Do it...do it!

Lately we have been enforcing "first time obedience" with our sweet Roy Boy like crazy. This boy loves to push buttons, do things his way, and test the limits. And something else he loves to do? Encourage others to disobey and do things that will make others mad. We often hear (in a whispered voice) "Do it! Do it!" and, although funny, it can be really annoying, too.

Another annoyance lately around this house: potty talk is back!! Will we ever get out of this stage? The sad thing is, it's more with Caroline now. I often hear, "poop!" or "pee pee!" and then lots of giggling. At night when we put the kids to bed, they will yell back and forth potty words. Again, funny....but reaaaalllllly annoying. So this morning, I had had it. We were loading up the car for school and sweet Caroline, who is almost six, said "Ooo! I like to poop in my pants!" (said while shaking her bottom)which was followed by hilarious giggling. I had just buckled RoyBoy up and I looked at her and said, "I'll be right back. I need to go get a diaper.". When I got back in the car, I told her that I'd give it to her teachers just in case she had a poopy accident today...since she likes to poop in her pants and all. She looked horrified and begged me not to. Instantly, Roy Austin said his encouraging phrase "do it, Mommy, do it!" and Caroline promised never to say bad words again (yeah right). So as I drove to school, I wondered if I was being too mean making her sweat it out in the back seat. Then I figured that I needed to teach her a lesson. She was an angel on the way to school, too. So we walked to her class, me holding the diaper, her asking me if I was going to tell, and RoyBoy encouraging me. She ran to her class and looked back at me with a smile and a look like "please don't do it!". She came back to give me a kiss, while I pretended to be looking for her teacher, and smiling. I finally told her that I wasn't going to leave the diaper, but she needed to clean up her words. Lesson learned.

As we walked away, RoyBoy still begged me to give the diaper to her teachers. Hmmm....what kind of lesson can I teach him about positive encouragement?

Okay I am LAUGHING! Way to think fast Donna! And RA staying DO IT! Love it!

You know it is funny, every once in a while we will be riding in the truck and Margaux will say, "Mommy, Caroline always says Poopoo!"I just snicker to myself and explain to her that sometimes children think words like that are funny.

Didn't you and Dolly have a problem with saying words like that--oh and remember "booger on the table?"

Like Denise, I laughed all the way through this post!! I can just see the kids saying those things and then giggling about it. And yes, you and Dolly did the same things when you were little, too. I guess there's something about saying "bad" words that makes them feel like they're getting away with something that they KNOW they shouldn't be doing. And your quick thinking about taking a diaper to Caroline's teacher was great!!! I wish I could have known what was running through her little mind on the way to school. Hang in there, Donna....this is part of raising those kiddies!!! Love it!!

When that boy gets all grown up you are going to be able to write a wonderful book......about raising him!

I am laughing so hard at this. And like everyone else I am impressed with your quick thinking on the diaper trick. Good one.

Too funny about Roy Boy saying "do it". FUNNY! I just love boys and how thier little brains work.

With all the boys in our family "potty talk" is a normal occourance and we almost think nothing of it anymore. Just hope it stops one day.

I thought I commented on this already but realized I haven't. RA makes me laugh and yes, I do remember talking "potty talk" when we were little. Mom is right...it's like we were getting away with saying "bad words" without really getting into trouble. Funny! So funny that you were going to give Caroline's teacher a diaper. Now that's funny!
