Snow!

Wednesday afternoon Roy called me and said we should pack up and go to Boone for the night because they were expecting lots of snow. We had been talking about taking the kids up there to let them see real snow and go sledding for a while. This was our chance, so I dropped everything and hurried around the house trying to gather "snow gear" for us, which is a joke because we don't have any! So we stopped at Wal-Mart for me to look for some hats and gloves. I bought what was left and we headed up the mountain. When we arrived at Roy's parent's house, it was snowing like crazy and it was a balmy 8 degrees outside!! It was so nice to wake up to a winter wonderland. We bundled the children up as best we could and went out for some serious family snow fun. Cissie and Corey were in town, too, so Cissie served as our official photographer:

The sledding started out innocent and sweet:

Then it started to get rough:

Roy Austin and I wiped out on one sled trip and that was it for him:) He didn't know what happened!

And here is the picture that started the melt down...Isn't that sweet? Daddy and Caroline walking up the big hill to go down together:

Wait? Where's Caroline? Oh....all the snow is being blown into her sweet face.

Just imagine lots of crying, a very cold face and snot running out of her nose. It was actually funny:
Next up, Mommy and Daddy:

We really did have a fun morning together:

Oh, and here is a funny picture. Nana is a great french-braider so I had her do Caroline's hair after our sledding. Caroline was trying SO hard not to cry. Although it looks like it, she isn't crying in this picture. She is wincing and making faces, but not crying:

The after shot (with an Oreo for being so good):

Thanks for letting us come visit last minute, Jane and Franklin! We had such a fun time and made some good memories! Thanks for lending me all of your warm snow gear. And thank you, Cissie, for taking the pictures!

Awwww, nice post. Glad you got to go have some fun! And cool that you got to be with lots of family on a snow day. C and C are experiencing many seasonal temperatures on their travels. They are getting the best of both worlds.

Thanks for sharing. What great photos. I got a little scared in the one with all the snow and I couldn't see Caroline, but glad to know she made it okay. Oreo's make anything seem a bit better and what a sweet reward for sitting through the hair braiding.

These are the moments that will be cherished in your heart and mind many years from now!

wow! What a fun time it looks like you had. I haven't been sledding in years and told Leland that next time it snows really good here, we HAVE to go! Still waiting for a good snow though.

Caroline is getting SO BIG!! That french braid makes her look like such a big girl. I bet she felt pretty after her hair was all done.

We had a similar experience last year when we decided to go up to camp for a weekend when there were no campers...started out fun, then Lindsay got cold and that was it!! She and I ended up inside watching Clifford and eating raisin toast!

I love all the pictures! It does look like fun (but once again, we mothers with the pictures in our head of the experience not matching the reality!!)

You are great parents for giving them these "fun" memories!

LOVE the picture of Caroline...looks like she has gray hair! Poor thing...tell Roy to not go so fast next time-doesn't that sled have brakes? :)

Fun times!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! How fun and wonderful! Just finish painting the picture for me and tell me that Paw-Paw was sitting on the front porch with a big mug of hot chocolate chuckling while he watched all of you. (BIG SIGH)
