Thanksgiving 2008

On Thanksgiving morning, we drove to Asheville, NC for the annual Graham Family Thanksgiving 2008. The crowd was smaller than normal this year, but we still had a great time visiting with family and eating good food. We were so happy to find out the Wilson family (Jane's sister and family) was there, too!Roy's cousin, Carrie Delle, was a great help with this guy! He has become a fan of the yeast roll.

Caroline was just thankful to be sitting at the kids table with her big girl cousins. She was all smiles and loved following them around.

Like I said, she LOVED following them around. Check out the sheer joy on her face! "GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS!"

Roy Austin got to enjoy some quality guy time with Gramps and Daddy Bill.

The entire dinner party. We enjoyed sitting around the fire and sharing what we were thankful for. Afterwards, we drove back to Boone to spend the night with Roy's parents.
The next day, Caroline and Nana made some Christmas cookies in their pajamas!

Later that afternoon, we went out to get our tree. It was fun looking through the fields trying to find the perfect tree. We finally found it and it was cut down for us:

Cissie and Corey drove down from Cincinnati on Friday night. I tell you what, that Cissie is becoming a serious homemaker. When she arrived, she walked in with a sweet potato casserole, a fudge pie and her latest hobby: Friendship Bread.

Every Friday after Thanksgiving, Roy's mom makes a big Thanksgiving dinner for our immediate family. It was another GREAT meal! After we ate, we hopped in the car and headed on back to Charlotte.

Saturday we put up and decorated our Christmas tree. I love doing this! We watched a Little House on the Prairie Christmas episode and the classic "Dolly Video". I think I have the entire video memorized:
Even little Roy Austin, who hates watching TV, was captivated by it. So was big Roy.

Here is Caroline's technique of putting ornaments on a branch. The more the ornaments, the merrier:

She had so much fun looking at each ornament and I had fun explaining the sentimental significance of a lot of them:

The finished product:

Another great holiday recap, Donna!!! Good job!!! It looks like you had a great weekend with lots of family bonding time. I love the pictures at the top of your blog. I love that big stone fireplace. I have always wondered how far away Boone is from Charlotte.

I LOVE the picture at the top of your blog. That is priceless!
Sounds like you had a fun thanksgiving in Boone. I know you must be glad to have your Christmas decorations up. I really wish that we had a VCR the other day when Caroline brought the Dolly video over. I would have loved to see that!

Yep we had a great time....but I think I am buying new pajamas. I didn't know I was going to make the blog page in my pajamas. Not flattering one bit but we did have fun having the Charlotte Grahams home for a night. Actually Donna gave me those pajamas for Christmas a few years ago. You are a good sport Donna putting up with all of us. Love you

First of all, I'm glad you got time in for the "Dolly video" That's important. I can quote the whole movie too. Wait until Michael gets to watch it.

Great Thanksgiving recap. Your tree looks great! I love your mantle too. It's officially the countdown until Christmas.

What is the "Dolly Video?" I am so curious! :) Beautiful tree!

Where can I buy an original copy of the Dolly Video? I would love for my kids to watch that one day!

Hope you taking care of your bread! And I love Kirk Nowery in our immediate family picture.

I know Cissie. He's like the focal point, too!! Cissie, I'll see if I can snag you a copy of the DV. It's .99 so it shouldn't set me back too much. Better yet, I'll see who drew your name for Christmas and have them get it for you.

Kristie, the Dolly Video is "Kids Sing Christmas". It's a kids video that Dolly was in. Dolly, the way we talk this thing up, you are like the guy in "Along Came Polly" who had 15 minutes of fame on a movie when he was little and he talks about it all the time! LOL!

Jane--You look great in that pic...pj's and all!

Great recap and pictures! Your tree is so pretty and love to see that you're wearing your cape again! Alright, the Friendship Bread is amazing! You probably don't remember but I did a post about it months ago. No one tried it, but now that's it on your blog, it will most likely become a hit! ha!

Is Paul in the Kids sing Christmas video? He did several of those. We don't have a copy, but Herb keeps saying he's gonna send us one.

Herb! Now that's a funny name to remember. Angela, Paul wasn't in the video but I think his voice was in the music that we lip sank to. I guess our voices weren't good enough? Angela, also, I realized that Donna and I DO have the same tree topper. Donna did you get yours at Ikea?

Donna said...

no, my topper came from Target our first year of marriage (2001). It's so cute and it's cracked at top, but I won't get rid of it because it was on our first tree.

Angela, I thought of you when Cissie gave me the friendship bread. I'm excited to make it!
