What I've Learned...so far

Roy Austin is now officially a week old and I cannot believe it! This week has literally flown by and it's been great. Being the mother of two--so far--isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Caroline was slightly off yesterday but we had to wake her up early to go to the doctor for her brother and she also got a flu shot so I think that really messed her up. She continues to love her brother and when she wakes up, she asks where he is right away! She still brings him toys (this morning it was her baby doll) and we let him lay down next to her in her bed at night when we read our Bible story. She loves it and it's so cute to see her hold his hand when we say our prayers! I'm just waiting for it all to change, though. I've heard 2 weeks is the turn around time! Roy's mom and sister are coming to get her this afternoon to take her to Charleston for the weekend for the ASU game, so it will just be me, Roy and and Roy Austin this weekend. My mom is leaving this afternoon to go home. She's been a great help this past week and it will be sad to see her leave. Thanks, Mom, for all you did for us this past week! So, I've already learned a lot these past 7 days...

1. Motherhood the second time around is different. With the first, you can be lazy in your pajamas and take it easy all day in your house. This time, I have to get up, get dressed, get out and about. It forces you to go on with life and it's kind of nice. Thank you, Lord, that Caroline still takes a 3 hour nap. I have been taking a nap during that time, too:)

2. Whoever said that boys were easier to change than girls was lying! I would prefer to change a girl diaper over a boy's any day. And no, he still hasn't pee'd on me yet! Oh, and Kim...Roy has changed ONE diaper and he did not like it.

3. We have done more laundry with him then we did with Caroline! He wets through his clothes all the time and we go through many outfits each day. He's getting better, though. I learned to point "it" downwards! Actually, that little hint was given to me by my smart husband.

4. I love my Medela breast pump! Thanks, Suzanne, for making me order it! I wish I'd had it with Caroline.

5. Getting up in the middle of the night isn't that bad. Plus it's such a sweet time to bond with the baby. And all those feeling I had before he came about feeling sad about never having it be just the three of us are all gone. I am SO happy that we have him and that he's part of our family. He is the sweetest, calmest thing and I am in love with him!!

Here are some pictures of Roy and Caroline feeding him his first bottle last night. Caroline felt so big and it made her so happy. Roy stopped her half way through to burp him and she got so upset! She thought she couldn't feed him anymore and cried:(

Check out that hand technique!

Roy finally let her burp him with her assistance!

She really does a good job feeding/burping him!

FTC! Donna - what a great post! RA is such a cute baby boy! Caroline is being a good little helper! Seems like you got this second time around mom thing down pat. Keep up the good work!

This made me feel at ease that you are doing so well with TWO---hopefully that means I'll be able to handle my ONE whenever he decides to make his appearance. We've been trying what you, Denise and Hannah recommended and he's not budging! He must be really laidback and comfy in there.

Poor Amy. You're a trooper. I couldn't even think about "that" in the last days. I was so miserable.

Don't let Donna fool you. Enjoy your rest now b/c I didn't know what hit me w/ the first. It took a good 2-3 weeks to get my emotions together. IF that happens to you, don't freak out and think you're crazy cuz you are DEFINITELY not alone. Maybe w/ the second you know at least a little more of what to expect and you understand that it's only temporary...or at least that's what I hear. On the other hand, it could be a TOTAL breeze like our sweet Don Don w/ Carol also. If so, PRAISE THE LORD! To God be the glory...to God be the glory! :)

Donna I'm proud of you. You're making the second look easy as pie. Can't wait to see you in a few. Love, Hannie

P.S. Those pictures are PRICELESS and I'm proud of Roy Austin Sr.

Hannah! You are so funny:)

Seriously, Amy. The first one is harder, I think. I was so emotional that first week and I cried A LOT! It's a whole new experience and don't feel alone because EVERYONE has gone through it. The second one is a little easier because at least you know what to expect. Keep trying that technique we talked about..it will work:)

That's sweet Donna. Caroline is going to grow up to be a great mommy because of all the training she's getting with her little brother. Those pictures are really sweet. I'm glad you're in love with your little boy. The girls said you would be.

Oh no....that scares me a little! But, it's better to be prepared for my crazy emotions than to think I'm nuts. I just don't want my inlaws to be in town for the height of my emotional trama!

I'm glad you all are doing so well. THe pictures are so precious. Caroline seems to have really taken to Roy Austin great. Having 2 children just keeps getting better and better!

Great post! I will testify that the first one IS the hardest. After that you just go down hill. The only up hill having to get up and get dressed and take care of other little ones, compared to just taking your time and sleeping with the first.

Anyway, Donna, I still think that boy diapers are easier! There is no place for the #2's to get stuck on boys. Sorry to be so blunt.

The pictures are SO cute. Will are coming to see him in 2 weeks. Is that okay?

Oh good! I didn't think y'all were coming by Charlotte. I can't wait to see you all! And, yes, there are places for #2's to get stuck!

i hope having one is as easy for me as having two has been for you! It sounds like RA is completing your family even more and everyone is adjusting well. Is that BP an automatic? I'm assuming Medela is is the brand, I'll have to take a look for it when I'm visiting my fam for Thanksgiving in a couple of weeks. That second pic of Caroline feeding Roy Austin is too cute..she's concentrating so hard!

Holli,
Medela is the brand and it is an electric pump. So worth it! It is so easy to use and clean. I think it's a must for any mom! They come in all sorts of sizes and models. I'm sure they're all good.
