The Birthday Fairy made another trip to our home on Tuesday morning. Roy, Caroline and I went into RoyBoy's room singing "Happy Birthday" and woke him up. He wasn't thrilled, but when he saw the balloons, he piped up:

Caroline, Charlotte and I brought cookies and juice to Roy Austin's class. He was so excited when we came in and I could tell he was one proud boy:

I wanted to give him a Harris Teeter birthday party because he loves the store so much, but for the past few weeks he had been saying he wanted a "choo-choo" cake. He loves trains and The Polar Express, so a choo-choo cake it was! When he woke up from his nap and saw the cake, his eyes got huge and he was so happy! It made me happy:) And let me just say that Mama was tired when she frosted this cake. It took forever to decorate and my hand was throbbing afterwards!!! Don't laugh at the color choices....I didn't check with my food coloring colors before I started frosting!!

There is something just sweet about having a family birthday party. It's small, quiet and just.....sweet! Here he is listening to why we love him:

He loved opening all his gifts. But, there was a certain 5 year old who was manipulating him into letting her help him open the gifts AND play with them right away. He loved his Geo-Trax train set and his Fireman outfit:

I still can't believe he is three! I can't wait to see how much he grows this year and what funny things he does and says:)

Donna, lookie there at your COOL cake! That did take a lot of time! It looks great!
I love your bday tradition too, of the balloons. Very special! You've got one cutie for a 3 year old!
I'm laughing about his present-opening assistant! We had one of those a few weeks ago at Bobby's birthday party. You've got to love big sisters!
The train cake is adorable!
Your cake is absolutely beautiful. Both Daddy and I wish we had a piece right now!! Donna, I'm so glad you are forming traditions with your family....ones that they will remember when they grow up. Looks like Roy Boy had a great birthday...all day long. And what a special thing that Miss Caroline made that wonderful decision on that day, as well. Something she will remember all her life. Thanks for the post and the beautiful pictures.
No wonder you hand was tired.....what a cute cake! I know he loved it! I wish I had been there for the party. Sweet time.....You have started some sweet traditions in your home.....sweet memories!
Love you all.....
What a great birthday! I think 3 years old it when you start having vivid memories so he'll probably always remember this bday. I love the picture of him in his class and the one of you all telling him what you love about him. He was just soaking it all in. So sweet! And Donna, I don't know how in the world you did that cake. AMAZING!!! You're a good mommy and by the way, you look GREAT for just having a newborn. ILY
Don't know how you do it, Donna! That cake is AMAZING! New baby, birthdays, blogging...you're putting the rest of us to shame! I like family birthdays too. Its small with our family of 4, but special. do you have to buy store bought treats for school up there? Our schools don't allow homemade goodies. No fun!
Are you kidding me??? That cake is unbelievable! Donna, are you seriously trying to make me feel like a bad mom since I just called someone about making Max's bday cake??? :)
Love the pictures of RA in his classroom. I love to see little kids sitting at the little tables...so cute.
Glad he had a great birthday!
Donna, how in the world did you have time to make that cake???? Is Charlotte hungry? You did a great job!!! Little RA is so sweet. I can't believe he is three already. You could tell he was just eating up the attention.
Angela, YES! Our preschool has the same rule---only store bought party foods due to various allergies and concerns for unclean kitchens at home?! What?! I hate it because I can't make cute cupcakes, but I have to say it's so much easier to run to Harris Teeter and buy cookies:)
Donna, that cake looks delicious! I would love one just like it - seriously! What a fun time!
