Apparently We Are Crazy...

Well, my lists were getting checked off more and more each day. Today's big event was my doctor's appointment. Luckily I had Roy meet us there, because he wanted to see this particular doctor (another story for another day!!). Anyway, on the way out of the appointment, I mentioned that we were doing this trip and wanted to know if he had any advice. He looked at me like I was joking and then went on to advise against driving the whole way! I kind of laughed out of disbelief! We've been planning this trip for so long!! He said that pregnancy can seriously increase the chances for blood clots in the legs, etc. He advised that I either fly out to meet Roy more than half way through the journey, fly to Alaska and meet him there, or cancel the trip altogether! WHAT?!

After my check-up, he asked if I'd been experiencing any contractions, to which I replied that I'd had minor Braxton Hicks contractions every once in a while. Well, that inspired him to perform a quick ultrasound to make sure everything was okay! Basically he ended the appointment my advising me and Caroline to fly out to meet Roy somewhere more than halfway and if/when we do drive in the car, stop every hour and walk. Also, I have to take a baby aspirin every day to reduce swelling. So, now I'm slightly worried about having these contractions and of course my mind is thinking the worse. I'm so glad that Roy came along to the appointment, though. He thought I was being dramatic about "having contractions" and if I would have called him and told him Dr. Gourley's advice, he would have thought I was joking or that I told him to say that! Regardless, we both agree that this baby's health is the most important thing. If anything were to happen, we would never forgive ourselves. I am glad that we saw Dr. Gourley today, even if it did throw a kink in our plans.

So, it looks like Roy will be doing a lot of the driving on his own and then Caroline and I will fly out to meet him somewhere next weekend and then resume our trip through Canada. I feel so badly for him, but he's done it twice before. This wasn't our original plan, but it is obviously the right plan for us and it was providential that we went to the doctor today. I keep reminding my "glass is half empty" husband of this! It will all work out!

Oh yeah, and the icing on the cake was when Caroline and I pulled into the garage to come home: I went to let her out of her car seat only to have her throw up--no more like spew--everything she had eaten in the last 24 hours all over my car. It literally was like the exorcist. She did this three times and it went everywhere. I let her out of her nasty car seat just in time for her to do some more on the garage floor. We both just stood there frozen and in shock and then I stripped her and put her right into the tub. I don't know what was wrong with her--maybe it was the chicken she had for lunch? Anyway, she's feeling much better and napping now. I have to go clean the garage now:(
