What We Like

So, one of the first questions asked when someone is pregnant is "how are you feeling?". I am so happy to say that I feel GREAT! Out of all of my pregnancies, this one is the best first-trimester by far! With the first two, I was exhausted all the time, queasy, nauseous, laid on the couch all day long... With this one, I feel fantastic. Every once in a while, I've had a few waves of nausea hit me and I've had to breathe deep. And in the beginning, I was a little tired and laid down here and there, but other than that, I constantly forget I'm pregnant and I feel normal. Thank you Jesus, because I was nervous about how I'd do with the third one and having no family to help in Charlotte for morning sickness time (and chasing RA around). But I've been able to cook each night and do everything I normally do. I do have to say, though, that Roy has been a trooper. I have had no desire to clean the house and I've had to literally force myself to do it! I feel like our house is constantly a mess and the laundry is an even bigger fiasco. He has been very sweet and hasn't complained about this once--especially when he realizes at 6:15 that his underwear drawer is empty and he has to go empty the clean clothes out of the laundry basket in the hallway that has been sitting there for 3 days. Oops:)

As far as cravings go, the old wives tale must be true because I am having daily cravings for these guys:

Oh, yes. I crave the yummy, cold, salty taste of a good dill pickle. The other night I opened the refrigerator door and opened the pickle jar and just stood there and smelled the yummy liquid. My mouth started salivating. In fact, I'm salivating right now thinking about it. My doctor told me at my last appointment that they make dill pickle potato chips! Roy has already bought me a bag, but I have so far refrained. (Speaking of my doctor: the night we found out we were pregnant, I told Roy that I was excited of course because of the baby but also that I get to see my doctor on a regular basis again! I love her and I look forward to each appointment:) She has delivered both Caroline and RoyBoy, so I am glad she will deliver this one, too). Okay, back to food.....

I'm also in love with turkey sandwiches!! I've discovered my favorite and it's at Panera--the Bacon Turkey Bravo and it is a gift. Oh wow. I find myself craving this masterpiece weekly:

Something about turkey sandwiches (with a good, juicy tomato) or just turkey deli meat rolled with cheese is so appealing to me. Actually, a wonderful treat for me is--don't get grossed out--to get a dill pickle spear and wrap it in turkey meat. YUM!

Forget the desserts and candy. I'll take pickles and turkey sandwiches any day. Oh, and pair it with this and we're good to go:

I could sip this stuff all day long.

What makes me sick? Coffee. Everything about it. The thought of it, the smell, coffee creamer commercials. When I walk into a Harris Teeter or Target and smell the Starbucks' in there, ughhh. It makes me want to throw up. Just seeing the Starbucks logo on a building makes me have to turn away. This is ironic, because last fall I became ADDICTED to coffee and had to drink it each morning. In January, I gave it up cold turkey (oooooh, turkey) and haven't had a cup since and I don't see myself ever having one again.

So, that's basically what I love to eat lately. We've even had a few nights where I make turkey sandwiches for dinner:) I'm just glad that these cravings are somewhat healthy. With Caroline, I craved Velveeta Shells and french toast/pancakes and gave in to those cravings a little too often. I need to round up some pictures of that pregnancy. Yikes!

I'm with you on the coffee thing--that happened to me with both Jane and Margaux. No worries--the love for Starbucks will come back!

Okay, embarrassing-below are my past cravings and the child they went with:

1. Ginger Ale w/ Crangrape juice & Subway Club=Maddie.

2. Coke Icee & Rootbeer floats, & chocolate milk shakes=Danny

3. BK Whopper's and Golden Corral(NASTY!!!)= Harry Jack

4. Sonic Burger's and Grilled Cheese=Margaux

5. Peanut butter with Ritz!!!!!!=Jane

Very Embarrassing---With Margaux, I would PLAN MY DAY around a lunch or dinner drive by to SONIC and then WULF (sp??)it down in my truck. Is that pathetic or what.

Denise! I'm not laughing at the Sonic thing, I'm laughing at the BK WHOPPERS and GOLDEN CORRAL!!! HAHAHAHAHAH! Now that is funny! I'm with you on planning the day around food. When Caroline is at school, sometimes I'll plan my errands around a stop at Panera for lunch.

I craved Chick-fil-a chicken nuggets with RoyBoy. I failed to mention the Fruity Pebbles with Caroline, too. That pregnancy and food was a disaster that DID happen.

I am sitting in the doctor waiting to get Adsem circumcised and this was the perfect distraction! I am reading it to Max shaking w/ laughter!!! You're trippin me out.

Ginger ale- you HAVE to try Verner's Ginger Ale!!! It got me through the 1st trimester and is the bomb dot com! It is in cans at HT at the very end of the drink aisle at the opposite end of the bottles. Trust me- it's worth every penny!

I craved turkey w/ big juicy tomatoes too!!!

Enjoy your dr while you can. That 6 week postpartum check up feels like a break up! Bittersweet, I tell ya. It's fun to have the babies here but sad when the excitement leading up to it is over.

PS max can commiserate w/ Roy on the clean clothes in the hamper! Putting them in their respective places sure is a challenge these days!

You ladies crack me up! Denise, Golden Corral?!?!? Corey would love to have you around! We use to have to eat there after every fb game. Glad to say we haven't been there in 3 yrs!

Donna, at least the Fruity Pebbles cravings haven't come yet!

I'm laughing at you Denise! SO FUNNY! It's funny that you remember all that too! And it's so funny how you get attached to seeing your dr too. I kind of got sad when I had my last dr's apt. I told Dr. Phem "so when will I come again?" (Embarrasing) and he said "Well, I'll leave that to you" with a big smile on his face.
Donna, your cravings are all somewhat healthy so far. I went through an intsy weesny stage of craving Cracker Barrel's mac and cheese, green beans, mashed potatoes and biscuits smothered in butter and honey. hahaha! It only lasted a month.

Donna, I have been out of town since Thursday a.m. on a family getaway to TN and didn't have internet access. I am so excited for you! I am shaking right now :)

HPS, Roy is a BIG Vernors fan. That is his favorite ginger ale. It is strong, but it's good. I just sent him to HT to pick some up:)

I know what you mean about parting ways with the doctor after that postpartum check-up. It's so sad and depressing. At least I have months to go!

Caroline, thanks! Your dream was true and I hated lying to you but I had to. Actually, you and another friend dreamed I was pregnant! Strange!

Donna you are hilare! Those are really healthy cravings though. Tell me you haven't drunk the pickle juice! My dad used to drink it and said it was full of potassium. I always craved sugary cereal at night. It didn't really matter what kind as long as it was SWEET! Lucky Charms was my fave.

Denise! Tell me you you had all that written down somewhere. If you pulled it from memory, I'm impressed! BTW - you know I throw down a whopper ANY DAY preggers or not. :)

You girls all crack me up. This was a funny post!!!!! Denise, I am just envisioning you conversing with the elderly at the food bar at GC as they asked you questions about your due date as the waitress with yellow fingernails refilled your sweet iced tea. ha!

I craved FRENCH FRIES with Preston. I always liked them but could take or leave them prior to pregnancy. To this day, I can eat my weight in fries. With Parker, it was anything sweet. I was a raving lunatic rummaging through my kitchen to find a chocolate chip anywhere. I was terrible with the sweets. With Olivia, I don't remember anything standing out to me. I more remember what gagged me with her.

Again, so happy that you're feeling so great! I wondered how it was to chase around a 2 year old while prego. But it sounds like a jar of pickles and a slab of turkey keeps you going. BTW, when you smell the pickle juice does it give you a feeling of your throat tickling? Does that make sense? Anyway, just reading what you wrote about pickles made my mouth start tickling. Weird I know.

Yes Denise, how do you remember all of that? So funny! I can relate to going to Sonic all the time during pregnancy. I wonder what percentage of their customers are pregnant? I bet a lot!

Yes, the coffee taste does come back. I'm an addict but didn't drink it for months when I was pregnant and I was so sad. It was like losing my best friend every morning.

Ok, love the pregnancy posts so keep them coming, ok? Better me than you! :)

Oh, and why am I the only one who does not miss going to the doctor? Actually, maybe it't just the scale in the doctor's office I don't miss.

I am so glad you are feeling great! You really NEED to when you have 2 other kids at home!

I STILL LOVE seeing MY sweet doctor at my annual appointments (don't like the appointments though!)

I was an Oreo girl myself...

I am so excited to follow another bloggy-girl through another pregnancy! I will be praying for you!

So jealous about your healthy cravings! With both of mine I had a complete aversion to meat, cheese & most vegetables. I craved carbs! Any carbs. Muffins, pastries, chips & salsa. It was bad. Really, really bad.
