A Few of My Faves

Here are some new favorites in our house. First up, these babies:

They are SO good! I bought them a few months ago because I had a $2.00 coupon for a box. WOW! They are perfect for a 3:00 snack (especially with a cup of coffee). They're the perfect size and they're like eating a candy bar with only about 100 calories. They tastes just like S'Mores dipped in chocolate!! I was at Target last week and saw 3 boxes on the clearance endcap for $1.48. I snatched up all three:) Put it this way, I look forward to 3:00 most afternoons.

Next, Snapea Crips:
Yummy in my kids' tummies is all I can say about these. I bought these at Trader Joe's but I know Earth Fare sells them, too. They are baked peas and they are delicious. Even Roy likes to munch on them. They're cheap, healthy and a good alternative to chips.
Speaking of Trader Joe's, my friend Jessica highly recommended the Mandarin Chicken from TJ's. Roy is a major Chinese food fan--especially for Pei Wei, so I bought a bag and we are now big fans. This dish tastes like it came from Pei Wei (for you non-Charlottians, Pei Wei is owned by PF Chang's and it's a fast food version) and it is very, very good. We had a dinner guest a few weeks ago when I "made" this and he was very impressed at my international culinary skills. I thanked him and didn't tell him otherwise.

And last but not least, here is a new favorite of mine. First of all, one of my pet peeves is when houses have all of their blinds shut. I think it looks so harsh, cold and just un-inviting. It also makes me think that slobs live inside with dishes piled in their sink and coke cans all over the place with a cat or two wandering around. It makes me want to ring the doorbell of the house, barge in and open all the blinds to let the sunlight in friendly-up the place! Well, a few weeks ago we had a major heat wave hit the Queen City and the front of our house was so hot, so I closed the blinds in every room in the front of our house and.....yep. Our house has been so comfortable for weeks! I haven't had to adjust the thermostat once. In fact, I get a little chilly sometimes. So, although our house may look a little uninviting from the outside and you may wonder if stinky slobs live inside, our energy bill will be a little kinder this summer, hopefully. Try it!

I totally agree about the blind situation! I love to have a bright house with all of the blinds open and think it is very inviting . . . however, I have started keeping most of mine closed with the summer heat too!

Good post, Donna. I'll have to try the south beach smore bars. We love the orange chicken here too. When I buy it at TJ's I also buy vegetable fried rice and the egg rolls and it makes for an easy meal that can go from freezer to table in no time. And it's so good!

Yeah, you got me hooked on those Smores bars too! They really are good but I can't always find them at our grocery store. I'll have to go to Target and stock up!

I'm gonna have to try those smore things. I am a fan of ANYTHING smore!

You are like that Glade girl on TV that dosen't like to tell her friends she has Glade products in her house to make her house smell good. You know the comercial where is smells like she just make a pie or cookies but it is really a candle????

And, I am SO with you on the blinds curtains thing. I learned that quick down here in FL as our power bill in the summer is around $400 a month. It does look trashy and uninviting but it also saves moolah. It makes you look forward to those nice Fall days!

Donna, we too love the Trader Joe's Mandarin Chicken! We like to have Texas Creme style corn with it also found in the frozen section of TJ's. Good to know about the snap peas snack - we will try it - probably going there tonight to buy coffee and some other things.

Hey - try the sea salt and pepper rice crisps from TJ's. They are AWESOME. I eat them with a little hummus. They taste like potato chips, but MUCH healthier. My other TJ favorite is the fire roasted vegetable in balsamic butter sauce. YUM!!! They are in the frozen vegetable section and go great as a side with any entree.

I've been wanting to check out the TJ's in our area and now I'm definitely heading there soon!
Thanks, Donna baby! (I'm gonna be trying out some new nicknames on you. Bear with me.)

Pudding paint is s super fun idea. I've done it with whipped cream before too.
Love your imagery on what you thought houses with closed blinds must be like! Jason is our blind closer and I am the blind opener.
