the time for some princess panties. I also use the time Roy's away to catch up on my ironing, as I have been known to throw my own "ironing party" and spend an entire day ironing while I watch TV. Don't be jealous, I know my life is so desirable.

Seriously though, please keep Roy in your prayers this next week as he drives non-stop. Today and tomorrow he'll be alone and then he'll meet up with his friend on Sunday. I'll feel better when he's with someone:) Pray for Caroline and me, too!! I will leave you with a picture of Roy as he was packing up the suburban last night. Does he look happy or what?

I know you're sad to say goodbye for Roy but it's good you're using this time to get things done while he's gone. We'll be praying for his safety and for your sanity! Maybe I can come down for a few days next week and keep you some company. We'll see!

I would LOVE it! Have Leland come, too. You can take him to Gaffney then:)
