Today was the first day of school for this sweet boy:

He has been so excited for weeks for this day to arrive, but it almost had a bad beginning. We normally do a first day of school breakfast at Chick-fil-a. Well, with the DNC in town this week, I had no way of knowing what traffic would be like this morning. I just knew it would be bumper to bumper the whole way to school to drop Caroline off. So, I told him on Saturday that we probably wouldn't be able to do a breakfast, but we would have a special dinner instead. I thought I gave him enough warning. I thought he knew our game plan. Nope. This morning, he woke up so happy. He hopped out of bed with a smile and told me he was ready to go to his first day of school breakfast at CFA. Oh boy. I reminded him of our plan and the tears started. Not the whiny, bratty ones. The true broken hearted, disappointed, crocodile sized ones. Oh, I felt terrible. It didn't help that he sat on the couch so sadly with his blankie. When I asked him if he wanted Raisin Bran, again the tears started and he would just say, "
I want to go to Chick-fil-a." After a while of sitting, he realized I was serious, unfortunately, and ate his cereal. Long story short, traffic was a breeze this morning...I made it to school in 10 minutes (record time). Go figure. And it didn't help that he pointed this out to me. Poor RoyBoy:( We could have easily had our CFA breakfast, and I felt like a bad, bad Mommy.
Here he is with his teachers, Miss Shirley, Miss Lisa and Miss Amy. Yes, he has three teachers! They are so sweet and I am THRILLED that he got into this class!
He walked right in, found his seat and got to work.
When we got into the car at pickup time, he told me the best part of his day was having his
OWN pencil box with
HIS name on it:) This was big for him!
So instead of breakfast at Chick-fil-a, we had dinner. Oh, wow, do I love this boy. He is such a friendly little guy. He makes friends wherever we go, which makes us laugh. Caroline said when they were playing in the play area, he went up to a boy and said, "
Hi. My name is Roy Austin Graham, Jr.!"
Oh, and another thing. I forgot about the first day of school cake, but he reminded me! Yesterday, he informed me that he wanted a cake with a smiley face and a train on it. So, today we decorated a cute little cake together. When we got home from CFA, we got our baths and then he came and told me that the cake fell on the floor. Hmmmmm. He looked at me with a straight face and said, "
I just looked at it and it fell." Hmmmmm.
So, after picking it off the floor and having it all smeared, of course we still ate it:) It was a good end to a day that I thought would be crazy, but actually was very enjoyable.

He just looked at it and it fell, huh? Pretty good story, RA! I'm so glad he loved his first day of school, and he looks so proud and happy. Good post, Donna. You are a wonderful momma, and I'm proud of you.
Aw man sorry that cake had to fall after such a sweet day. Still looks edible in my book! See you next week RoyAustin!
