Party, Birdie Style

Back in August I realized that Charlotte's first birthday was fast approaching. I like to do small family parties in our family, but I like to do a big one for the "Big One". I did a big party for Caroline and Roy Austin when they turned one, but Charlotte really has no "friends" her age. I told Roy that I felt that I had to do something so we don't get the "poor me card" thrown at us from her one day, so we decided Roy would get out his smoker and do barbecue and I'd send an email to our families inviting anyone who wanted to come to our little celebration for Charlotte. Well, 23 people later....our little celebration turned into her party yesterday afternoon! I still can't believe she's one!

Thank you, Auntie Dolly, for being my photographer yesterday, by the way. Because she's so tiny and dainty, I did a bird theme for the party. Pinterest helped inspire me! Caramel corn makes an EASY and yummy party favor and it was a good way for Charlotte to thank everyone for coming to her first "bird-day"!

These four sisters of mine and their families made the 3.5 hour drive down just for the day! I was shocked and very appreciative:) Nothing like sisters!!

Michael and Roy Austin had fun playing. Roy Austin figured out how to connect the wagon to the John Deer trike and he was giving hay rides on his "trailer":
Here are some brothers-in-law talking over some ribs:

Some of the others stayed inside. Jane, my mother-in-law refused to get any pictures taken, but she's in the far left corner holding the birthday girl!! Jane also brought along our niece, Rachel. It was so good to have them there, too!

Here are our teenage nieces, Grayson and Maddie with little Margaux (who is four but might as well be a teenager!!). I have absolutely loved watching these girls grow into beautiful young ladies:

And here is Grammy with our football obsessed nephews Danny and Juette and my niece, Janna. 11 year old boys crack me up!!!:

My birdie cake...again, thank you Pinterest! It was a coconut-lime cake and it needs to get out of my house now because the leftovers are getting to me!!!!

Time for cake!! This was her first dessert and I think she was wondering why 27 people were looking at her and clapping and singing with cameras in their hands:)

She liked it! As Dolly said, her nostrils were flaring after that first initial finger lick!

Sweet Grandaddy helped her eat her cake!

Present time! I think Charlotte's siblings and cousins liked this part the most. The presents were opened within 2 minutes and there was paper and chaos everywhere!

I loved having a house full of family and the cousings playing together. It was a special, special day!

This boy had a FULL day. He was exhausted by bed time and we didn't hear a peep from him once he was down. I was exhasted, too, and was asleep by 8:45!

Thanks to all of you who made the drive for Charlotte of Charlotte's First Birthday party! She may not realize how many people love her but we do and we love you ALL, too!

Aww, looks like a wonderful party. Charlotte is so pretty. I am sure you must hear this all the time but those eyes of hers are beautiful. The coconut lime cake also sounds nice. I would have never thought of that!

Donna, I finally found out today what Pinterest was! I'm so behind on all of these things. I thought it was the name of the bakery who made that beautiful cake for Charlotte's first bday. You did a wonderful job and remember, next time you have leftover cake like that - you can definitely give it to Roy to bring into the office!! :)
