Ornament Swiper

2007 will be Caroline's third Christmas. Her first Christmas, she was 8 months old and was at the age where she could grab at things, yet she never touched our Christmas tree or the ornaments. I was so proud of her and happy that our tree and decorations didn't have to be "kid friendly" like I was dreading. Her second Christmas, she was 20 months old, walking and talking but, she never touched the tree or the ornaments. She obeyed us and just looked and we still had our usual decorated house for Christmas. Well, this year, she is 2 and a half and she thinks the tree is hers. Last night when we got home, she went and got the star basket I put my Christmas cards in and decided to go shopping through our house. When I called her for dinner, I emptied her basket of it's treasures and saw that more of my ornaments were broken. How nice. I have now resorted to moving most of them up the tree, leaving the bottom half of it bare and vulnerable...and very kid friendly looking:( We are now one of those families who have to be careful what we put in the sight of little hands. As a result, our house is not nearly as decorated for the season this year. I only took out half of the decorations!

Our tree with her naked bottom.

Remember the poor Rockette that had her foot removed during the process of decorating our tree? I found it. I'm guessing Caroline wanted her shoes to come off??

And here we have a trumpet that I found on the floor. What does it belong to? An ornament that my deceased grandmother gave me one year when I was little. It was an ornament of a drum with a bunch of little toys on top that I still can't locate.

Wait a second. Call me crazy, but there used to be an ornament hanging from this string. Where did it go?!

Here it is. I found it in her shopping basket. Because she pulled it off the string on the tree, the mobile on the ornament is nicely bent and the front right cradle leg is now straightened instead of curved like the others. This ornament commemorated our Christmas as "Parents To Be" in 2004. Who knew that our little blessing in my belly would eventually take a liking to it.

And this sweet little ornament symbolizes Caroline's 1st Christmas. She somehow managed to untie the red ribbon and it was also one of her "purchases" at last night's shopping spree. Luckily, it survived without being hurt.

In other Graham family news, our little Roy Austin (who is an angel, by the way!!) went to visit his pediatrician this morning--a blog post in itself, trust me--and weighed in at a whopping 11 pounds at 8 ounces! He's in the 90th percentile for his weight. He has now started to smile so much and "coos" at his Mommy non-stop. I'm in love:)

Donna, I'm shaking as I read this. You're such a good writer and this was a funny post to read. I love the picture of the string hanging from the tree. I guess from here on out you'll need to "childproof" everything...including TV.

And now you know why animal eat their young!!! She is an awfully cute swiper, I bet that is what saves her!
Also, thanks for the recipe, I am definitely going to use it!

Wow! 11 lbs! Go Roy Austin! Post some pics of your little man. I am anxious to see how he has grown! Sarah is Miss Personality lately. All smiles and now that she is sitting up so well, no more car seat to carry around everywhere I go! Thank the Lord! We went to Wal-Mart today and I just put her in the buggy (with the cover over top, of course).

Oh, how funny! Wait until she starts making ornaments and wants to hang THOSE on the Christmas tree! One time, Alex made one of those red/green paper chains and put it on the tree. She also made a poster one year and somehow managed to "shove" that in the tree as well!! Good times!

oh, by the way...tonight I found the drum ornament. It was under a blanket in Roy Austin's bouncy seat. I think she had given it to him to play with!!
