We met Lou, the kangaroo, first. He is 6 months old and so cute. Just like "Roo" on Winnie the Pooh. He was so soft and almost looked a little "rabbit-ish":
Caroline didn't know what to think of Lou. She was a little taken back by all the animals (there was a camel, donkey and some sheep in the tent next to the trailer). She kept telling us she wanted to see the monkey. Well, she saw him.
The animal lady brought out "Parker" next. When we first saw him we thought he was so cute! His face was tiny and he had on a baby's diaper! I reached out my hand to touch his and the next thing you know, he's on my shoulder:
This little guy is heavier than he looks! And that tail is CREEPY! It was wrapped around my neck and kept tightening like a snake. Okay, here's where it gets funny. Parker went back to his trainer and Roy wanted to touch his hand. He said "Hi, Parker!" and reached out and Parker went nuts and hissed and swatted at him! Roy and I decided that the sound was a mixture of screeching tires and a crazy, hissing cat. I can still hear it and I'm shaking as I type this. I was holding Caroline and she started screaming, so I took her over to the side as I glanced back and saw Roy Austin and Roy laughing. I was, too, because it was so shocking, but funny! So, after Parker was disciplined, we went back and were asking questions about him and the other animals. Well, once again, 'ol Parker came over to me and sat on my arm. I was holding Roy Austin at this time, so I had two babies in my arms. What happened next is a blur, but again, I'm shaking as I type. Out of NOWHERE, Parker makes that hissing sound and yanked my hair up pulling my head with it! I didn't have time to get scared because the trainer pulled him over to her so quickly! Roy and I were laughing so hard--again out of shock-- and Caroline was screaming:
The trainer was so embarrassed, but Roy and I assured her that we thought it was funny! The rest of the night, Roy and I would just break out laughing and we'd instantly know why the other was laughing. I guess you had to be there:)
So, on to the Library. It is beautiful. If you live locally, you need to go. The lights alone are worth seeing. Click here to read more about it. Here are some pictures from the rest of the night:
This last picture makes me laugh! This was around 8:30 at night. The kids were exhausted, it was cold and rainy, we had been waiting in the carriage line for about 45 minutes and it was finally our turn. Roy Austin (our photo loving boy) is smiling even through his tired state. And Roy looks so stressed as he juggles both kids! I love it:

That is hilarious! I am shaking too like Gramma Reber!! So funny. I can just hear the monkey now and imagine your face as you watched Roy. Plus the kids crying...how funny! Too bad you didn't have a video. Grayson would say you could turn it into some $$ on AFV. The library looks great. I wish we had some time this weekend to fit it into our schedule. I'm sure the kids would love it too. Just don't visit the monkeys again!!
That is the funniest thing I have ever seen. I am glad you survived your visit. Can't wait to see it.
The BGEA did look beautiful. I thousands get to see it. I think the word will spread that it is the place to visit THIS CHRISTMAS.....I want to go back and visit. Loved seeing the kids and they are so cute....loved seeing you too! Merry Christmas....HO HO HO
I left out the word "hope".....I hope thousands get to see it...
That is funny! I can hear the monkey now! I was beginning to think it liked the ladies and not men, but sounds like he was burned both ways!
I am shaking myself. HILARious. That would've been a winner for America's Funniest Home Videos!
Poor Carol. Her new phobia for life might be monkies just like Roy helped make mine mice. She's officially been scarred. LOL. BTW, hope monkey didn't get fleas on the cape and I love your expression in the 2nd monkey pic.
BTW, how do you know if your Amish Friendship yeasty beasty is thriving or dying? Is it normal for it to have a bunch of bubbles after the 6th day additions?
Hannah, mine has bubbles in it, too. I think it's supposed to. I'm making mine on Sunday afternoon and we are having breakfast for dinner.
I hope that Parker didn't get fleas on me. My hands REAKED after I was holding him. I washed/scrubbed them. ANd after he yanked my hair, I had a bad headache.
Hannah, you are the funniest commenter ever. The things you think of. BTW - I LOVE the Amish friendship bread and you will get LOTS of bubbles. I could eat the entire loaf when it is cooked. ENJOY!
Donna, I am laughing at the monkey incident. That is hilarious! You Grahams need to have a talk with someone b/c that is blasphemous for a mean monkey to be on the grounds of BGEA terrorizing small children and adults. HA!
That is so funny, Donna! And poor little Caroline's face...she looked scared to death. ha Glad you guys had a good time. I hate I missed all the fun by just a couple of weeks! :(
How funny! I'm not sure what's funnier, Roy's face with the kids, the monkey noises, or the fact that you're scared you might have fleas!!! HA! HA! HA! Memories in the making. By the way, way to go on getting the Christmas cards out so quickly! I'm impressed. They are absolutely adorable too.
Oh my gosh!! My stomach hurts from laughing!
I hope Caroline doesn't have night terrors about monkeys! I can just imagine you and Roy looking at each other and laughing all over again!HaHaHaHaHaHa!!! It REALLY is too bad you didn't get a video!
The library looks so nice!!
And...I LOVE Amish Friendship Bread! Wish someone here would give ME a starter!!
I forgot to say that in the last picture it looks like Roy is thinking "put the camera away and help me with these kids!!!"
I know that "put the camera away look" very well!!
Great post! I was laughing as I read it. I can almost picture that monkey doing the hissing thing. We were at the library today during the day - but need to go back at night. Norah was scared to touch the animals, but that was the most beautiful camel and donkey I had ever seen! :) Fun.
Great Post! And I love the title! Looks like a really fun time. Caroline is going to the Teddy Bear Tea tomorrow for her friend's birthday.
They are visiting the petting zoo prior to the tea - I guess I should warn her to stay away from the monkeys.
Nancy! My Caroline is going to the tea, too! I'll see you there maybe?
great post, donna!
i can just picture you sitting there shaking as you blog!
(it's weird to see a comment page without dolly somewhere near the top...i guess babies really do change things!)
Donna, that post has me shaking. I really do like monkeys, but to look at them from afar at zoos etc. If he started making noises at me I would have internally freaked.
The photographs are a lovely visual of the library. We didn't make it there this week, but hope to next week.
Donna - My Caroline is going with the birthday party group - We have 18 people coming to dinner tonight for a party for David's business. I wish I could be there, but the time 1-5 pm didn't work with the party preparations here.
Do you know Erin Butler? It's her daughter Brooke's party.
This looks great! What a wonderful outreach to the Charlotte area at Christmastime. We still need to visit the library. Can't wait to see it in person!
