Flashback Friday, Birthday Style!

Twenty-three years ago today, Roy's little sister, Cissie, was born. I'm sure many of you have wondered about her name. Her real name is Jane Austin, named after her mom and grandmother, but when she was a baby, her three older brothers called her Cissie and so, it stuck! I think it fits her perfectly, because it's a unique, special name and she is definitely unique and special:)

Cissie was a surprise baby, or better yet a true blessing from God! When she was born she had three older and adoring brothers just waiting to hold and take care of her. Roy was 9 when she was born and vividly remembers everything about that time. He always has talked so positively about her and how he loved taking care of her. She has a special place in his heart and he'll still say to me sometimes, "Man, I can't believe my little sister is married!".

(By the way, check out how good Jane looks just days after having a baby! Woohoo! Panty hose and everything!)

When I first met Cissie, I was a nervous wreck. Roy and I had been dating for about 2 months and he talked about her a lot. Being the youngest of the family, I know how important it is to win the youngest member of the family over when you want to make a good impression:) So, it was Easter Sunday and the Graham family was coming into town to drop Roy off after Easter break. From what Roy had said, I knew Cissie was very fashion conscious, so I had Dolly come help me pick out the "perfect" outfit and off I went to meet the family. In all honesty, I was more nervous to meet Cissie than Jane and Franklin! So there we were, meeting for the first time and then going off for a quick dinner. She didn't say much to me that night (she had just turned 14, so she was too cool for school), but she did say she liked my shoes, so I knew that I was off to a good start.

Cissie, you are a very special person to all of us. You bring lots of laughs, funny outlooks, insight, completion-- and style--to the family. You have already accomplished and experienced so many wonderful things in your young life and we cannot wait to see what else God has in store for you! We hope this year brings you much happiness. We love you!

Cool post Donna! Way to flash back to Roy's family!

Jane looks INCREDIBLE! What did our moms do back then to look so good after giving birth. Mom and Mrs. Graham-----and Dolly must have eaten only veggies during their preg's!

The boys look so cute! It is hard to tell Will and Roy apart in that first picture.

How sweet to get a baby girl so many years after the boys! God always knows best!

What a sweet post Donna. I'm sure Cissie will feel very special and honored once she reads this. How in the world do you have pictures of when Cissie was born? Do you sneak pictures out of the Graham's photo albums too? hahahaha!

Happy Birthday Cissie! It's always fun to get together and sit around talking about things with you. You're a lot of fun and I hope you have a special bday this year!

PS. Jane DOES look great! I can't imagine wearing PANTY HOSE days after giving birth. hahaha! What a true lady.

Oh me again..I forgot, I was nervous to meet you, and I am sure I had no style as I went through the frizzy hair and braces stage at 14. I was always looking at you and Dolly for style tips!

Happy Birthday, Cissie!! That was a really nice post, Donna. Funny how you were so apprehensive about meeting Cissie, and having her accept you. I'm so glad she approved of your shoes!!! Good sign!

I love those pictures of Roy. That's what little RB will look like in several years. He'll be just like his daddy.

Again, have a wonderful birthday, Cissie. You ARE a very special lady!

Sweet post Donna. It brought tears to my eyes. The boys were so wonderful with Cissie and they took better care of her than I did. The first night she was home she started that funny little cry babies do...that panicky cry like they are dying and mad. It was 2:30a.m. and I slowly walked in her room. I turned around and all 3 boys were standing there telling me to do something. They couldn't stand to hear her cry. They adored her. It was a wonderful time. I put the panty hose on to hold in the loose skin! Donna didn't steal the pictures..I have given the boys some of the pictures so they could enjoy them and remember. Hopefully they won't remember the mistakes I made just the good memories!! I am sure they remember both and hopefully won't make the same mistakes I made. By the way....I ate no fat, no sugar and low carbs with Cissie because I was diabetic while pregnant. I weigh 20 lbs. more now than when I delivered her. Need to go back on that diet!!!! Ding...

Well I'm glad my MIL has my back. Contrary to what y'all might think, I don't steal pics out of the photo albums when I visit Boone. These pics were in Roy's baby box that Jane gave me when we got married. So there!

Jane, you were a great mom! Seriously, to have 3 BOYS all in a row and have your sanity left, is a great accomplishment. Roy always has the best stories from his childhood and from the way he talks, you were a cool, fun mom:)
And I just noticed the slip showing when Cissie mentioned it. I tell you what....Slips AND panty hose! You were raised right!

Oh, and Denise....PLEASE call her Jane. Forget all of this "Mrs. Graham" talk.

Amen Donna......please call me Jane. I didn't know I was having a girl. I could have known but I didn't want too. It's like knowing what you get for Christmas. I thought I was having another boy. Had a family named picked out but the LORD surprised me. The day before I had Cissie they did an amniocentesis (sp?) to make sure her lungs were developed because they were going to induce the next day but she came on her on. One more thing...She was born under the covers and I didn't even know I had her. I had a terrible time with Edward so they gave me an epidural(wonderful) with Cissie. They didn't check me for 3 hours and when the new shift nurse came in she pulled back the covers to check and there she was. Scared everyone to death but she was perfect. Never cried for a couple of days. Poor doctor he was furious with the nurses and the hospital put a new rule in. You have to be checked every 30 minutes with an epidural. Yeh for Cissie!!! She has brought me nothing but sheer joy....

Happy Birthday Cissie.
Man, I thought i enjoyed reading your post, Donna, then I read the comments!! Has Jane written a book?! I laughed, I was touched, I was encouraged. She seems like a wonderful woman! You are so blessed... A wonderful mother and a wonderful mother-in-law.
I'm going to go get me some pantyhose to hold in that saggy skin!

Oh my goodness, I can't believe Cissie was born under the sheets! Can you imagine lifting up the sheets and seeing a baby? She was a quiet little thing, wasn't she? :) And I'm still in awe over the panty hose and slip...but you're right, it can hold saggy skin up and those pretty large underwear the hospital gives you too!

Happy Birthday Cissie! You probably don't know half of us but we sure know a lot about you now!

And I'm laughing Donna that you were nervous about what a 14 year old would think of you...that is so funny! After seeing my picture from around that age, would you have been intimidated by me?

Sweet, sweet, sweet. You are ALL blessed to have each other.

Are you kidding we all wore "biggy" underwear and it worked great on your head when you forgot the hair cap that went over you extra large hair rollers!!!! Clean underwear that is! Jennifer, the hospital never gave me underwear to use...nasty nasty. I glad they didn't. Ya'll crack me up...

What a sweet post and what VERY interesting comments.

This post is HILARIOUS!!!! It has gone from wonderful things being said about Cissie to hospital underwear. Funny!

Jane, it is a shame that you didn't have hospital underwear. I LOVED the mesh undies they give you right after having a baby. SO COMFORTABLE on that post-baby belly. (Do they sell them in 6-packs?)

I welled up reading this post b/c I have two boys ages 12 and 14 and had my little surprise girl in May of 2007. They WORSHIP their little sister. I never dreamed they would be so doting over her. How did Cissie not end up spoiled rotten b/c I am having that issue with my boys spoiling her too much and giving her anything she wants.

BTW - Happy Birthday, Cissie! I hope you have a very special day. I'm sure we will all be lurking on your blog to read about how your day went. (Speaking of which, do you want strangers to comment on your blog or will you think we are loonies? I have been guilty of lurking on o'l Cissie and Corey) Ha!

OK, Jane is cracking me up. Her discription of everything is hysterical and I love the slip and panty hose! The realtionship between Cissy and her big brothers seems so sweet. I loved hearing the stories behind everything Donna. Keep the flashbacks coming!

I am also in awe that Cissy just slid right out under the sheets and no one knew!!! PLEASE JESUS let this happen to me!

Happy Birthday Cissy...even though you have no idea who I am! :)
