Yesterday we celebrated Roy Austin's first birthday! I am not really a big birthday-party-thrower for my children, but because I did a birthday party for Caroline's first birthday, I had to be fair and do one for Roy Austin! This is the last big party he'll have. Like Caroline, from now on it's just him, his parents and sister (and whatever other family members can come) to his birthdays! Because Halloween is just around the corner, I thought I'd make it a Birthday Party/Fall Fest. I already had his puppy dog costume so I planned the party around a dog theme.

Caroline was so excited about this party. Although she knew it was RoyBoy's birthday, I think she thought the party was for her! She is being Dorothy for Halloween this year...

Her cousins from Virginia came down for the party and they surprised her by dressing as the Scarecrow, TinMan and Lion from "
The Wizard of Oz". Let's just say when she saw them, she screamed!!

The birthday boy had to be woken up from his nap for his big shin-dig so he was a little out of it. Here he is with his grandparents. I think Daddy was trying to slip him some candy corn.

My neighbors were kind enough to let us use their jumpcastle, which was the real hit of the party. Caroline was in this thing for the majority of the party.

Sweet little Kathryn the Cowgirl couldn't decide if she wanted to brave the jumpcastle or not:

Roy made a Pumpkin Patch Ball Toss cutout for the party (you can see part of it in the picture of Caroline above). My nephew, Juette, had a good time practicing his pitching skills. Woo! Look at that arm!
I had a table set up to make "Pupkins" (A pumpkin decorated like a pup) and one to decorate Halloween masks. There was also a table to make caramel apples.

Here is Dayna and Janna coloring their mask. Good, job, Dayna. Concentrate. Stay in the lines. Artistic abilities must deep run in this family...

...here is Grayson with her "pupkin":

Caroline's little friend, Anna Kate, and her parents came to the party. Any guesses who she was dressed as?:

That's right! Emily Elizabeth Howard!! Kristin, this was such a great idea! (and by the way, Kristin, made the costume!!). I may have to borrow this idea for Halloween 2009!

Savannah was a precious little ladybug and Jack was a fearless firefighter:

Cole came dressed as himself. His mom forgot it was a dress up party (we'll blame it on the pregnancy, Laura!)

This little guy wasn't dressed up, either-- and his momma is not pregnant. Sara, the dragon, is walking in the background, too:)

Roy Austin was very anxious for his first taste of cake. Little Norah was hoping someone would take him out of that car so she could hop on for a ride!
Look who else showed up at the party:

The "Scholle Shoutout" with JesseRuth and the cutest little Piglet I've ever seen!

"I'm still waiting for this sugar I've been hearing so much about for a year."
Speaking of sugar, here is the cake for the guests. It was a 3-tiered dalmation spot cake. When Caroline saw me frosting it in the kitchen, she said "Mommy! I like your cow cake!". Leave it to a child to tell you how something looks!

Finally! It was cake time, but forget blowing out the candle. Roy Austin opted to put the flame out by pinching his thumb and pointer finger together:)

He was also more interested in the balloon, but the second he tasted the icing--with the help of his sister-- he quickly forgot about it.

Easy, big guy.
Here is a video of Roy Austin demolishing the remainder of his cake. Notice "Dorothy" in the clip. She played hard yesterday, that's all I can say.
Here is the after shot:

Jane gets the "Mother-in-law of the Year" award for hosing it down for me! There was icing everywhere and in every crevice of that chair!

And she helped me clean up the birthday boy, too. No, your eyes are not deceiving you. He really did wear tights with his costume.

Here is my brother-in-law, Juette, who
hates getting his picture taken. Gotcha, big guy. Don't worry, Graham Central Station is private.
After a change of clothes, Roy Austin did a little swinging with Miss Ashleigh. He had time to think and reflect on his first year of life...

What's a party without a favor? Roy Austin gave each family a jar of his cookie mix:

"
Ol Roy's Sugar Biscuits" complete with a complimentary dog bone cookie cutter. Like I told the guests, I cannot guarantee the taste of these biscuits. They could very well end up tasting like the real thing!
We decided to open the presents after the party to give the guests optimal play time! Like I said, Caroline thought the party was for her and she loved opening her--I mean her brother's--presents:

She even read the fine print to make sure the toys were safe for her brother's enjoyment. Wow, she really played hard. Check out her hair! Nana said that by the looks of it, the tornado finally hit Dorothy:)

With all of the trucks, boats, tractors and other toys Roy Austin got, all he cared about was his balloon:

I think I do like big birthday bashes, after all. This morning, Roy Austin woke up at 8:30 and Caroline wandered down the stairs around 9:00! Thank you to everyone who came to the party. It was a fun afternoon! By the way, if anyone is missing some black sunglasses and a blue sippy cup, I have them!
Special shoutout to Dawn E. Reber and Hannah P. Scholle for copies of photos!

Oh, wow! What a fabulous party! Love all of your thoughtful details. The kiddos looked adorable in their costumes. Happy Birthday, Roy Austin!
It was a pupfect day! :O) And RA will look back on this one day and see all the special touches you pur into it Donna. He is just the sweetest little guy ever! Way to carry the theme through everything!
LOL...both sunglasses and Sippy cups would be ours and that would be after coming back in TWICE to get things we remembered we had forgotten. We are a mess.
I will post mine now but wanted to let you have the honors first since it was your partAY and all.
You outdid yourself, Donnie and worked those fingers to the bone. We had a blast so I hope it makes your carpel tunnel worth it.
Love you!
Man, Donna! That looks like some party!!! GREAT JOB. :) I love the pics of RA eating his cake. ha He's so cute and Caroline makes the PERFECT Dorothy too!
I still can't believe all you did to make this party so perfect. I don't know how you do it all and think of everything. I loved the cake, the favors, the food, the stations, all great ideas! I'm sure you're glad it's over in a way.
Great job! I'll have to get you to help me plan Michael's bday this time next year.
It was a great time Donna. We are glad that we could be a part of the celebration. Thank you for all the work you did both for RA and all of your guests. You really outdid yourself!! Love the pics.
Great party, great post, great pictures. Thanks for having us there - we enjoyed it all. Such a good mommy you are to do all you did! Happy Birthday RA!
WoW! I just made Corey read the blog along with me and he is complaining its the longest blog in his life! Haha
I loved it! Wish we could be there. And you sure do show all of us up. When I have kids I am hiring you to throw their parties.
i remember Caroline eating her first cake! No looking back!
Okay, Woof Woof (LOVE) the cake! Woof Woof (love) the picture of big Juette trying to get out of the cameras lens! You have to know Juette to know how funny that one is.
Donna sweetie, you did a fabulous job! It looked like a real Fall fair or something like that. I am so happy that the day turned out great for you! Wish we Logan's could have been there. Maybe next year???????
love the cake. adorable. and the party favors...how cute are they? BTW, my children are going to be Dorothy, the Lion, and the Scarecrow for Halloween. And I think I've even convinced my husband to be the Tin-Man !?! Dorothy is just a classic. Don't you agree?
Looks like so much fun! One major bummer about being on the West Coast is missing out on these fun events. Donna I wish I had you out here to help me plan and decorate our company fall party!!! I made your bags with the tea lights:)
WOW girl! That was some party. So cute, loved it all. The cake was so cute. That pic of Caroline's hair cracked me up...
You MADE that cake??? Girl has some skills!
Your pictures of Roy Austin are so cute. He has the cutest little button nose! :) What a great party for a little boy. Happy Birthday Austin!
Just kidding... ROY Austin! That's funny the lady at the store called him by his middle name. People call my kids all different things, but the only one that really gets me is when people call Wesley...J-W. His name is John Wesley. I think J-W sounds so country. But oh well.
Great party! Your little puppy and Dorothy were precious! The cake was awesome..and the favors, darling!
How cute was the Emily Elizabeth idea!!
Great Job, Donna! Now, go scrapbook that party!!
What fabulous photographs. You really should plan parties. The favors look amazing as well as the cake. What a wonderful celebration of Roy's first year of life. Well done!
Great job DOnna! Again I call you Martha!
Donna, Donna, Donna...you are one creative gal! I love the whole puppy dog theme, great idea. Of course, the pictures of RA eating the cake are always my favorite...how was his diaper later that evening???
FINALLY, a picture of Dayna's husband! Seriously, I wondered if he really existed...maybe she just had a donor for those cute kids of hers?? But, it's true...she's married to a living, breathing man. :)
Great job, Donna!!!!
GREAT PARTY!! What a cute puppy RA was too. I love the cake/favors and cute details. It's so fun that all the kids were able to wear their costumes and get more use out of them too. Samuel's puppy party will be inside--I'm getting nervous b/c I don't know where they will all go!
Happy 1st Birthday, Roy Austin!
Wow-I am impressed!! I especially love the treats you gave out. Great party idea!! And of course RA and Caroline look absolutely adorable!
Well, Emily Elizabeth had a GREAT time! She hasn't stopped talking about it. If you really go the EE and Clifford route next year, I'll make you a great deal on some slightly used stripey tights. Also, I just saw a toddler Clifford costume recently. It was a perfect party!
I was so excited to see these! Beautiful photos. What was Norah? Ballerina? Her and Sarah would have had similar costumes.
You are a terrific mom, Donna! Who could ask for a better 1st birthday/fall bash! How fun! and beautiful weather!
You are mom of the YEAR! What a great party and I cant believe Roy made the ball toss. What a good dad! I am so happy to hear that you dont do big parties for your kids every year. I thought I was the only one out there. Adam had his first real party this past year when he turned 6. Poor deprived child. No video games...no parties...he is going to hate us when he grow up. :) Too much pressure...too much pressure! I like the family parties.
The cake and party favors are TOO CUTE! You really outdid yourself!
Nikki, we were raised with just family parties. They are more intimate and special I think. This past year for C's bday, it was just us and it was so much fun! Plus, I don't like them getting all of those gifts. I almost said "no gifts, please" on the invite, but I didn't want to be like Joan Crawford in "Mommie Dearest"! Denise, did you get that?!
Woweeeee --- that was one thought out party, Donna --KUDO's to you!! And Roy Austin is t-h-e most adorable little dog EVER! Caroline and her cousins pic could be a playbill for the Wizard of Oz show --the costumes are GREAT! And....the favors you sent home, well, what can I say that hasn't already been said.....YOU are amazing!!
Donna, I am IMPRESSED!!! You are quite the little party thrower....party theme, homemade cake, party favors, craft stations, bounce house....the list just goes on and on. GOOD JOB!!!!
RA looked adorable in his costume. All the other kids were just precious too. You have some creative friends. Even haggard little Caroline with her wild hair was precious. I still remember her coming down the stairs so sheepishly at Dolly's shower in that costume. She was so cute.
I'm glad there is really a Juette. I have begun to wonder about him as well. I'm glad to know that he really does exist and hasn't abandoned Dayna to raise the kids alone. Ha!
Now, Jennifer...did Max get an invite to this party? HMMMM???? My kids didn't get invited either. I thought our friendship had moved to a deeper level but I guess I was mistaken. We are still "those blog girls". LOL~
Did you ever get your birthday banner???
YES! It came about 2 days before the party. It's so cute! Thanks for the recommendation:)
Cute, cute, cute! Donna, you are such a fun, creative and beautiful momma!!
I love how Carol's hair changed from the beginning of the party to the end!
