Today is my niece, Maddie's, birthday. This isn't just any birthday. This is the day she becomes a teenager! WOW.
Maddie was the first grandchild born into our family and you would have thought we won the lottery when she was born. To say we were thrilled is not the right word! I was hooked--line and sinker-- from the moment I found out she was forming in her mommy's belly, and when I first saw her red, screaming face, I was head over heels in love.
So, because I can't be there to help celebrate the big day, here are 13 reasons why I love sweet Maddie Girl. Maddie:

1. I love that you made me an Auntie.
2. I love how happy you have always been and still are. You have such a pretty smile:)
3. I love how kind you are to everyone you meet. You are never embarrassed to meet a stranger or talk to anybody (well, maybe at McAlister's Deli on New Year's Eve!!).
4. I love how excited you've always been to see me. (I can still see a 2 year old Maddie standing outside Grammy's house ringing the doorbell, looking through the window and when she spots me coming to the door, she goes crazy!!).
5. I love how cool you are. If I was 13, I would totally want to be your BFF.
6. I love how you helped prepare me to be a mommy. I loved babysitting and taking care of you when you were little. It was a true joy:)
7. I love that when we get together, you always want to bake cookies with me!
8. I love how thankful you are. You are always so quick to say "thank you". You are a very appreciative person, and this is a great characteristic to have in life. Keep it up!
9. I love that you love to eat candy! Any time I see candy, I think of you (and your siblings)!!
10. I love that you always want to come visit us in Charlotte. You are welcome here any time and I am glad that you think we are fun to visit!
11. I love what a good help you are to your mom. You are great at it! You also help me out so much with my kids when you come to visit. Your cousins LOVE you and they think you hung the moon:)
12. I love the young lady you have become. And I love that you talk to me about your life! PLEASE keep this up!!!!
13. I love all the memories that flood my mind with you in them. We've shared some fun times and there are only more to be had!
So, even though I have my own children now, you still hold a special place in my heart. You were the cutest toddler, the most obnoxious 7 year old, and now you've grown into such a beautiful young lady--inside and out. Happy Birthday, teenager! I love you!

Lots of fun memories that's for sure. I can't believe she's officially a teenager now. Man! Happy Birthday Maddie girl! I hope today is perfect for you. We all love you so much!
