Applause, Please!

Sunday was a special day in our house--Caroline had her first piano recital! Roy and I were both so excited to see what she would do and we were so nervous, too. I think it was because I STILL to this day have nightmares some nights that I show up at my piano recital and don't know the piece I'm supposed to play. Something used to happen to my brain when I would sit at the piano bench for a recital. It was as if my brain shut off and I didn't remember anything!!

As we entered the recital hall and she was shown to her seat, I wanted to cry for her! She looked so tiny sitting with all the other kids, she looked so nervous...and she was first to go on! She walked up on that stage with confidence, bowed, and then started playing a totally different song then she was supposed to play. She finally started playing "Cuckoo" and got through it---slowly. We were so proud of her! I thought for sure when she realized she was playing the wrong song, she would have started crying and would stop playing. But she didn't, and she made our hearts smile:)

Nana was so sweet to come to her recital. Caroline was so happy she was here. When she left to go back to Boone, we had a sad, crying girl in the back seat:(

I told Caroline the best part of a recital is the reception afterwards! She loved it! Maddie was here this weekend visiting, so she was able to come and this made Caroline extra happy! (by the way, Maddie was the BEST help this weekend!!)

Here is a picture of Caroline and her piano teacher, Mrs. Harris. She is so sweet and patient with Caroline. There have been times in her lessons that I would have wanted to scream if I were the teacher, but Mrs. Harris is so patient:)

Caroline and two very proud parents:

Let's just hope that she continues to like piano. I used to absolutely D-R-E-A-D my piano lessons and recitals! Looking back, I so wish I would have studied better and tried my hardest:( Fingers crossed, Caroline does!

Oh my word, if that is not the cutest thing ever! I seriously cannot believe, at her age, that she didn't start crying when she was playing the wrong song...I sure would have. She looked absolutely adorable!

Donna, kudos to you for having her in piano lessons because I know that has to require a lot of time for you too. It's not like at this age you can just tell her to go practice...I'm sure you have to sit down with her, right?

I too can remember the horror of piano recitals...I'd rather birth more babies than have to do that again!

By the way, are you impressed with my blogging skills lately? I'm trying to get back into it...we'll see.

hahaha, Jennifer would rather birth more babies than do a piano recital!

I actually got that nervous feeling for Caroline as I was reading about her recital experience. Such a scary feeling when everything is quiet and they call your name. It's like your name echos through the room as everyone watches you walk up to the piano. I'm so happy she did well and she looks SO HAPPY in those pictures. She's going to do great.

I agree with Jennifer...kudos to you Donna! I'm not sure if I would have the patience to sit with my child like that and make them practice. Keep it up!

Donna, BLESS HER HEART! I just downloaded the video and watched it. It was good that her teacher let her play a little of "Mississippi hot dog" before she told her to play her other song. I loved her bowe at the beginning and end. She's so cute!

Wow! Great job Caroline! I don't think I took a breath until after she took her final bow! What is it with the dread and nervous feelings that flood us all when you mention recitals?!

How cute!!!! I feel honored that I got to hear her first recital via blog. Now, if she becomes the next Liberace, I can remember when!!!

She looked so cute. Talk about keeping her cool. If you hadn't said anything, I would not have known that she played two songs. She did great and was so cute bowing.

I loved the pictures of the family, especially the one of you 3. That's a framer.

Just read your blog. Caroline did a wonderful job on her song! Yes, I remember those days too. Wish I would have kept with it - completely stopped playing when I went to college.

We're all so proud of Caroline.....and she looked like she was really proud of herself in those beautiful pictures, too. She looks soooo happy. I'm really sorry we couldn't have been there, but am really glad you got the video of her whole performance. I bet she was the only student who played two pieces!!! Good for her!!!

Caroline is darling! She does look so tiny compared to that big piano seat and piano! I'm surprised the audience didn't give her a standing ovation!!!

Adorable. Hannah is saying More Caroline at the moment and loved watching that. She did a great job. I'm hoping Hannah's interest in the piano remains until she is old enough to play.

ADORABLE! And, so calm, cool and collected! You won't have to worry about her not knowing how to handle a situation!

I agree with Jennifer...I would expect tears when she started playing the wrong song, but what a Big Girl! So precious!
Keep her going in the lessons, I can't tell you how many times Shae has said, "WHY didn't you MAKE me keep playing the piano!!"

I have been so bad at keeping up with the blogs lately. I just got all caught up with all your posts. I know I am REALLY LATE in saying this, but CONGRATS on the new baby on the way. How exciting!!!! I am so happy for you and your family.

So much to say on all the other posts...great b-day party for Caroline...laughing so hard at your family and especially Denise not noticing RA's big bro shirt...Caroline is so adorable playing the piano. Whew, I cant get this behind anymore.
