Let's Head Home!

We are home! After a LONG, tiring 24 hours flying from Port Alsworth to Soldotna, Alaska, driving 3 hours to Anchorage, being in an airport with a 2 year old who wanted to walk all by herself, but at her leisure (10 feet behind us), carrying a sad, whimpering chihuahua in a small pet carrier, going through 2 security checkpoints where they wouldn't let me bring in a sippy cup with literally less than 1/3 cup of WATER, and 2 flights consisting of about 8 hours, we are home!!! I reminded Roy as we ate dinner at the airport to just expect a rough night and to know it was going to happen. It was rough all right, but at least Caroline and Roy got in a little sleep. Our flight was PACKED and we had an angry mother two rows behind us yelling at her baby for half of the flight. And I don't know what the deal is with flights cutting back on expenses, but the beverage service was not good at all! They didn't serve beverages until about 1 1/2 hours into the flight! We were so dehydrated that Roy and I downed a water bottle each and a small cup of coke and then we were wondering when seconds would take place!! I had to get up and go to the bathroom and walk about every hour to reduce swelling (which really didn't work). Let's just hope that my ankles are normal again tomorrow morning.
Caroline was so keyed up she wouldn't fall asleep for the first two hours and spent that time reading books, taking the flight magazines in and out of the seat pocket, playing with her princess dolls, you name it. Finally she fell asleep....and so did Roy. I just kept focusing on our hot shower at home, clean clothes and a bed.
We walked into our garage a little over 24 hours from the time we woke up in Alaska the previous day. Caroline had been asking for Chik-fil-A while we were in AK, so we made sure we made a quick stop. When we were approaching the city, she looked out the plane window and said "Caroline's house....where are you? Chik-fil-A? Where are you?" so we made it to the drive-thru before breakfast was finished being served. Yum!

Getting ready to enter the Anchorage airport. Is she an experienced traveler or what? See this cute, pink outfit she has on? By the time we got to Charlotte, it had black dirt all over it and she was filthy. I stripped her and bathed her immediately!

Finally! She fell asleep only to take up her seat and mine! I sat on the front half of
my seat for the last 1-2 hours to give her more leg room. I know, I know...I'm such a good mom! Oh yeah, and that's Roy in the background getting his 4 hours of sleep, to which he woke up looking at me and saying "wow, I'm exhausted". Isn't he sweet.

My two sleepers. Maybe I took so many sleeping pictures because I
was feeling a little envious?

Yeah! Don Don's home and you have an update! I was beginning to worry.

Poor Don, Don. I'm about to break down in tears reading this update. I seriously have the "lock in"/sleepover/"been up all night studying for a test"/"I want my mommy!" feeling after reading this one. I can only see your face as you pulled into your driveway. Did you kiss the ground when you got out of the car? You are ONE trooper!

I'm glad the Grahams made it back in one piece and are still a family. Let me know when you've gotten your ducks in a row b/c we can't wait to see you! Welcome home!Love, Hannie

I'm glad you had such a good time. I loved reading the updates this morning and seeing your pictures. Sounds like caroline was a good girl too! I'm sure it's good to be home too.
By the way...Caroline looks like she's gotten bigger just since she was here in Lynchburg. All that Alaska fresh air must have done her some good.

Those bears looked so cool; i can't believe you were allowed to get so close to them! that must have been exhilerating and frightening all at the same time! I'm really glad you got to go on your Alaskan trip afterall, and without all the driving! I totally feel Caroline's need for Chick F La, i crave it so much sometimes...but I never get any up here..so sad...

That was funny Donna. It is funny, (and irritating) when the husband wakes up and says that he is still so exhausted! Our sweet husbands have no idea what we mommy's are doing during the night while they are sound asleep.

I am glad that you all are home. Just relax for a few days.....more.
