2. Roy Austin fell down our brick garage steps backwards after losing his balance playing peek-a-boo with me. I felt awful! At first I didn't see any damage, but the next day his nose was all scratched up and his forehead was bruised and had a big scab on it. Then he skidded (is that a word?) across some hard dirt at the park and opened up the wounds, causing them to bleed! He screamed that time. Bless his heart! He is definitely all boy. It looks like he got into a fight in an alley somewhere:
3. Thursday, we met our friends Miss Caroline and her boys Liam and Aaron at another local park. We had never been to Squirrel Lake Park, but we will definitely go back! We had a great time and the weather was perfect:
-It really upsets me when people try to get me to go down on my prices to where they pay NOTHING for a nice item. Example: I had 2 bedside lamps for $10. I think I paid about $50 for both when I first got them. Because it was late in the sale, I told the interested buyer I'd take $8 for them. "Would you take five?" was her response. HUH? I told her no, and I was paid the $8--still a bargain!
-I LOVE when buyers pick up an item to buy and just bring you the cash for the price listed on the price tag. Thank you!
-I love seeing Liberty people come up to the sale in a LU hat or T-shirt. It's an instant fun and friendly conversation with someone over interesting topics like DeMoss Hall, how much the campus and dress code have changed, etc!
-Charlotte has many Indian, Oriental and Hispanic residents (just like any other large city). I snicker to myself every time one shows up to our sale and they ask Roy how much something is or have a question about a certain item. He instantly starts talking slow and pronounces each word really clearly for the person---whether they have a hard time speaking English or not. (example: "How much?" Roy: "Five Dollar. Very good quality".) Roy speaking broken English = very funny:)
Speaking of, this boy really gets into yard sales. He loves them!
And this time we had a booth for Caroline to run. She sold cookies and drinks for her "Vacation Fund" and racked up $27.50. Who wouldn't buy baked goods from a sweet little girl? (Carmel Baptist People---don't worry....she gave the majority of it to Jesus this morning!! Note: Our church is doing a Yard Sale challenge):
Yikes, I chose to take a picture of him and his goods at the wrong moment. Apparently, the ribs were ready to come out of the smoker RIGHT THEN and I was taking a picture. No time for smiles, Donna.

This is a great post, D! I got 2 BIG chuckles:
1. "It looks like he got into a fight in an alley somewhere." Bless his sweet face.
2. Roy speaking broken English. HILar!
BBQ looks yum as always. Making me hungry! Go Roy and Charles! Also, YEAH for Caroline for making her own moolah (and of course, giving some to Jesus). Teachin' em young, teachin' em young. :)
PS- I just read Max the part about Roy+broken English. His shoulders are shaking, he's laughing so hard. :)
RA is even cuter with his new tough guy look!
Good for Carloine and her business venture! (Anna sold honey last year and raked in over $300...Shae was ticked!)
The smoker....hilarious! What is it with men and those things??? My husband LOVES when it is "grillin" night at camp (and there is always a large gathering of men around the BBQ with him!!)
Looks like a great weekend!
As far as the broken English...we have a "Mien" group that comes to camp (they are a group of people originally fron Thailand) Scott talks the same way to them!!! I love sitting in the office next to his when he meets with them! Hahaha
Now, when Roy talks broken English does he start talking really loudly too? I do that when I get a pedicure and it always makes me laugh when I realize what I'm doing. I think Roy and Don are alike. Don becomes Mr. Used Car Salesman at garage sales...it's hilarious because it's so not his normal personality!
Poor RA...he is always getting into something lately. He does look rough - poor little guy.
Sweet Caroline...way to teach her some good work ethics at an early age. Now, did she tithe based on net or gross?
Great post Donna!
I started laughing at the broken English! So funny. Why we do that? We silly Americans!
Good recap Donna, good recap!
Also, maybe Roy should haul that thing to the beach next month! MmmMmm

"No time for smiles Donna!" Now that's funny. I can hear him saying that. Great post. I too laughed several times throughout. I love seeing Roy and Charles bonding over bbq. You could start calling them, "Roy Charles...as in Ray Charles." hahahah!
Sweet Caroline at the yard sale....I would have bought every drink and especially baked good from her in a heartbeat!
What a great recap. The part about Roy speaking in broken English made me laugh out loud. LOVE the idea of Caroline's vacation money stand!
I attended a memorial service at Smith Mountain Lake on Saturday night so stayed overnight in Forest with Vangie. I hadn't been to Lynchburg for 6.5 years (before moving to AZ)....can't believe all the changes - WOW!
Again, another great weekend update!!! This was a belly-laugher for sure!!!
I rolled at Roy and the broken English. I bet a UNC professor with ten doctorates who just happened to be Oriental and was out garage-saleing left thinking, "What in the world is wrong with that man....doesn't he know how to speak English". HA!
Jennifer, I laughed at the gross/net tithe comment. HILARIOUS!!!!
Now, poor RA...that boy is going to keep you on your knees, isn't he? I can't get over how OLD he looks. He looks like he should be 3.
Dolly, don't show Leland (LeRoy) the pictures of Roy and the neighbor. Don't want any jealousy. Just assure him that LeRoy is still going strong.
thats funny about the broken English. and why do we yell when we speak to people that have an accent. I guess we think they can understand us if we speak really really loud. toooo funny!
Oh my, I wish I could watch Roy being the Early Bird for the Yard Sale, and having to deal and bargain with people. Also wish I could have come to your YS, I bet you guys had some good stuff.
And remember those family members up in OH and bring that smoker here, we can't get anything close to good BBQ up here!
That picture of Roy Austin made me smile and sad all at the same time! So glad he's ok - those pictures are priceless though. Good for you doing the yard sale - way to go Caroline! That's a huge amount of money! So sweet.
I am laughing so hard about Roy speaking to foreigners at the yard sale! I think I probably do the same thing!
Poor little RA - at lease he is so stinking cute that bumps and bruises don't make a difference. :)
I am lol about RG and broken English. Wish I could have seen it! :)
Good post Donna! I was laughing @ your last comment about Roy because Joshua gets INTENSE about his grilling too. I don't understand. ;) ha But I am with you...at least WE get to benefit from their hobby! Poor Roy Austin...his little face looks aweful...you can tell he's ALL boy! What a cutie pie!
