Weekend Project

Much to Roy's dismay, I believe my nesting instinct has kicked in. I got the idea to go ahead and do a weekend project--paint the living room! Well, we would have gotten an early start to our endeavor, but the Graham family did not wake up until 12 o'clock on Saturday. Yes, you read that right...NOON! We must have been seriously jet-lagged. So, basically our first half of Saturday was gone before we knew it.

Anyway, we painted the living room and I couldn't stop just there. Our living room walls run into the foyer which runs into the upstairs hallway, so this task is a major one. I went ahead and started to paint the foyer on Sunday and this week, it's me and the upstairs hallway! I love getting stuff like this finished, and we're just getting started (cue The Carpenter's "We've Only Just Begun"). My "to do list" before Roy Austin arrives is getting long, but it is do-able. I just need a willing husband. Yesterday his big job was to hang a fan in the living room, which he HATES doing. Any time we've ever hung a fan in our homes, it's ended up with him mad because a screw won't go in, or the wires won't stay in the fan casing. Anyway, last night was no exception and I had to hide my face to laugh quietly when he was straddling the ladder, trying to twist the fan into the right screw grooves and calling it 'stupid' under his breath. It was very amusing. But I've learned when I want him to do a job around the house for me, I have to be very complimenting of his work and a cheerleader as he does a job...almost like a mom is to a child!

We also went to Home Depot to get some blinds for our living room so the Arbogasts's next door can't see too much into our lives at night. But guess what? HD doesn't sell the blinds we use anymore. We have to special order a new brand now and they are a lot more expensive! Roy said that's what we get for being cheap-skates and waiting to buy them.

So although it was a short weekend, it was productful. I do love the new color of our home. It's so much more cozy and inviting. Thanks Dolly and Leland for letting us copy your color! Now sit back and enjoy some befores and afters...

Before: just plain, drab ivory walls. Nothing inviting about this room, especially since there is a chihuahua sitting on the floor who will growl at you if you even think about entering...

After: Ooooh....Ahhhhhh. The walls are now an inviting Greenbrier Beige. Can't you just feel the warmth and the beckoning of this room to come sit? And look at that fan! Whoever hung that thing up knew what he was doing!
This picture is just to show what a job Roy has in store for him. It's our foyer and I painted as high as I could. The rest is unfortunately up to him to figure out how to get up there.

LOL...Our foyer looks the EXACT same way. I've "heard" a master plan to get up there but haven't quite seen that plan in action JUST yet.

BLIND tip...we got all of ours from www.justblinds.com. You put in your measurements; the inches that you want the slats to be, which kind of wood (or faux wood) you prefer and VOILA...checkout. We have been pleased and they are VERY reasonable (the shipping is free). I highly recommend. I am actually getting ready to order some more for our foyer window and the study that Max just finished working on.

Looks great Donna! Good job and I can't wait to see it in person. I'm helping mom with repainting some of their house and maybe we should use this color somewhere. Be careful on those tall ladders!

Good job Donna. That is how our foyer looked in Altanta. It was that way for months---until I was about 7 months pregnant with Harry Jack and I decided to paint it myself. I don't think our foyer was as high as yours. You may just find yourself doing it one day while Roy is at work.
