Remember that scene in Mommie Dearest where Tina refuses to eat her steak and Joan Crawford, her crazy mom, makes her sit at the table staring at it until bedtime and then she serves it to her again at breakfast the next day? Well, just call me Mommie Dearest:

Last night I made a family favorite: Jennifer Clardy's Chicken Pot Pie! We love this and I make it at least once a month. Roy Boy decided he did not want to take one single bite. After shoving it in his mouth and having it spit out and tears being poured down a "sweet" little face, Roy told me to serve him another helping for breakfast today.

Poor thing, I was watching a video with him and my hand was on his belly and I felt his tummy grumble. I know he's hungry but we refuse to lose this battle. I don't know what's going to happen but there better be at least 2 bites of Chicken Pot Pie eaten before anything else goes in his mouth. And for those of you who think I really am being a psycho Mommie Dearest....my go-to genius (James Dobson) smiles upon this approach:)
So this morning, Roy Austin met a little bowl of Chicken Pot Pie at the breakfast table, where more tears were shed and more refusing took place. So what did I do? I gave him nothing to eat but a cup of chocolate milk and for lunch....more Chicken Pot Pie and more of this:

Oh, how I know this scene ALLLL to well. Were you at my house for dinner last night? You go, girl. That might be even harder core than John Rosemond but once RA2 caves, you'll be golden.
AP all of a sudden started going this with things I know she LOVES. It was getting old so we had to lay the hammer down and would put her straight to bed if she didn't eat or complained about eating. FINALLLY...we JUST had a breakthrough like 4 nights ago...hungry to bed she went at 6:30 and since the next morning, my picky eater is even branching out and trying new things (knock on wood).
I've tried to do it, but just can't make myself serve dinner for breakfast! I'll be interested to see if it works though. Poor both of you!
Man! Is RA crazy? That Chicken Pot Pie is the best! I love that stuff. Can't wait to hear the update on when he caves too. I remember as a little girl sitting in the dining room with all the lights out and all by myself in front of my bowl of broccoli cheese soup. I hated the smell and had to eat it. Now I love the stuff! What was I thinking? Kids, kids!
You just made me feel better about that lonely little plastic wrap covered plate that appears in my fridge from time to time when my girl refuses to eat. Coincidentally, she also turns up her nose at really good pot pie! I haven't given it for breakfast - yet - but I just might try that. I'll be watching for an update on this one...
CLAP, CLAP, CLAP! Keep it up Donna - you are doing the right thing.
Personally, I think chicken pot pie tastes even better on the second day.
He ended up eating 4 big bites of it this afternoon. I finally held him down on the floor, pushed a bite in (which he ended up kind of liking) and then gave him 1 M&M. Then I made him take another and gave him another M&M. It was a bribe, but it worked and we were both happy:) Tonight, he willingly ate dinner!!!
Been there- done that Ugh! Anna had a bad deal with carrots one time..oh my gracious! Scott decided he was going to win that battle...and he did (but he was exhausted!) She had another episode (of 10...NO LIE...10 trips to the bathroom at camp for a spanking for not saying good morning to her grandma after Grandma said it first!!) Phew...
Hang in there!! We all relate!
*as for your previous post..sick! I was kind hoping to scroll down to see the picture of the open door!! Hee hee!!
Good for you. I wish I would have done this with Adam when he was little because he has now turned into a picky eater. A few months ago we tried this with him (probably a little too late in life) and it did not go well. He ended up throwing up all night and home sick for 2 days. I am sure it was totally unrelated to forcing him to eat, but he was probably feeling a little sick at dinner and didnt want to eat and we forced him too. I felt so guilty. now everytime we try to force him to eat something he will remind us of the last time and say "do you want me to throw up again?" Ahhhhh! Things will be different with Colton!
More power to you Donna! We've all been there. I'm proud of you!
Good job, Donna. Parenting becomes so much easier when your kids know you mean business. He will learn the lesson but never rememebr the two days of tears! You guys are doing a great job.
And I love the "I won't eat this!" followed by a "that wasn't so bad."
PRICELESS!!!!! I am rolling laughing. You did good. I am going to use this idea on my finicky little eater.
i love that james Dobson. Brody had a wad of meat in his mouth for almost two hours and he finally swallowed it. Would not let him spit it out or he would get a spankin. Mommy dearest too!
