Homemade Silly Putty!

I heard a friend talk about homemade silly putty recently at a playdate and I put it on my mental "to do" list for summer.  Today was the day and I can't believe how easy this stuff was to make.  My kids thought it was pretty cool, too!

Mix 1/4 cup school glue with 1/4 cup of water.  Add a few drops of food coloring of your choice.  In another bowl, mix 1 Tbsp Borax with 1/8 cup of water, until it dissolves.  Add the Borax mixture to the glue mixture and mix until it forms into a ball. If it's too "liquidy", add 1 tsp Borax.

This literally whips up in less than 5 minutes and it keeps it's shape.  Just store it in a air tight ziploc bag.  Fun!

P.S.  We discovered a HILARIOUS---especially to a 5 and 8 year old---way to play with this.  Place putty in a child size plastic cup and press it down to the bottom.  The sound that takes place is the sound of "passing gass":)  There were plenty of giggles in my kitchen---including me:)
